It took Toady 8 years to get what we have now, and he's nowhere near done. Even with a proper team, making Dwarf Fortress with a good UI and graphics would take at least 5 years, probably 10+. And things like Forgotten Beasts and Titans would not be feasable with real graphics. Plus it would be rated the one above M, I think it's Ao (Adults Only), so noone would carry it, the gore would be insane .

Okay, any suggestions for a starting build? I'm not very good at choosing them. I'll use my best judgement if I have to, but we may regret it.[e digicons]:P[/e] Here's a copy of my notes for the map: It has an aquifer, but you can easily pierce it by going under the ocean, the land is untamed wilds, the ocean is joyous wilds, so there's a chance for merpeople; it also has sparse trees and moderate vegetation. As long as there are some trees, we should be fine. You can order plenty from the caravan, the elves and humans bring a bunch if you have low amounts, and there's always the caverns.
Ok, I've found another one I think is decent. If you want something else just ask. Here's two I've whipped up: They've both got access to all civs. The first goes 35 z-levels down, and the second 36. The second has a minor river meeting with a brook, but has more soil layers than the first, so less stone with our limited amount of z-levels. The

I only have the Complete and Utter Newby Tutorial and 3 forts under my belt (I flooded the tutorial intentionally and the other three. . .let's just not talk about.) Other than that, I'm fine with whatever, since, as stated, I fully expect to screw it up and have people have to revert. [/quote]<

I'd prefer 2010, because I find it much more Fun. I'm fine with 2010. I just need to figure out how to hook MayDay's into it and muck with the resolution, since the version I downloaded seems to be immune to my doing so.<

It would be nice if Brad would just tell us yes or no, the suspence is killing me! Of course he's probably reading the forums with some popcorn in his hand, laughing as he watches us squirm.

You see, I prefer no abstraction. If it were possible, I would say have the game track every particle and its interactions. If chess or go can offer strategic depth, then what kind of depth could a perfect simulation achieve? I mean think how much more in-depth real life wars are than chess. A perfect simulation would require much more thought than a simple game of chess . Too bad such a thing is not technological

I'd like to point out that the issue I have with the combat isn't the turns, it's the tiles. WEGO captures almost all the advantages of a RTS system, and eliminates the issues with better reflexes and APM in multiplayer.
