Not huge problems but consistently annoying. I haven't gotten very far into the 1.1 patch yet, but I have noticed that there are problems with the Sovereign shield (arm clips through it, especially noticeable in Sovereign Creator) and Champions holding wooden staffs too near the top (looks strange). And I don't know if this is a problem or not, but it seems that my video card fan runs full speed constantly while playing Elemental; it doesn't even do that with Starcraft 2.

I've posted my thoughts on the Civ5 demo elsewhere, but I never even thought of that: moving your huge army in the late game must be a pain in the rear. If I want good combat, I'll play an RTS: give me a stack of doom any day in a TBS. So with the 100 turn demo limit, you feel like you're not getting enough, but they also hide the late game problems, difficult line to walk. I wonder if the "number theory of Civ" will still hold out. I was a huge Civ2 fan, I didn't re

It's a pretty simple decision for me, and I am able to have a pretty fair 1 to 1 comparison: after I played the Civ4 demo, I had to have it. After I played the Civ5 demo, I really don't care and I'm glad I didn't preorder it. And with all the additions of the 2 Civ4 expansions, I can't really go back to basics with Civ5.

There is A Game of Thrones card game AND a separate board game (Fantasy Flight Games, I believe): the board game is kinda like Diplomacy with more interesting battle elements. I like the story line of the books, but it's hard to recommend because of certain...questionable elements (I'd say it's rated R and above), so I wouldn't recommend it to my family, but if you don't have a problem with that sort of stuff, it's a good read.

Yeah it's not all bad; natural wonders are interesting (kinda Alpha Centauri like when you discover those named areas, even if they're not significant game-wise). And I was confused at first about it saying 4 horses at the top of the main screen: I thought it was because the horse tile had 4 horses in it :) So does that mean you can supply 4 cities with horses or what? I think I'm gonna go with A Game of Thrones: I played it with my housemates a year ago, and I heard an HBO seri

I'll just copy/paste my impressions and add a couple more: I just played the demo, and I don't think I can go from Civ4 BtS to Civ5: it just feels like I'm losing a lot, especially in complexity. No, Civ5 isn't quite CivRev (which I hated), but it is definitely dumbed-down in my opinion. No city health management, automatic "no-rush" game mode by having cities with their own defense stat (it's a freakin chore just to take down this city-state; I don't mean har

I was going through the image files myself to see what was there, and I haven't even been able to find the full screen quest splash screens (the ones with the weird statue and the observatory-like building). But I did notice that City_Select_Stright is misspelled (should be Straight). I was wondering if this is a mistake since I would assume that in your code you would call the image, and maybe it was spelled correctly there (I'm not sure how it works), and if it was then it would

I was reading in another thread that someone had screwed up research tech pics or something. In my game, the pictures for the popup quest boxes (not the full screen ones, the boxed ones, like during the Find The Compass quest with multiple parts) are screwed up (I think). Usually, the picture looks like it's zoomed in on a wooden wall, another one looks like it's zoomed in on a spear or flag or something (triangular shaped). I think the fix in the other thread was delete a c

So, with this new system, are Channellers really not that special anymore? Because now, when you Imbue a Champion, the Champion starts with a really small mana pool and has to work up to being as strong as the Channeller. But with the new system, the Champion can be immediately as strong or stronger than the Channeller if they have a higher Intelligence (which is common with the more Adventuring types). So if I was in this world, I would try to get a Channeller to imbue me a

I'm all for frequent updates, but when the bug that I (and others) have reported since 1.05 (the on-map city label of one of my cities changes to a foreign city) is still there, for some reason Janusk can always move 2 spaces through forests and swamps and hills (but my Sov can't, guessing it's a bug with Janusk), and the bow cost, I'm guessing QA is headed by Creed Bratton. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCewsReTg5A

Regarding city damage, since people seem to have trouble with how gold is earned one way or the other (either too little from resources or too much coming from monsters), why not add a function like Rome: Total War? You can pillage it for extra gold or leave it be to keep structures intact. Unfortunately since Elemental doesn't have a happiness statistic for some reason, there's less depth in regards to city capturing (in Rome you could decimate the population so it won't revolt a

I don't know much about these things, but I always thought Familiars were supposed to be representations of their summoner. The current familiar is really odd since it's this demon-looking thing even though it is for Kingdoms, which are the "good guys." I think an interesting feature would be adding to Sovereign customization the ability to choose what your familiar looks like. It doesn't have to be full blown customization that is Spore-like, but being able to choose a bear

It's sometimes hard to get into my head that this is a Post-Apocalyptic Fantasy 4X TBS (that's a mouthful). I think, unfortunately, that the landscape in Elemental doesn't have the same feel as in Fallout (1,2, and 3), so it's just open and boring instead of desolate and lifeless. I think maybe ruins of entire cities would help the atmosphere (only put 1 goody hut in there, but it can be a multi-tile ruin). And I'm not completely sure on WHAT actually did the destruction: wa

I think I may agree with the food part, but I don't have a problem with Iron because even in Civ4 you need Bronze or Iron for Axemen or Swordsman (if I remember correctly...), and these are really basic units. Heck, in both Civ and Elemental you can't do ANYTHING with mounted units unless you have horses.

As a Kingdom, after I researched the Trading tech I built three caravans at three different cities. After they were all built I sent them out to establish a trade route. Before they reached the city to establish the route, I saved the game and quit out. When I loaded it back up, all of the caravans were gone, but the game thought I had built them because it wouldn't let me recruit any more (Trading limit). Unfortunately I don't have a before and after save file becau

If I understand it correctly, the attackers have less morale then the defenders, so the defenders are allowed to wait and the attackers must attack unless they want mass panic and retreat. Unfortunately, the AI is an idiot so it attacks towards me even if it's defending.

I can't tell if the smiley is supposed to mean sarcasm or something, but if you press Shift-Tab in game, you see that there are achievements for Elemental, but they seem to not be enabled yet.

Why do people insult things they don't understand? Common human nature? Of course Starcraft 2 isn't like Elemental, neither is Rise of Nations (an "empire building" RTS) or Age of Mythology (fantasy world). They're not supposed to be, but there DEFINITELY is strategy in them, not just a clickfest. Did Bobby Fischer not use strategy when he played speed chess, which I believe he played a lot of? SC2 is like playing 3 games of speed chess at once: 1 managing your r

But when you start getting squads (which is really early), isn't 10 damage almost nothing? But it would be extremely powerful against champions.
