Hello Bhavv! How are things going so far? As other's pointed out, you most probably will be quite busy, now. Guess we won't hear from you for a while... Have fun!
Hah! It's the magic of Elemental!!!!!! Another, well hidden teaser!!! [e digicons][/e]
Not sure if you have to get picked in a lottery to get in, just ordered early, or what, but hopefully I'm in since I preordered just about the day they announced it. I'm a software developer and I'm sort of looking forward to poking at a game I suspect I'll really like, written by a company I've got a lot of respect for.
I wouldn't worry about that. As far as I know, everyone who preordered will be able to take part in the beta. Re
... Regarding scales, I think Elemental would probably be very well suited to an hybrod map generation, where you create macro features with an algorithm (tectonics simulation giving plates, seas, mountain ranges), and a micro feature algorithm (at this level a fractal makes sense) to detail the heightmaps. If the level of the map goes down enough, it would hopefully be possible to code some erosion routines to have rivers carve valleys into the land.
If Civ IV will be available for european customers then I will certainly get it. I need sth to occupy me until the Elemental beta is here...
Cartagia? Thats a new name on me. Was that mentioned elsewhere? Is that the official title of the campaign world?
Yup, that's the name of the campaign world. Check the developers journal "the world of elemental". The first sentence reads like this: "The continent of Cartagia was broken into two at the climax of the titanic war between “the powers” in what became known as the cataclysm. From this we now have what the
Thus we developed thge tech "Sensor II" from GalCivII then? Cool! No honestly, this is awesome!
Banned for letting things lie around
Banned for trying to be evil!
Banned for having only one karma on the elemental forum! Damn, you don't have any... Wait, let me fix this for you! Ok, you're banned!
Well, that's the way to go! Sounds good!
Oh man... and the forums have been so cool so far... Well, I guess with success comes trollness
[...] As for fast and slow units- that will lead to a system where people will use nothing but cavalry, unless forced to do otherwise by the system. Speed kills in TBS.
Well, a pike wielding unit would be the hard counter here. Perhaps it even has a special ability: The pikemen form a hedgehog like circle and thus can't be outflanked by cavalery. I think, it all comes down to balancing (and thus beta tes
Hm, can a unit have more than one weapon? Like in: can my legionair throw his pillum and then use his sword for close combat? edit: rephrasing

Sounds good to me! Will we be able to create quests on our own? And perhaps even quests, which are based on each other?
I wonder if it could be a good idea to combine different spells and get a distinct effect? Let's say I have a "convert terrain to farmland" spell and a "let it rain for increased food production spell". By using both spells at once on the same spot, one could get some muddy wetland, which hinders a pursuing enemy unit to follow you. Hm, if I rethink it: There are supposed to be around 200 spells in the vanilla game... Ok, this would be one or the other permutation... I guess,
Wohooo! Spartan, you are great! Thanks for that side and the constant updates! 1+
Actually hiddenrabbit has a good idea Thats one of the features that i loved the most about the wonderful game Alpha Centauri. Certain features where on the randonly generated map f.x. The Saragossa Sea etc. Certain tecs opened up more of the backgrouund story. Its kinda like the sandboxy feel of the diablo games (f.x. the butcher) where you either looked forward to discovering certain familiar places or feared and prepared for them.
The style is the style. The actual images may change though.
I love the style. And I would be happy and content if the graphics stays that way.
@ Sancus: As far as I know there will be little creator programs for the users shipped with the game. Of course your options increase drastically if you have access to maya or other programs. But as most players won't have them, there are going to be other means. Have you played galcivII (there was a ship creator with tons of precreated modules. You could change the size or the orientation. The huge variety of modules made it pretty awesome)? I guess, this is the general direction w
Hah! Nice finding!
