So this brings me to my question: should I try Fall from Heaven, having never played it before?
If you play just one game in the genre, it should most definitely be this one. If you're unhappy with amount of strategic depth in FE, FfH2 will be very much to your liking. If you're not unhappy, you will be after playing. Also, get Tholal's More Naval AI mod, it will dramatically improve your experience
Yeah, I agree with OP. I don't feel like I'm struggling to rebuild civilization. Rather, I feel like I'm an f'ing oncologist fighting tumors that instantly metastasize all over the map.
Agreed.
Haha, on the other hand, I LOVED the particle forge. I spent hours and hours messing around with that thing.
Well, I hate to say it, but I think that I've finally realized that that this just isn't going to be the game for me. There are lots of neat ideas, but I guess I was hoping for something with a little bit more strategic depth, amongst a short list of other less important things. At this point in development, I think that it's a little bit much to hope for. Anyway, I'll be around keeping my eyes out for mods, and I'm still interested in the possible third incarnatio
Lol. Kael, Brad, have you given any thought into turning this game into a FPS? Please reply.
Nice set of elaborated arguments, must I say.
Sorry. If you're new here, you probably don't realize that this was talked to death, and then talked about some more, earlier in the beta process. Also, I'm sure that you're a very nice person, but what you proposed just doesn't sound that fun. No offense.
Yes, research is boring. But, random research only makes it boring and random.
Cool, I hope Michael Keaton is in this one too. That dumb clone of a clone Michael Keaton cracked me up...wait...what are you talking about?
His best, right after Mr. Mom. Having said that, the plot of Multiplicity 2 doesn't really look that compelling.
I still wonder why people ask questions with titles ... Seems kind of lazy
Don't be ridiculous. Titles should be descriptive, and what's more descriptive than putting the actual question in the title?
Yeah, I agree. That new cloth map looks pretty f'ing spiffy to me, too.
Wow, lots of hot tempers around the forums lately.
How can we take anything seriously if its just hearsay from fanboys?
Regardless of the developer, this is always good advice to follow. Unfortunately, Stardock's pretty stellar customer service tends to create some rabid fans around here, and I actually kind of agree that this place turns into an echo chamber pretty frequently. So, caveat emptor, I suppose.
So... I gather from this post that 1-tile cities are out?
I don't mind the ads. But, don't you think that there's going to be some butthurt from customers who see a ship prominently featured in the FE banner? You know, because there aren't any ships in-game. I know this seems nitpicky, but that banner really has a naval feel to it.
I think Brad mentioned in IRC a while back that it'd give you access to the FE online store. I believe it was 1 essence gives you access, and each one after that gives you like a 1% discount on something. Which I like, because my horses really need armor. I forget which credit cards he said they accepted, but I'm pretty sure Visa was one of them.
Huh, this is the first I'm seeing of in-thread ads. Do Stardock Gold accounts just not display them or what?
Yep. This is a good idea. Who knows how memory intensive something like that would be, though.
I cancelled my visit to my sick mother in hospital for this update.
Wow, they should quote this when they go do pre-release press tours. That's advertising that you can't buy.
I hope they're paying you overtime!
As has already been noted, tech and/or spells could turn shards from one type to another.
Seems like a band-aid to me.
You mean ones that you pay to convert them to a certain type? That might work.
Yeah, where they start as uncolored, and a mage tunes them to the type you want. Either that, or you simply choose what shrine gets built on top of it. Or whatever you want, really.
It's really disappointing to pick spellbooks at Sov creation time and when the game starts you get opposite type shards in your starting area/environment.
Agree completely. I'm honestly a little surprised that they haven't gone with FFH-style shards by now. That would fix this (significant) problem entirely.
This is a good post, OP, and I think deserves more specific elaboration (besides just UI stuff).
Much balancing this game needs.
