Enough to annouce I was a 'fake' Spartan when I clearly never proclaimed to be anything other than myself and my opinion. Why attempt to discredit me with the term fake?
It seems to me that if a game were made in the style of Rousseau, that I would think it's beautiful and attractive, and you wo
The only think I could label as "cute" in the current screenshots is the city, but I get the feeling that it is only because the graphics are not finalized are that details are missing.
Argghhh a fellow Anti-Cutish ;) Believe me, the candy floss image is closer to the truth.. I agree though, in the cold light of day the dev's will hopefully tweak the in-game graphics in the right direction. &
No one argued that it doesn't look cartoony (or if they did they need glasses, badly).

I wouldn't call the current art "cute and cartoony" at all,
I've explain before what I class as cute (candy floss trees etc) and as you can see people did dispute my cartoon reference! Compare the pink trees with this image of Candy floss.
Personally and in order... The Bible of Fantasy has to be: 1: Lord of the Rings Then: 2: Malazan Book of the Fallen Followed by 3: RiftWar Saga
Not to step on Spartans toes I've changed my Username. I've used Spartan on other forums but I have no real attachment to it.
This creates a really defined set of shading values that give in-game assets a very cartoony look.
Just a small post for those that bulked and argued against my reference to a cartoony style, even the artists admit this is what they are trying to achieve. ;)
What did Terry Prachett say about the use of multiple exclamation marks? Never got into Prachetts work after the 'Colour of Magic'. As for being oppressed, no not really... merely highlighting the 'personal' angle other people used in their posts. ...as for my 50/50 mix, true its not backed up with hard facts but a brief look at other sites that allow comments on press and screen releases will show that the graphics are a bone of contention. I never once said that the

Regardless of the jibes, immature responses and name calling ( not ever experienced before in a stardock forum )....I am sticking to my opinion. Those however who took the time to reply without resorting to the above, thank you I enjoyed reading your thoughts. The cold hard fact is, despite the obvious talents of the artists here and their concept....the graphics have had a mixed response across the board. Reading the replies to the various press releases & s
Sometimes pictures speak louder than words.... and cant be argued against.
Examples of Cute = Candy floss trees, Cartoon scout, the classic fairy tale castle...all plopped into a warm and fuzzy landscape. https://www.elementalgame.com/Screenshots/Kingdom_Scott_City_1280.jpg * all we need is a series of gold floating coins for the Scout to walk into and its perfect. Ping, ping, ping!!!!
While some inferior wargames allow you to steam roll, and while some less imaginative players favour this option...a true wargame allows victory via more intelligent means. ....All you are convincing me of is this'll be one of the better fantasy wargames, let down by mainstream 'cute' fantasy gfx!
To wage war you need all of the 4x.... eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate! Its got a map, resource and a tactical battle section. its a wargame!!!!!
Serious fantasy wargame? I find this concept a bit strange. I just think it's a bit pretentious to say you're above it on grounds of maturity.
Fantasy is a broad term, like with any other genre! All can encompass various age groups and tastes. You can have Childrens fantasy and Adult fantasy....surely you can grasp that concept? My humble opinion is that this artwork leans towards childlike (fairytale)
And in the case of Elemental, I don't see how anyone with a serious appreciation for beauty and excellence (be it of the nightmarish or the aloof angelic kinds) can complain at Elemental's art.
Beauty and excellence - As a Graphic Artist myself I cannot fault the ability and styling of the artists. My problem is the 'Pitch' for want of a better word. If your fantasy is childrens story books, young girls dreaming of tower
Arhhhh the old 'Gameplay is more important than look' routine... to some degree I would agree. I however wish to break this tired old arguement once and for all. Where does it say that you CANT have an attractive looking game, exploiting all the current technologies AND have great gameplay. Just listen to yourselves.. "Dont take this guy seriously...he likes good looking games. He cant be a serious gamer" Dont settle for a compromise, demand BOTH!!!!! Who are t
PLEASE STOP!!!! Please rethink your art concept. It looks like 'Fantasy meets My Little Pony'. Its awful!!!! How do you expect anyone, especially serious wargamers, even serious fantasy fans to take this game seriously. Why do you devs always take the 'fantasy' element as cute fairy tale? Lets have a game with an edge, a fantasy world that looks and feels real. Rant over!
