If you run Skinstudio 6, you can change the explorer background to [B]ANY[/B] .bmp or .png image. (.jpg's don't work) However, if the image is too small, it will tile, so I recommend using an image at least the size of your screen resolution. [B]NOTE:[/B] Changing the explorer background is a "per skin basis"; meaning the background change will only affect the current skin being edited.

I have been evaluating Windowblinds 6.1 on my XP Partition. After installing it, It said that the this feature can't be enabled in XP. But here's what I found out. I opened up Skinstudio and opened my custom made skin that I made with Vista. After applying the skin in XP, the explorer background changed to the same background as in Vista. I don't know if you already knew this, but Windows XP SP3 has issues; reboot issues to be precise. I downloaded and installed SP3 on my machine, and after it's installed, of course, you have to reboot. I updated my PC to SP1 earlier this year, and I couldn't really tell a difference, other than DesktopX stopped working, and some of my other apps were starting to not work properly. And the copying & pasting thing doesn't really seem much faster. The estimated time just updates more frequently so it appears to be quicker. It's not as good as I once thought. Vista SP1 lacks the performance improvements that it claims to have. Vista SP1 is in fact, slower than SP0, based on my PC's configuration. Many Vista drivers are basic compared to their XP counterparts. I own a 3 1/2 year old PC which uses XP based hardware, and I have found ways to install certain XP drivers on Vista, such as my sound card. From my experience, the XP drivers deliver more functionality than their Vista counterparts. O

Explorer Backgrounds finally work in XP, but there some limitations. You can only choose the images which came with the program. Unlike Vista, which can use any BMP or PNG image. I tried applying an image for the first time in XP, and my computer rebooted automatically without warning. After rebooting, voila, it's there. If you have it, run Skinstudio 6, and open your current skin. On the left side, click on "Backgrounds" and select the explorer background option. Find a .bmp or .png (.jpgs don't work) image of your choosing (make sure that it's big enough, or it will tile.) and click apply.
