I would reccomend going to NCIX.com, they have sales every week and you can get things at very good discounts. The suprise sales offer even bigger discounts but at limited quantities. The community there is quite friendly and if you ask nicely they will help you with any general questions you may have. What you want to do is learn the technology behind each component you wish to buy. Technology tends to upgrade in "tiers", the latest tier has better performance but you will pay out th

Ugh I hate this kind of stuff. It really does devalue regular editions. You are basically telling me that you have spent effort making content and I will get an incomplete game unless I pay ransom. It really depends on what kind of collecters content you are talking about. Physical goods like art books and foil boxes I can do without. But if the special edition adds actual content to the game then either everyone should be able to buy it or such content should be available to

Hmm, some nice points there.
The flaw in reasoning is this: If they can't see you, you can't see them. So simply being on higher terrain - serving as an LoS blocker - works both ways.
Right, and the same goes for lower terrain. Sitting in a foxhole will hide you from people at ground level. The key here is that blocking the LOS of enemies shooting up is much easier than blocking the LOS of enemies shooting

The world generator is more than just a map layer. It actually forms realistic terrain and geological stone layers. Its the only game I know of other than Alpha Centauri that replicates rain shadows.

16. Allow players to customize visual settings before launching the game for the first time . At the very least this should be the power to select resolution. This is doubly important if you force players to watch the entire intro the first time. 17. Give players the option of disabling into cinematics . Its okay if I must watch the intro in its entirity the first launch. But after that give me a way to turn all of that off, and add a button inside the game that lets m

Naval combat would be interesting. In MoM only the ships fought each other, the units riding them did not participate unless they could fly. It would be neat to have ship to ship battles between groups of infantry. First would come the missile fight, plus artillery if the ships had any. Then the ships would close and grapple each other and the fighting would shift from deck to deck. But that sort of mechanic requires a ton of work. And given that the game takes place in a "dead" world
IS a very well known Virus snatcher, trick is to determine how to get rid of the right files (possibly hidden by RootKits) without borking up the true ctfmon file.
How would I do that? My internet seems to be a bit closer to normal now except my ping remains crappy. I usually get 50-150ms for Canadian and US servers but I can't find anything under 400ms now.

That confirmation could be as simple as hitting f4 twice. So alt-F4F4 should close the program so fast you will wonder if it was on in the first place. Something like that would be a helpful crash recovery command. Also: 15. Disable the windows function key by default and or add a toggle switch. If you didn't know most keyboards have a functiion key that sits between alt and ctrl. This brings up the windows start menu when you press it and most people consider it comp

I will do some more in depth digging later but the only strange thing I could find was that Spybot S&D lists 6 seperate startup entries for ctfmon.exe, though there is only one instance running in task manager. ctfmon is linked to microsoft office programs, but the only word processor I have or use on this computer is notepad.

I live in Vancouver and from what I know most of our traffic goes south through Peer1. My favorite TF2 server is based in Seattle and it craps out just like all the others. Even the stardock database went down this morning which borked the forums and even impulse.

Where do you live? Sometimes Valve only gets to distribute games in certain countries.

I just don't know why but it seems the internet has been unreliable these past few days. I have a list of webcomics in my bookmarks and every now and then half of them become inaccessible en mass. Its as if half of the internet suddenly took a turn for the worst. A lot of my games that rely on internet for multiplayer are getting glitches and choppyness. This happens even though connection pings are low and framerates are well over 60. Source engine based games are particularly bad, I

There can be some fun in horrible biased starting locations, not to the degree shown above of course. But imagine if you started in a fleet of ships fleeing from your homeland which has become conquered and occupied. Where that fleet lands will have a profound effect on the growth of your empire. You could return to your home continent and set up shop in an isolated by well defensible region. Or colonize an island with all the related pros and cons.
But seriously, that's a horrible starting location
No no no! It could be worse. We could be starting on a boat!

What is there to argue about? Dev Journals are about letting the player know what is going on. We don't really have anything to add to these threads, we just comment on what they are about.

I second the focused testing. Releasing things like the unit creation interface, battle engine and even packs of concept art allows us to zoom in and spot the little problems and improvements. Once people are familiar with each facet of gameplay you can stick them all together and look for any flaws that arise between them.

So in terms of combat what affect does elevation have on combat? There are a couple main points that I can see, maybe you guys can spot a few more. The first obvious point is movement. Going down will always be easier than going up. How quickly terrain changes in elevation affects how units move over it. A very gradual slope will not hinder most units. A 50 foot sheer cliff face will stop almost anyone in thier tracks. If units have any sort of "move points" or "stamina" then moving u

Two questions. Is it okay if we use high tech instead of high magic? With the planned moddability anything is possible. Secondly do we follow the same template?

Its been out for a while now. You should be able to buy it from a number of places. The retail disk based version uses a DVD check for copy protection, you must play with the disk in the drive. The digital download release on Steam uses a limited install system , but they are very loose in that regard because you get 5 installs and from what I hear customer support is friendly about activation issues.

Id like to expand on that. 12. Fully support custom keybinding to keyboards, mice, joysticks and gamepads . Granted you don't always need all 4. I wouldn't expect to be able to play Elemental with a joystick but if I decide to play with an upside down keyboard then nothing should stop me! 13. Include mouse sensitivity and invert mouse settings . Custom in-game mouse sensitivity controls are mandatory for any game that links mouse contr

You could always plug in Microsoft Sam or one of his cousins. Artificial voices have improved greatly and there are some out there that are highly realistic.

If I could find DVORAK drivers for my logitech G15 I would happily take a screwdriver, pop off all the keys and reconfigure them manually. The trend away from named game saves is quite annoying. More games than I can remember now only give your save a DATE and the name of the area the save was made. Some more recent games like Mass Effect add a picture, but only a generic picture of that location. 10. Custom naming of savegames. It takes less than 1kb to store one lin
