A bit of an update. I've been messing around with the FE Race Editor and made a template race, and then copy/pasted my blood ability into the generated race, and it shows up in game just fine. The problem I'm having is that any race I generate with FE Editor doesn't seem to have a head, or access to any kind of clothing. Which is...mildly alarming, to say the last. Is this a known issue with this program, and--if so--is there any w

That was immensely helpful. I now have the AbilityBonus worked out for my Silune faction in a way that pleases me (I took a bit of inspiration as adding the -1 hitpoint per level as a balancer that you had in yours because it fits my 'frail scholarly mage' theme.) [code="xml"] Sihal Blood</Disp

I've recently got into some basic modding for Legendary Heroes, as it's truly an excellent game and what I've waited for ever since War of Magic came out all those years ago. I've been working on a somewhat basic custom faction I've had a lot of fun playing--which I plan to release on some point--but I've kind of hit a brick wall on my XML editing. I'm not very well versed on how to create custom race types for said faction. &n

I've always thought that perhaps a way to "fix" champions would be that if they fall and the overall battle is won on your side, they get one of the injury perks they currently have, and if that side loses the battle, they die; perhaps with some chance for escape tied into a perk or tied into territorial control. They should be the heroes; stars of the show, but at the same time there should be some risk/reward metric there. A question of whether

[quote who="sagittary" reply="10" id="2852233"]But do know what Capitar is? Not really. And we're not likely to be inclined to learn much just to play a game and 'get into it'. More so, Elemental is a post-Apocalyptic fantasy world... a far cry from the standard fantasy conventions (setting particulars not withstanding at that). Elemental, perhaps, needs to be much more forceful with what it is. We see these fantastic battles and unit portait backgrounds that are hardly reflected in the in-ga

Things the AI does that make little sense that I haven't seen mentioned: 1) The AI doesn't seem to hire very many heroes at all, giving me a vastly higher proportion of heroes to grab and equip myself. They'll do this even when sitting on piles of money. 2) The AI won't push an advantage if they are of equivalent or slightly inferior, or even slightly superior power ratings. The AI is only aggressive when its power ratings vastly outstrip my own. Whi

[quote who="Mystikmind" reply="10" id="2847542"] Thanks for that. So i can anticipate that food will have replaced gold as the primary limiting factor on expansion now? And the food multiplier of caravans is gone, i know that, so it will be pretty harsh? If so, well, being limited by food is definitely preferable to being limited by gold i would say - If you find yourself between a rock and a hard place with food at least other as

I'd also like to mention that the engine used for the game is one designed in-house by Stardock, and so it never (and really couldn't ever, considering Stardock's size) went through the rigorous compatibility testing that larger engines go through. And some of the larger engines even have serious issues. Look at Gamebryo. The only way to rectify this is to submit crash data; otherwise your voice, and your technical problem, might never be heard o

I find it really odd you folks are having so many crashes. Throughout the beta process, I had exactly one, and then two earlier today in 1.10. I reported them all. I updated my video drivers (I didn't realize they were out of date, actually), and I haven't had a crash since. And the game's been up since around noon. So that's....eight hours or so of continuous play plus alt+tabbing out. Hundreds of turns. You can't expect the cra

Population tax is the primary form of income. Like, seriously. Gold mines are rare bonuses. Your population is the most important resource now. To the point that gold is FAR more plentiful than before, but almost everything has an upkeep cost, keeping it somewhat in check. You have to decide not only to grow your population, but how much upkeep you can afford to pay and whether you have enough population to support the buildings in

@Mystikmind ...You do realize that the population of your cities now pay taxes, giving you a direct gold income based on the amount of citizens in the city. That's exactly what you described you wanted, and it's in 1.1.

As I mentioned in this thread here , food is a capacity . This in fact illustrates exactly why I think the display should be changed, because if it were formatted the way population is, I don't think there would be confusion quite like there is now.

While I do think that the prices are strangely scaled, I disagree in making heroes any weaker than they currently are. They're heroes . This game has RPG-inspired bits, and this is an important part of it. In the 1.0x era, heroes, especially the "increased movement" ones, were basically completely useless facilities that cost far too much gold for what was basically a single unit of equal or lesser ability to a single produced unit. &

And a second one. Happened right when I clicked "next" on spell research. Log file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16663271/Elemental1_1-2010-12-15T13-11-09-533.zip

First crash I've had since that last one I've posted. This one happened right as a turn was beginning. I had just heard the little clonking noise one hears when a unit is complete, and then it sent me to the desktop. The log file is here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16663271/Elemental1_1-2010-12-15T12-17-42-587.zip

[quote who="CdrRogdan" reply="20" id="2846240"]I think it was a bad design decision to put such a powerful spell (teleport) into a starting character selection. Teleport trumps Organized (the thing that lets your army move at your sovereigns speed) by a massive ammount and cost significantly fewer points. I seriously don't miss any spells out of enchantment or (terraforming?), and only combat if I'm going intelligence heavy, but I always -ALWAYS- miss teleport. This spell shoul

[quote who="Frogboy" reply="4" id="2846179"] I am not convinced that we need 5 different tech trees. I could almost imagine it broken down to 3 like: Civilization Lore Magic where Warfare, Diplomacy, Adventure and Magic get split into these areas. Or put another way, the 3 basic means to victory should be the paths like Mundane, Magic, Adventure. Win via Lord hammers, win through devastating spells, win thro

It would be very interesting to one day learn exactly what goes into staging and distributing a patch over Impulse, if there isn't an article on it already. I suspect it's not as quick and simple as some would believe.

Though I posted in Derek's initial post in the Support forum for this, I'll post here too. This is a major milestone in the game's development and progress. I'd like to thank Stardock for their dedication at turning the game around. I was someone that had a lot of fun at release, but this is mainly because I enjoyed the sandboxyness and playing around so much. But as one post said, Elemental is actually a game

I believe they did mention that a lot of the diagnostics is being pulled out in the official release (for instance, in the betas, every single action in tactical battles was recorded to a log file to help identify crashes), which will result in an overall speedier, less stuttery game.
