Making your own unique races is fine but you really have to give it a lot of thought. Most efforts tend to fall short or fit too well with one stereotype. Just google "our elves are better" for some examples of what people do.

I remember putting a condenser atop every single farm. Never did like boreholes but at this point I don't remember much. Great game though, wish it worked better with XP. To start with I think the order of the Wonders should not depend entirely on technology. Its okay to have a tech race but it just makes the Wonder problem worse in a way. Making a beeline for key technologies every time sort of defeats the purpose of diverse tech trees.
IMO the whole elf dwarf orc mix is stereotyped to the point of blandness. I guess at this point most of us are tired of bow using elves, axe using dwarves, evil orcs and regenerating trolls.
Eep. I've messed with the registry before and lets just say the burned hand teaches best. If I ever have to nuke and pave this system and start from scratch I will install the older drivers instead but for now I think I will just shelf the game until they patch it. Evidently some of the fixes were attached to the downloadable content and were not included with the standalone patch, once that content goes in it should fix a few problems. But anyway from what I gather the PC version as
A feature like this would be cool. But it should have a big random factor attached. If it is too predictable it will often become rather boring. In the game Alpha Centauri there are a bunch of secret projects you can complete. Each of these grants powerful bonuses for as long as you can hold onto the completed item. One of the first you have access to is called the Weather Paragdim. It basically doubles the speed of all terraforming. This is a HUGE advantage because you can get it ear
When custom content goes in I'm sure you could add racial modifiers. Balancing them could get annoying however.
We already know that SD intend to have us improve weapons in small steps, so what about having a few base models of weapons that have different stats. So for example: We have a one handed axe that does more damage than 1-handed swords but have slower attack speed. Also having 1/2handed weapons would be nice (but that's most likely already planned).
Its important not to pidgeonhole weapons into specific roles. For example if you m
Can that be done from the add/remove menu of the control panel? because a lot of these sites that reccoment the older drivers also mention unsing Driver Cleaner which can horribly bork your PC up if you do it wrong. It seems like far too much trouble for one game. I guess I will be stuck until they patch it [e digicons]>_>[/e]
Japanese is simple enough. Just scream loudly while attempting to lift your house. [e digicons];P[/e]
Other people report that the 175.19 drivers work. How do I go about installing older drivers and switching to them for a nvidia card? There doesn't seem to be any option for such things in the control panel. Apparantly all of this crap has to do with the PhysX stuff that was added to the drivers. They interfere with Mass Effect and other games as well such as WoW. A couple guys mentioned that you need to get rid of the physx drivers as well, but how could I do that? Edit: Did some exp
Its strange really, all of the problems seem localized to Mass Effect. I have never had problems with the motherboard sound until now and it runs better with hardware acceleration turned off. I don't have any chat or internet programs on this computer with the exception of ventrilo and I haven't used that in months. I don't think my graphics card is to blame for the choppy graphics, everyone seems to get them no matter the hardware spec. My card is and 8800 GTS 512 and its handled eve
I dunno the lockups are random. I just got a pretty severe one. I got rid of the sound stutter by tweaking a file. The default number of channels was only 28, I bumped it up to 64 and most of the problems went away. However in the casino all my sound shuts off and I only get random strange noises. Leaving the area solves the problem. One lockup lasted for 4 seconds before the game resumed. The last one happened as I jumped to another planet for the first time. The normandy jumped into
Maps will be flat and non-square (to fit the 'fantasy map' feel), though I'm sure this will be tweakable.
Tweakable in what way? There are a lot of things you can do with terrain that can all be displayed as a flat map. For example, a diskworld is just a round flat map. A ringworld would take the form of a very wide and thin map that connects at the top and bottom to form continuous terrain. You don't actually have to form a ring c
Until I say otherwise it can be assumed that the bolt throwers are firing continously from now on. It occured to me that none of you would understand what I meant by "triple limbed crossbow". So I drew up a little image in Paint: Figure A is the bow limb arrangement and shows how all 3 stack together. The black circle represents where the bolt sits when the weapo
Are you nuts? Mount and Blade has fantastic physics. Weapon hits do damage depending on the speed of the your weapon and hits are not random, you will only do damage if your weapon actually touches your enemy. Sure it might not be a very "sophisticated" game but it does mounted combat like no other.
Ah yes that right. Cities are multi tile affairs so it stands to reason that fortresses could be as well. Your personal castle could occupy multiple tiles inside an even bigger city. That castle would still work if you transferred it into the middle of nowhere.
See I disagree. Technology isn't magic. Arthur C. Clarke's quote "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" does not say that technology is magic. There is still an inherent separation between the two. Technology is basically anything that can be done within the laws of physics - be they known or unknown.
The only difference between Magic and Technology is that any and all technology has a

Whups, I suppose I forgot to explain the second half but it belongs in its own thread. See, even if your soldiers are able to use every bit of equipment at any time. No one ever said they knew how. Experience is what counters this whole system. Think of it this way. You have 3 playing cards in your hand and a pair of scissors in the other. The first card you cut into a triangle, the second card you cut into a circle, and the third card you leave alone. When you hold these in your hand
Quoting Tamren, reply 5 Complexity within the weapon system will allow for complexity in the armour system. The last thing we want is oversimplified combat. I generally find that the HP or health system for units is too oversimplifed for my tastes. RPGs are a good example of this, ... ...So whats the difference? The truth is, unit health can get so much more involved without becoming overtly complex.
Quite ri
I have a 3ghz dual core and an 8800 gts 512. Would that be enough? It runs left 4 dead on maximum. Steam DRM I have no problems with, once they get the DLC integrated I think I will give it a shot.
You call that a long post?!?! [e digicons][/e] I gave this a bit of thought earlier on another topic. It would be handy to build outposts of different types. Fortresses for soldiers, messenger posts for shipping and mail, that sort of thing. One challenge with military fortresses is that you can't force people to attack them in most situations. You can build a wall to block off a valley and put a fort up over the only gate for example. But there will be plenty of situations whe
Thats one reason why I listed Technology as a form of magic. When you think about it, if you don't understand how it works, it might as well be magic. If I was a DM for a game of dnd I could create a big box shaped device that lets you see inside your own ribcage, sounds like magic doesn't it? In the real world we call them X-ray machines and most people would never call it a magical device.
