A lot of .net work gets done in VB, and if all you're getting is a compiled installer you'd never really notice the difference. It's got a worse reputation then the current version deserves, mostly due to VB6 and its ilk. Counting at 0 these days is just a defacto standard, there's no technical reason why modern compilers couldn't adapt if we started at 1 instead. I wish we would, 0 based indexes always cause confusion and off by one bugs from new programmers.
This is better than the multiple terrain names and multiple maps being shared. I've suggested related recommendations earlier, but in any case it should be one single map with each terrain having one name used by everyone. Otherwise problems such as 4 players meet via IM chats to discuss an allied strategy against one super powerful player would cause each player of the four players to be looking at 4 d
Agree on the getting over-complicated point, but naming stuff really does matter to those of us with a strong RPG streak and probably others. Even if a river has no mechanical role in the game, naming it is part of transforming a randomly generated map into an immersive game world.
My point isn't that the naming stuff isn't a good thing (I love the idea of naming rivers and such), just that we don't need some

Well, you could make a Cleric unit as one that has a healing ability instead of an army wide bonus. Patching up your forces after a battle is really useful (or even during it, if the heal is usable during tactical combat).

This is getting vastly over-complicated. Naming should be something fun and simple, not something burdened with 50 rules and 2000 lines of code to enforce them. If you and I want to both name the same river something else, who cares? In the past that river had no name at all, and I managed to tell you where I wanted you to go just fine using things like map pings or "that river Southeast of Shadowprey Village." Over-complexity just means more rules to learn and more chances fo

It's not that uncommon for different civilizations to have different names for the same landmark, especially if they're at war. So if I want to name the river "St. Tridus Brook" and you want to name it "Frogboy was here"... hey, the winner of the war gets to decide on the final name! :)

The world is so conveniently primitive without strategic zoom. I'm particularly baffled by Starcraft fans' attitude. For SC2, they argue to have worse interface, like no multiple building select, no ability to set certain spells/abilities like repair and heal on autocast (heals/repeairs everything near th

Looks like a good roadmap. Is there going to be a window when beta 0 comes out that we can pre-order and still get in? (I don't want to do it now because due to foreign exchange fluctuations, I don't know how much I'll actually be paying until the day I'm getting charged.)
I don't understand, you can select a worker, type Alt-R, select a tile, and it will automate building a (rail)road to that spot. It's even more flexible than what you describe because you can build between any two tiles, allowing a more flexible road network
There was a button on the UI to do it too. That's almost always how I built roads, building them one square at a time is pretty silly.

What a neat idea. It also makes risky fights more risky. I've been known to make foolish attacks in some games before because if it goes badly I can just reload and try again a few more times, or give up. I like it! :D

I'm waiting until a beta comes out simply because I want to know how much I'm going to be charged. Due to foreign exchange rates shifting like crazy lately, I really don't know what the game is going to cost me in Canada until the day arrives. So as soon as Stardock starts doing billing, thats when I'll place an order.

This is probably an obvious one for the developers, but I din't see a thread on it. I'd like to see a verison of Elemental with 64 bit support, so those of us with Vista 64 and lots of RAM can play on really huge maps beyond what the 2GB limit would normally allow.

Looks like my post got eaten. :( I have the same concern some other people do. It would be pretty bland if all we had was "weapon +1, weapon +6", etc. I'd prefer to see multiple weapon types, which have modifiers on top of the standard attack bonus. Bows for example are pretty effective when a city garrison is using them to defend. Pikes are good against mounted units.

The advantage of training increasing one thing is consistency and simplicity. It increases effectiveness by making your units last longer (a 7 HP 1A unit will beat 3 1 HP 1A units). Letting people train the other stats up adds complexity, but does it add anything to the game other then complexity? edit - I would like to add that I hope HP goes up wit hsomething other then training. If the numbers stay consistent, eventually weapons will get strong

Just some extra thoughts on this... I have seen some old routers that can get CPU bound under heavy load. If that's the case, a better router WOULD speed things up. It's not typically the case, though. The liklier problem is that they're just using a lot of your connection. Two things in particular: 1. If everybody is wireless, the channel can get clogged (same if a lot of wireless routers are in your area). Hooking your computer up using a wired connection will

I actually think you're arguing for the sake of arguing, to see how wrong arguments people can agree to, because in my eyes your decisions would make for a horrible game. I wonder if you think about how the game would play with your mechanics.... Let me put it this way
