In a way, this is how I run my D&D campaigns, which have become very popular. I set parameters instead of making up a story ahead of time that players must follow. Instead, I create a world that ascribes to certain rules, use the dice as a "random" element to determine geographical and geological ranges during the world's creation, and then cut the players loose to discover their own objectives and discover their own villains. Happy Thanksgiving to you too Raven!
I always wanted to be able to do this, not only with devices like you did but with folders as well. I always wanted to change my "games" folder into mario's head just for kicks [e digicons][/e]
This is very nice to hear, i would agree with your last statement, and am glad to see that you guys have managed to improve an already great system! [e digicons][/e]
It is not, that is true. However right now, combat is heavily RNG based, because of the very few "stats". [ATT/DEF] This is why I said, that I have my hopes up...and SD will create a decent -not RNG based- tactical-combat system.
I think no matter what, based on SD history, it will at least be a system we can all live with.. whether or not it will be ground breaking and revolutionary? I don't know, and we wont until we get our hands on a beta with tactical battles. I th
I like the idea Demiansky, and i'd recommend switching your main point to the original post so that it has a better chance of catching the devs eye. It reminds me of something they were trying to do for GalCiv II where they would take all the events and happenings and put it into a story at the end (or maybe even during the game?) I don't remember it all because it was never finished. hmm, tho i swear i remember frogboy or boogie saying something about almost having it done but their concentr
Sounds like someone's going to be coming up with a pretty cool mod, that was a fun read demiansky
I have to (humbily) disagree on this point. [e digicons]O:)[/e] Part of our goal is to make a world that 'feels' like a traditional fantasy RPG setting. When you play an rpg, you have some considerable distance to travel between cities (even when those cities are part of the same empire). The moment you have 5 settlement crammed into a corner, that 'rpg' feeling is broken and it just feels like traditional TBS city-spam. So, if
Or only give the sovereign the ability to bring life back to the land and leave all the building of the cities to settlers. That way a sovereign (you) won't feel obligated to put that city in the middle of nowhere just for that one fire shard because the settlers might not make it past all the spiders, and if he tries to imbue the land before they get there so he can continue his adventuring, someone might take it first. But I suppose their could be problems with that
at PAX they were rather clear about the scale. It will be closer to total war in that, unlike HoMM, the troops will all be present in a regiment and "not a single person with a number at the bottom". We also know that it will be in real time (except you can pause it to queue up moves) similar to political machine.
Im so glad you were able to make it to PAX landi, its good to hear things ive missed in the past, that's extremely exc
Guy running away from a chicken is WIN.
No kidding, its bloody brilliant. Reminds me of legend of zelda, i was scared to death of those dirty invincible fowls [e digicons];P[/e] why didn't they go fight Ganondorf? [e digicons]:(O[/e]
I was going to post this in the "About essence and creating cities" thread but decided it didn't really relate. It somewhat concerns me that only sovereigns can found cities. In my beta games I always go out exploring with my sovereign, but when I start building cities (near valuable resources and shards) my nation is strewn out all over the map... Which doesn't scream "fantasy world" to me in the least... [e digicons]:S[/e
I expect to see many more uses for Essence as the beta progresses. If nothing else I believe it's been stated that the sov's remaining essence is the limit to how much mana the sov can use in spells, so if you want to cast uber-spells later in the game you'll have to be careful with how you use it. Also, as valhur noted, it doesn't cost any essence to create a city on reclaimed land (land within your area of influence), so it's qu
Add me to the list of "likes". this is brilliant. I want to be able to identify cities on the map not only by name or nationality but by their look. I think the idea Stardock is currently using to place buildings on different tiles is going to help but i think it will have to be more than just that to give us the feeling of worlds like Middle-Earth and Westeros. I really like the idea of using magic and cities being shaped based on their surrounding terrain (mountains, rivers, etc)
Im gonna agree with joasoze and Norseman on this one, i think scout skill should have more of a purpose if its going to exist
P.S. can I have a Red piece please? It's my favorite color. If not Red then I'll take Black. Anything but yellow. Damn I HATE yellow. It's all shiny and happy and bright....yuck.
Lol i wouldn't be surprised if Brad gave you yellow just for that raven [e digicons]^_^'[/e]
Ok, thanks Boogie! [e digicons]|-)[/e] and thank you publius for the pic! [e digicons][/e]
Im sure all questions will be answered in time, guys lol im just psyched to hear that its all gonna be public [e digicons]|-)[/e]
Ok. Yes, I was able to build a lumber yard without a forest present, i wish i would have gotten a picture to show [e digicons]:S[/e] I'll be sure to start doing that. Do you need me to provide any system specs?
Aww [e digicons]:'([/e] I've always wanted to play a table top RPG but they've always been so confusing to learn on my own, and there aren't any places to play or learn near my town. I work 8 hours (7:30-4) but i check this site everyday when i get home and would have absolutely no other obligations, i am in the beta, and would be very interested but i understand if you want veteran players too, it would probably be very hard to teach and play. So I also vouch
Well maybe thats part of the danger in hiring heroes? They could be a spy [e digicons]:P[/e] I just wonder how in-game that could work, hmm? okay Hero, see that ledge, this is where we are going to attack from. And then ... come the battle the spy is led down the ledge with a small army, and if ppl are waiting for him they would know? This proves very interesting mind game possibilities, but im just NOT sure if I want such uncertainty (about spy or n
Unfortunately, I think we've got too many dudes to keep track of individual abilities and stuff, but I like knowing the guy in a particular regiment who got the most kills, and what his name is. It does give me someone to care about in a battle and maybe even a candidate for a battlefield promotion.
Yea, we probably will have too many units to do something individual... very sad [e digicons]:'([/e] but maybe we can at least see the stats of the commander of an i
I would love to see something like this! by chance have you played x-com, Magic? In that game soldiers have different names which you can change if you wish. if they get shot in battle but did not die they have to get medical attention for a certain amount of days before they can fight again. They can also become unconscious on the battlefield and need to be attended to right then and there or they will die of fatal wounds. Each soldier had different stats and would go up in ran
The council: First, players would have to create the wizard councils before beign able to do any diplomacy at all. Or maby only limited diplomacy is allowed. A council can be formed when each player can create a chain of communication. Ex: Player A Knows player B which knows player C. C and A does not know each other but they can still form the council. When the council is created, players vote for a council leader what will take some decisions during the game. <br
