But I have to admit that it's been a decade or more since getting a new PC changed from a fun, self-indulgent thing to a tedious chore.
Damn straight, just the thought of a reinstall seems an epic hassle

I can only speak for myself when I say that the biggest "change" with regards to it has been being away from it long enough to stop looking at it as "my baby" and instead get enough objectivity to evaluate it as a stand-alone gaming product. As a novelist, I've found this to be the one of the biggest challenges. The worst part is, working with deadlines makes finding the necessary time away almost impossible to justify and so you ju
comparing something you've written to what is regarded as a classic by many seems like a huge shameless plug
Of course it was (not to mention tongue in cheek) and you have no need to apologize, I just thought the people here might be interested in what I do as I've been posting here a lot over the last few years. Thinking about it afterward though, I reckon I should have just started my own thread so to avoid upsetting people like yourself. So sorry about that, what can
I have never subscribed to the idea that in order for something to be good, it has to be original. I just don't believe that. I think it's in the presentation and the style and a lot of things but it doesn't really matter to me if someone takes the concept of a vampire and makes it their own so long as they don't try and claim they invented the vampire (some of the authors do try this, drives me nuts!
Totally agree. Great post.<
Except for Dragon's Age oddly, which I felt really bored and can't explain. My partner and were wondering about this last night...we both enjoyed it, but both felt there was zero freedom to explore and that held it back from us really loving it. Particularly the bandit cutscenes that prevented you from just travelling peacefully between towns. My guilty pleasure in gaming...exploring towns in rpg's with a pack full of loot to sell, trading said loot and taking that h
Great news, and ninjas make everything ten percent more awesome
I say that it doesn't matter at ALL to me. It's all about execution.
In terms of art, truer words have never been spoken. Personally I'd always considered the design of the Alien to elude to the properties of mind itself, particularly the nature of its transmission from one being to the next. Whether or not such a reading was intended, it certainly has a lot to offer in terms of festering new ideas that take on the aspect of the chosen vessel...as the aliens do

Don't play MoM's...but...I can't really see the difference between buying this and buying a game. In fact, what about 25 bux worth of beer? That'll be gone forever in a few days and take your memory with it. Shit, I've spent 25 shouting a bud to the movies and that lasted 2 hrs... I say good luck to them. The only improvement I could think of would be peddle powered energy generator under their desk, but we could probably all do with that. Maybe something lashed up to the mouse arm...
This blog is mainly targeted at the users who are contacting us privately telling us quit “delaying” or how important it is for the game to be released in August or saying that we’re being too perfectionist.
Holy Cow that is just baffling...the only reason I could think of for such an incredulous act would have to be a terminal illness...or to really stretch it, inside knowledge of a worldwide EMP attack.
Could also be a good vehicle for leveraging more Random House novel content for the campaign components if you can pull some characters from that story to serve as advisors.
Tidy. I like the idea of advisors, especially if they're fallible according to skillset or bias. Eg: Coupling a victory condition playstyle to each advisor.
I think I rambled on a little bit there...
Heh...was pretty funny though :) You are right of course, the question whether or not the critic has become jaded will shaft any potential meaning in a review of anything at all, let alone just games. As they say, the medium is the message...just design your own processes and hang on for the ride, everythings a gamble at some level.
Yep, have to say Galciv2, even when I was learning how to play it (took a while, wasn't really a 4x fan at that stage) I was sceptical that it could be that great...man was I glad to be wrong! I played the crap out of that game. As for good stuff being harder to sneak up on you as you get older...I find books are immune to that phenomenon, actually now that I think of it...defcon was another good one I expected nothing from.
Torchlight Geometry Wars Dawn of War (Solstorm skirmishes)
Really? What bugs are you running into?
aye, do tell?
Actually it's exactly my point. It'd make news. Therefore it'd be publicity, whether you went to jail and such or not.
k fair enough, but it's still marketing right? Would you say that the goal of publicity is to generate awareness? Some people might agree with destructive tendencies...better that you're in the category of discussion than ignorance wouldn't you agree?
Always seemed like a silly saying.
Yeah I can dig that perspective, I used to agree myself...but then I noticed that the people bagging your work are really doing you a favour, because ultimately they bring its integrity into question...which if you have done your best, can never be an issue. What else can anyone really do? Here is why it helps...people that sit around all day teeing off on the endeavours of others, are very rarely worthy individuals, which just
I think that all publicity is good publicity and in the end, you can only really "focus on making something excellent," to quote a fine businessman.
Except when it doesn't. "Balance" doesn't have to mean everything is the same, it means the factions all have effective ways of winning. Imbalance is when one faction has an unkillable unit. So you play that faction, spam that unit, and you win. That is not healthy for any game, single player or otherwise.
Of course you are right about that Tridus, mind you, your addition of the term "wild" to your immediate assessment is misrepresentative to say the least, but given yo
Welcome aboard :)
Balance is pretty important in single player too. Without it, you get fun things like the "play this if you want to win" faction and the "sorry, you're totally screwed" faction.
That is actually the reason why I prefer a game to be unbalanced, it adds a layer of difficulty/diversity, unfortunately I find that is precisely the sacrifice when multi is in the mix...not always, but often. It's very satisfying to play with a team that has a tough period on account of their s
