Not trying to fan the flames, and I hope someone from Stardock will chime in, but it's been well publicized that pre-orders would be charged when the first beta was released. This has been standard practice for every pre-order / beta from Stardock for many years. The beta for Elemental was released last week.

Hangs or crashes at splash/intro screen. If not due to firewall apps, this issue can be resolved for some by clearing the screens folder so that it is redownloaded. The suggested fix does nothing for me. I clear the contents of the folder and the game downloads the files again and CTD. If I restart the game CTD at the splash screen. Same problem. It's happened three times in a row. I'm guessing the following line from debug.err is the issue: Debug Message: ERROR: NO LAND TERRAIN TYPES. Sorry if this is a duplicate post but the first one hasn't shown up in the forum. The game crashes after the splash screen is up for just under twelve seconds. I'm getting the same behavior. No error log and I when I run Sysinternals Process Monitor to watch what the Elemental process is doing I don't see any errors of note and the process exits after just under twelve seconds.

While I'm interested by the possibility of finding a dragon's egg, or whatever the mechanic turns out to be, I'm much more interested in seeing how all the bits and pieces of system fit together. Brad is giving us many of the bits but I haven't seen enough yet to get a good picture of how things will work together. I'm semi-patiently waiting for the beta. [e digicons]O:)[/e]
