Exciting! The 4X genre desperately needs a leapfrog over those incremental baby steps from other products currently in the market today. For everybody who's confused just remember this unofficial rule in game design and balance. "When every player is cheating the game becomes fair." [e digicons]:P[/e]

Appears like a spiritual successor at first glance but only time will tell. Scheduled for release on June 15th.
Just unite the two smiting tech trees (iron & crystal) to create superior items, weapons, armor etc.
Anyone else finding these arguments hypocritical? A quick Google will reveal J. Wilson leveraged his celebrity status to shat all over his predecessor's career with hate. When considering how small that fresh indie game company is, bad press can be devastating. Ironically this was right after the victim's interview where the analysis of Diablo 3 was mostly neutral and respectfully professional. Granted it wasn't exactly positive either but it definitely was
Completely agree sir. Anyone remember that 4th dimensional time traveling RTS game Achron ? It failed for many reasons but the big one was hardware limitations. Outdated engine, windows x32 system memory limit, no multicore, etc. The funny thing was despite Achron's severe shortcomings in game design or lackluster visuals, going back to the old school 2nd dimension RTS just didn't feel right. It's wei
This article was timed to the Starcraft2: Heart of the Swarm expansion release. If RTS is dying then we will see it in Blizzard sales. The expensive production values they have pumped is just ridiculous.
Wow I come back from Hiatus and FE has the new expansion announced, exciting timing. Will the emails for beta be out March 5th then? It's disappointing to hear that Steam will be a requirement. Sadly not everyone can run Steam in offline mode, that includes myself.
Whatever decision Stardock makes please do it really well. Meaning if you go tactical combat then go all out this time.
Maybe what's needed is a tech race? Civ4 doled out special rewards to factions for being the first to get a specific technology, like founding a new religion for example. The effect seems somewhat subtle at first but it is fun. Of course Civ4's relatively wide branching tech tree forced a little more decision making over FE.
Actually, the intended design is that expansion is always better. The limitation is your ability to clear an area of hostiles in order to expand. That limit is severely lacking to be sure. I am not sure if this is even the intended design or just the most recent stated design. Right now the early game offers few monster related limitations to expansion. Prestige offers some limitation, but only in as much as you need to level your Sov to fuel growth
Fast expand or immediate build up? Oh wait, since all starting locations are the same, plus Derek said more is better and build queues can be moved around at the player's discretion, then that means I can follow a near no brainer opening strategy every time. No thanks OP, I think Kongdej is right on the mark here. Let's all hope beta 4 doesn't turn into an early city spam rush. When it come
6) Lots of new tactical stuff. I know this is vague, but look at Might and Magic Heroes 6, it is pure candy in tactical battles. The basic unit for the Haven faction has a trait which makes the unit redirect 50% of all damage suffered by adjacent friendlies to itself. That trait alone is better (more interesting) than 90% of the traits in FE. That's just an example, but to me, the organic way forward for making units while keeping them designable is mutually ex
Building fort/military cities could become a bit odd under this new system. On one hand you desire a maxxed out fort city for the best troops but every legion you create becomes a source of food consumption and an advancement detractor. So the best strategy is to let the military cities sit there and vegetate until level 5. It wasn't such a problem before because you could access almost any improvement short of a few specials awarded on level up. Looki
Tom tends to focus very heavily on gameplay mechanics and their effects when writing up his reviews, even more so with expansions. It's what separates him from the rest of the mass out there IMO. Not so much into the details except for filler but entire systems getting into the nuts and bolts of what worked, what didn't, and why or why not with the occasional suggestion offered from time to time. Due to all the genres like FPS, such reviews on a game
Check out Tom Chick's entertaining review at Quartertothree.com . Can anyone here dispute those reasons?
Quoting enoeraew37, reply 122) I order from Getgamesgo.com for $22. We are basically paying for 2 features that should have shipped with the game to begin with..but I'll give it a shot for 20 bucks. Civ V completely redid many game mechanics that had been core to Civ II, III, and IV...trying to incorporate religion and espionage (which are not essential) would have only complicated attempts to balance completely new and unvet
Don't laugh. This malaise affects the whole gaming industry, not just EA. Maybe in the long run it's a good thing "creative destruction" and all that but it is a symptom of deeper underlining problems. Notice in the article of how Activision-Blizzard is starting to show weakness. This is after Diablo 3 and right before the HOTS expansion for Starcraft2.
You really outdid yourself this time Heavenfall.
Is this a bug or is it intentional? The text is a bit vague.
Everyone has been complaining about settler/outpost spam so essence is the answer?
A movie's worth is sometimes bet said in the faces of its audience and I've never seen so many teary eyes come out of a theater before.
I too have experienced the same problems with Steam's offline mode and have been forced to use alternate DD vendors. So what can a man do? The answer is only buy multiplayer games from Steam. My only major fear at this point are the many horror stories I've read about and there certainly are a lot of them out there.
Corporations, the great saviors of humanity. *booming music* Ah yes, Batman, Iron Man, Green Arrow and every other comic book ultra super rich archetype. That's why they're comics, so comical. Google is your friend. At least that's what Google keeps telling us. http://www.catholic.com/documents/just-war-doctrine The riddle was solved with Just War theory doctrine. Remember to keep in mind it has been revisited since the Catechism.
As much as we all want to romanticize, SETI's future coming to an end is almost inevitable. In the big scheme of things it has to go. Sorry guys.
