I know FE will never have PBEM, but it is probably one of the only reasons I like the Civs. Nobody I know has time to sit down for hours of gaming but everyone I know does have time to squeak out one turn or two a week. I am sure these games aren't aimed at 18-25 year olds that have plenty of time on their hands. I would guess, rather, that they are aimed at people who have full time jobs, families, and maybe 1 hour or less a night with which to "play." PBEM solves that.

Dominions 3 handles combat nicely and how you arrange your forces matters. I don't think the game loses much of anything by me not being able to directly control my units. I wish I could arrange how my units start combat FE, by god! Why do pioneers start IN FRONT of the much more powerful units????

They already said they won't leave "details" to fan input, just broad strokes. Besides, i would argue FE is better than WoM precisely because of more fan input, not less. I would also rather have fan input as opposed to a production studio deciding what gets put into a game.

You didn't offend and I didn't mean to offend you. What happens when people (myself included) bring up "good 'ol MoM" is that the thread gets taken over by pro- and anti- MoMers and we lose all discussion of anything relevant.

HF that indeed looks like a rip from Dominions 3 but seeing as they are both Illwinter games... perhaps it's like saying units in WoM look like units in FE?
He misses the mark. It isn't restrictions that matter at all. As Neo says in the second Matrix movie "The problem is Choice". It is meaningful choices that matter and make the game better. To make the choice meaningful, the act of choosing must place restrictions upon the player. This is why Shooters on rails or any type of "railroading" has a negative connotation in gaming. Restricting a player is a bad thing except when

Bugs, Comments, Suggestions... - The Ophidian Shirt in the custom sov creation screen has no icon, model, nor description - The Doom Hammer and Monk's Staff in the custom sov creation screen cost 0 pts and therefore there is no reason not to take them over standard weapons - The Diplomat's Guard uses the War Staff and when counterattacking frequently freezes tactical combat and forces an auto resolve. 18 months out, they have already started pre-production and now they have dev tools from Obsidian. I think it's a realistic time table.

I have, thus far, backed for $100 Wasteland 2, for $50 The Banner Saga, and for $30 Shadowrun Returns. By the way, Wasteland 2 hit over $2.1m which means they get the tools from Obsidian and Chris Avellone. I think a closed borders treaty should be default and your only option is to declare war. Lots of strat games handle it this way. Having to click "leave my terr" every turn does get tiresome and then I declare war on them just to slaughter all of their pioneers... *edit* declare war to cross the border in addition to open borders, peace, etc...

Don't forget that you could always build every single building in an 1 tile city, like in the civs... its just reduces clutter. I am for either or, as long as cities become specialized.
More so, wanting to simplify games to the lowest common denominator isn't the path to a good game. Also note that popular does not equal good.
Pop music anyone?
