I use different sequences depending upon map size/distance to next nation and monster density on large maps with low monsters and large distance to next nation I usually focus on civ, till founding second city, then grab trade, then if shards/crystal nodes in range magic up to arcane armour and shard harvesting and back to civ till only refined researches avail, then add military again till refined are the only choices,then top up magic to refined, then do diplomacy and last adventuri

lantros, when updating I use the remove show beta, verify elemental install, update elemental to 1.09e then set show beta, check for updates on elemental, and update, then delete all folders other than map in the my games/elemental folder, then start elemental, re-create the custom race and sov, then exit and load elemental again and play a game to test. harpo
I have noticed in 1.09r that spiderlings typically have 15 health, and wolfs have either 15(less common) or 24(more common),and that bears have(from memory) 9 and brigidands have only 15. I think that the spiderlings would be better around 5-8 and wolfs around 8-10 with brigidands and humans at 15 the darklings should be about 10-12 and bears about 20. harpo
updated to 1.09r, started a new game on megamap 10 other nations at normal, playing custom sov & nation and default settings for game, used no fog cheat to look at map on turn 1, NO resources ANYWHERE on map, played on collecting 7 npc's before founding capital did not see ANY monsters until ONE turn after founding capital when the monsters spawned from the furthest square of forest from my capital in very large numbers. as usual added <a title="ctd1 1.09r" href="http://dl.dropbox
lantros, I had started a new game in 1.09r and had used arcane arrow in one of the battles, and it did .5 casters int as damage, and my heal also showed up as 6 heal, but I would feel it to be a bit better if it healed at .3 x int instead of a flat 6 health. harpo
my guess is that they were both founded in the same turn, BUT would need to check the debug.err to confirm this. harpo
played on with FOW cheat on played to turn 590 had OOM, and at turn 585 NO other nation had expanded beyond founding capital, AND no building in ANY capital other than mine. the ram usage at turn 590 was 1.5gb for elemental on a win7 64bit with 12gb ram and 9gb RAM free dump & err with folders from my games/elemental excluding maps <

yes, the single fort is ONLY FOUR squares away from the only buildable locations, and there is a FIVE square minimum distance between towns/forts to be able to build harpo
some further info re training in l3 city, I have had the crash while the city is level 3, BUT could train AFTER the city leveled up to 4, and I had a couple of other cities including one at l2 that could build the units needed, but I am going to wait for the o patch. harpo
eco, there WAS a quest that could give you a pack of two wolfs for towns leveling to 30(was the strange noise quest), but have not seen the quest trigger since release (1.00) had it a few times in beta. harpo
playing a new game, version 1.09o, custom sov, on one of my custom maps, resources are generating properly,, but had a CTD , when I checked the debug.err, the last entry was at start of turn 58 during the garbage collection on the units list. uploaded th e zip with all mygames/elemental folders other than map harpo </
started my first game with 1.09o on frogboy's megamap(note a NEW game), custom sov,no mods, had NO resources at/near starting location, used view all map cheat and could only find ONE metal patch in the entire map, also after twnty turns when I used the view map cheat, there were NO monsters/ruffians ANYWHERE on the map only wantering heros & the other kingdoms/empires. then saved game and exited also had the same issue with the same map in 1.09n but just after the map view in 1.0
jecjackal, you are correct, the OLD city level values were 25/100/200/1250 population, therefore the new level points will be 25/75/250/1000 population. harpo

my suggestion for the city proximity issue would be for the city CENTRES to have a minimum distance of 10, BUT the buildings/improvements to have a minimum distance to another city of 5, this way the city spam AND city growing togeather issues are prevented. harpo

playing the campaign and have hit an issue regarding the mining of metal in the mine crystal/metal for carrodus part of the campain, as unable to build mines/crystal foundries due to missing technology. the technology for the crystal foundries should have been given at the same time as the request to mine the resources and the mining technology should have been given during the gilden quest. harpo

I agree with anglophile that 75 spells divided between the TEN books( ie fire, air, water, earth, life, death, mobility, enchantment, combat AND terraforming )with BOTH stratigic AND tactical areas gives an average spells per book/area of 3.75 spells, and if there are only FOUR(and as the OP suggests at least 5 spell levels) levels of spells, then there is LESS than ONE spell per level/book/type, which to me suggests that it is more in the realm of scrolls, rather than BOOKS, and NEEDS A HUGE
you have ONE issue regarding the video card ram vs system ram and directx vs opengl. the points are directx uses system ram for textures, opengl can use videocard ram OR system ram but from what I have read it tends to default to videocard with a fallback to system if the video card ram is not large enough, so as most if not ALL windows games use directx, it is putting MORE ram in use. and like you I have found particular 'anti'-virus programs actually behave MORE like viruses
from my observations the stack rules seem to be the most experienced(by level) (or the first one into the stack) on top and if several have the same experience level they can swap the lead of the stack around, but unless a stardocker tells us we can only guess. harpo
