As I understand it, icefrog hardly made dota. He combined a few of the dota maps into a single one. Taking a look at the code it was pretty poorly written as well. Community for it was amazing however - opened my eyes to the worst community the internet can provide.

I modded warcraft3 for years and was hoping sc2 would be a holy grail of modding. Got into the beta - heavily disappointing with editor. It was overly complex, it was slow, it was clunky, and unfinished. Talking with people who did buy the game, and the editor didn't improve from the beta. Last I knew they couldn't actually code in text with the default editor, instead having to use the (very slow to use & run compared to text) GUI. I w

This is why I love Minecraft. I start a new game to be a pirate (can not mine anything I don't see. If I place something I can not pick it back up, torches & craft included. I traveled by sea, and my goal was to find gold). Instead, I started with this as my terrain. http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/168/javaw2010100223280554.jpg http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/5841/javaw2010100223285932.jpg http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/9291/javaw2010100
I have SC2 but i am pretty much waiting till more good custom maps come out. Unfortunately, if they don't do something about the popularity system, this could very well fail. For small-scale solo mappers like me, SC2 is a complete disaster. A lot of mappers work sporadically in their spare time and don't maintain followings at all (followings generally require you to be active every day), yet we probably constitute over 90% o

One thing I've noticed is the bigger the map, the less fun it is for me. Tiny or small maps with a ton of AIs (I can get 2-4 cities before land is enclosed around me) puts a lot of pressure on you early on. One game I decided I would exploit : Tech right to spell9 and get mountain-creation. Than create a ring of mountains so the AI couldn't get into me. Once I started making mountains it became a fight for my life. Lost 2 of my 5 cities but managed to seal myse

I really like hte idea of global mana - for one it makes the game easier to balance, and it also opens up a lot of possibilities. A spell that taps into the enemies mana. Enchanting troops so any damage they take is asorbed by the mana pool -- AKA troops do amazing until mana dries up. Than they are much more fragile. Random events could cripple the mana - cause the world's supply of mana to dissapate or turn into hostile energy beings Making it harder to

Looking at the features I'm confused as to what it actually is - it looks more like a rendering suite than a real modeling program that doesn't offer anything free alternatives do (if you have time). Photoshop (or it's free variant, Gimp) can handle all the textures you'll need, while 3dmax/Maya (blender for the free variant) will do the modeling. Unless you can edit shaders, you aren't going to manage a much more realis

Stupid people talk the loudest. Always remember that. It's a shame on the journal pause - the way the last journal ended felt like "Well if you don't like it fine. I'll stop doing them *just* for you". Honestly the drama is getting tiring. Yes, frogboy takes a lot of the blame. We get it. You making another post isn't going to make him realize "Oh shit, maybe it's not all my fault!". You w

Q: Brad Wardell – you have a martyr complex! You always take personal blame for everyone! Get off your cross! [yes, got this too] A: That is my job. If you’re going to spend years railing about CEOs not taking responsibility when something goes wrong, it would be the height of hypocrisy for me not to take responsibility when things go badly on a launch. In addition, some of the issues are directly related to my specific decisio

I hope you die after bleeding out of every oriface in your body for taking all the blame and letting the team go gosh Like I've said many time before, I've gotten my money paid over in it's worth with elemental. Amazing game, can't wait to see what it'll be like in 2 years.
I thought Brad said Elemental wasn't rushed out, that Stardock didn't rely on game sales and that even if they didn't sell another copy that the team would work on improving Elemental for the next 2 years. Guess Brad led a lot of you astray ... as my first dealings with Stardock was the game Elemental, I really do not understand where all the loyalty comes from. He seems like a real tool
Stardock doesn't

"Revjwh, you clearly care more about poor Brad the poor old Stardock company than people who have been laid off and are now struggling to find out how they will pay their mortgage/rent or feed themselves or their children. You're not operating in reality." Agree with this 100% - stardock should employ everybody in the US and canada, and at the same time solve world hunger/water problems. Not doing so is just being selfish.

World difficulty + influence would like to have a word with you. They can't spawn inside influence, and as area without influence gets smaller they spawn more heavily.
