I don't think it does have more micro Storm. They added some things, but they also streamlined other areas so in terms of time spent on micro I don't think it's going up. Kotaku has a great preview up now. I'm getting excited! :)

It is a point system, the "points" just come from the movement stat instead. Effectively it's how AoW 2 worked (except that in AoW the combat speed was fixed at 3). It worked pretty well. Whatever they do, I'm not a fan of the existing combat speed implementation at all. Seems like most people aren't. I'm not entirely sure why Stardock likes it so much.
There wasn't really anything that didn't tie in with the story, but the "story" has more going on then just the main plot. I guess that could be called filler, though I like it over the more normal RTS campaign where everything has to be directly part of the main plot because the story has to move so fast that there's no time to cover anything else that is going on. Everything they have you do ties into Raynor's actions in some way.
Why do they need to persist over multiple games? In fact, why make them persist over multiple characters? It could add a nice touch to the dynasty system to make achievements earned by the current sovereign, and lost on that sovereign's death. In a similar way to the traits characters can pick up in the recent Total War games or Crusader Kings; if you go adventuring with your sovereign they could earn achievements from that; maybe they kill
There's a really big combat speed thread somewhere that I can't find right now. The summarized version is that nearly everybody who doesn't work at Stardock doesn't like combat speed the way it works now and wants it changed some way or another to untie attacks from movement. The simplest method was to add a movement stat, and then have an attack use (Movement / Combat Speed) of your points. So with a CS of 1 you can attack once, with 2 you can attack twice (or once, depending on how much you

Is there a way to switch back to the old color scheme? Check reply #80 in this thread for a Firefox plugin that should let you fiddle with the scheme a bit. I haven't used it personally, but a few people in that thread have (and there's a screenshot posted) https://forums.elementalgame.com/390048/page/4
It's definitely looking better, thanks for the hard work. :)
Windows 7 changed some values for how the experience index works. It could be you got hit by that change, or it could be that your processor is having some kind of problem that's slowing it down in 7. Have you checked event viewer for errors or warnings?
I'm using Vista x64, but it should be the same on 7. I did do a complete reinstall when beta 4 showed up. I even deleted all the elemental files I could find before installing. Explorer pic
I think that did it. I upgraded from beta 3 (which didn't have the Games Explorer stuff in yet). So to test it I uninstalled and then reinstalled, and now I have the Games Explorer entry. Mystery solved
Some new details courtesy of CivFanatics . Thing that I find most interesting is that building upgrades in cities have a maintenance cost now. I think I like that. It was often a no brainer in Civ 4 to build upgrades whenever you didn't need troops, because there's really no downside to it.

Sure the maps were different, but there was nothing new to see. If I could enhance it by earning some bonuses from achievements, it would've lasted a lot longer.
But you didn't change anything. The bonuses mean it's still the same game, only easier. That's not going to make it last longer. Deeds in LotRO are a good example

I guess this is preference, but achievements that don't do anything are meaningless to me. Why would I kill 47 summoned units with cavalry under a full moon if I get nothing for it? As a primarily single player game, there's not going to be much use for a social aspect to them, unlike say SC2's portraits.
Depending on what it's 10% of

When you've got a sandbox game and each new map is starting fresh, why would I start with 10% more whatever then everybody else because in the last game I happened to kill 47 summoned units with cavalry unde
Previous Stardock games actually *have* allowed you to install multiple copies for LAN play. I don't know if you can do it with say 14 people, but if you wanted to play with a friend over LAN? Their stance has been to go for it. It's a very customer-friendly approach.
My wife tends to dislike it when I go out to meet other girls. Try again though. :P

Thats the point. You are playing an unfinished version of the game and testing different functions out. The whole point is almost to see what doesn't work. I'm sorry if you thought you were downloading a Demo of a finished product, but I'm pretty sure every time you click
Nice to have you here. :) I'll be watching for the demo for sure, this looks interesting.
I notice that the Elemental website has a GFW logo on it now. Is Elemental going to be a GFW certified game? (Note: NOT GFWL! There's a difference.) I ask because beta 4 doesn't integrate with the Games Explorer, which is the very first requirement of GFW. Most likely this is just due to the game not having an ESRB rating yet, but I figured it was worth mentioning. :)
