I have found that the LAA trick DOES help on 64 bit windows machines, but does NOT help on 32 bit machines (approximately doubling the number of turns till OOM). the downside of the laa is IT IS modifying the EXE for elemental and technically in breach of the licence agreement with stardock. harpo

whiteelk, you might have to invest in a 'back armour' to protect your back from your 'pretty kitty' wanting to be fed and letting you know by climbing your back, my cyats(17 pound and 20 pound LARGE cats) do this to me when I play for too long. harpo

sounds like it might be one of the units on autoexplore jamming up, the unit MIGHT be one of yours OR one of the ai's, and I have had this happen also, and sometimes a save of the game, exit, load and load the save has helped unstick the unit(s)/game, othertimes loading an older save has allowed me to use a different path aroungd the point of no turn. hope this helps. harpo

kyro has stated that elemental is NOT supported on xp 64 bit and microsoft itself has stopped support for the 64bit windows xp, so it is unlikely that the cause of your difficulty is going to get fixed, and even impulse is NOT supported to work on winxp 64bit, BUT elemental IS supported on both vista 64 bit AND win7 64bit, and from personal testing I MUCH prefer win7 to vshita. harpo

now we get to ask if you have the 1.09e49 version of the game. the crystal quest was faulty in 1.08, and was fixed in 1.09. after the crystals are collected by you, you should then be able to move to the fort just east of the crystal town, and the square to the east of the fort is a lost purse that has a +1 sword in it harpo

if you have killed the first lot of trolls near the sov, the second with the slag, and the third at the black temple, AND entered EACH of the trollcamps/black temple squares, it should complete (at least it did for me) harpo
