Pretty sharp list that, relevent to more than game design. Number ten is definately the most important for me, though seven is a close second.
Gaining that office is like some horrible collision between having a religious conversion and getting dosed with powerful pyschedelics without having the least idea about set-setting-dosage guidelines. And it doesn't help that no small few of them end up on factory meds that help them 'stay productive' while they're steadily growing less sane. Metal footballs with nuke codes, harmless party crashers who are somehow scary just because they got in, presidential ghosts wandering the halls
I’m sure there are exceptions but it sure seems to me that not only are all deniers conservative, but also that all conservatives are deniers. And the reverse seems true about liberals.
Such is the usual outcome of topics fed into the rhetoric engine.
It just seems to me that this denial stuff makes folks seem like the lunatic fringe and so all that happens is that they get ignored whereas if they admitted the obvious and simply argue against extrem
Given the GFWL "experience" thus far, I'd rather have a rabid badger shampoo my crotch than buy a game off of the service.
Agreed. GFWL can just go away.
Seriously though, I've been complaining about this for a bit, and guess what, all of them are going to have exclusives which makes having each of them necessary.
Strong, but I can dig your annoyance, I think of it like a filter...I was very excited about DOW2 but the GFWL invasion made th
Ah this is just great... Several treaty types is fantastic news. CariElf, will their be any bonuses tied to relations status? As in increasing values depending on the flow of love? It would be a great way to deepen alliances in the game and a possible way out against a recourse lucky juggernaught. Would it possible to integrate tech trade into the diplomacy model?
I wonder if they'll ban the movies too? Pretty lame from the country that turned out such greats as "Mad Max".
It's actually the interactivity factor that's causing alot of the problems...thus movies are fine (and have r18 anyway)
If any company saw a order for the game and it's address was in Australia they'd have to send that customer the Australian version of the game.
It's not like any Aussie with an internet connection can't get those games anyway. All their government is doing is promoting piracy.
Believe me Deth it aisn't as simple as that and it's driving everyone here round the twist...basically theres a hideous little bedsore politician making a name for himself out of gaming and it's prompting our communities to split and forcing cumbersome processes into our buying habits. It feels like being forced to fill out a surv
Fun games are probably the best value for money on the planet.
damn straight! I bought a copy of Sins six months ago but haven't had time to boot it...looking forward to doing so in 2010 and grabbing the expansions.
wish they'd just go the expansion route like they used to
So do I...DLC makes me think small and thus less immersive, though I freely admit that this is a potential failure of my own imagination. As long as they compile it all for a single sale in the end I'm happy, just cbf keeping track of multiple instances of content...
Now obviously this creates an IMMENSE matrix of possibilities, and while we'll fill in the obvious and more likely ones, the system is set up to allow entries to be read in from any file. We expect many mods that are extend and improve upon the conversations that popup throughout each game.
Flipping awesome...great post! Given Stardocks track record for post-release love, I'm sure such a foundation is going to yield great goodness in the long run.
If I'm 300 or 400 turns into a game of Elemental and I'm winning, I'm going to feel pretty mad if one of my competitors suddenly has a massive force and is hammering down my castle doors.
Granted, but often one of the criticisms leveled at 4x games is the boring late game. Hopefully there will be some kind of convergence with the different strategies available in elemental, personally I'd like to see diplomacy play a role in good comeback strategies, rather than just a
Also how long did the titans rule/fight over the world? Long enough for fallen to be created and numerous enough, but is it years, decades or centuries?
relax man...I'm sure the necessary details will knit themselves together according to the needs of the game. Writing layers of world detail, while fantastic for simulating depth, can sap your resources if not kept in check.
Here's one: Once upon a time, there were neanderthals. Great update! Amazing how much faster it is to grasp everything when you're actually clicking around the interface...very helpful. And as for you Mr Ravenx...was he flattered and curious? Or was he just going to attempt to beat you? And what was your immediate response when you beheld her sudden manliness? Oh...and finally, what was your pick up line to the back of someones head?
Neverwinter Nights is one of the best RPGs ive ever played and it is a D&D RPG. Singleplayer with a multiplayer feature but it is suggested for single player only. I dont know if people play it multiplayer. Fantastic! Great to see mythos is playing a big role. I love the idea of fallen dragons...world building is such good fun!
Awesome post, very exciting ideas...couple of quick questions: How are you looking to integrate tech trading into this model? Would it be possible to use a tier system that could tie in with diplomatic relations? Closer allies get more access or something? Keep on truckin!
# Infinite techs. That is, the tech tree doesn’t end. There’s always a new tech being generated once you reach the “end” of the official techs. # Random techs. Techs that aren’t in every game that add spice to the game world. # Situational techs. Techs that show up because certain in-game criteria are met.
Sounds Fantastic! Are there going to be team only techs as well?
Random techs would get on my nerves. Situatio
We did Galactic Civilizations II with 3 programmers and 2 artists in 18 months.
Amazing stat that, very exciting for elemental that you have so much more to work with.
id anyone else find the # of background stories to be lacking?
I actually think the origins idea on the whole to be really well conceived (in theory of course). It seems they've made replayability a high priority with this game, which is a great focus for an RPG. I was deadset on the Dwarven noble at first, as I loved the idea of my character living in a big stone fortress, but upon seeing the origin intro...it seems that the commoner is the way to go...
With Steam you can indeed play offline, as long as the account has logged in at some point.
Yeah, the only thing that bugs me is having to be online to LAN l4d...drives me crazy...means we can't LAN at ppl's house w/out the internet. Really wish they'd get rid of that, though I can see their point of view.
It was fun playing with her, but she hasn't expressed any interest in other RPG games
My partner played through NWN and an RPG gamer was born, she's already pre-ordered Dragon Age and is very excited about it on account of her NWN experience...I would strongly recommend showing her their website, especially the characters section...she may just find her next adventure there :) Unfortunately for your situation, theres no multi, but I'm confident she'll love it. 8
