Just found out about this game. It looks to be very deep, and the featureset is amazing. I was three bullet-points down when I starting thinking how awesome something like this would be if most of the micromanagement stuff could be delegated to AI, and then I discovered that the UI and just about everything else would be moddable. I've never modded anything before, but between this and Elemental I may just have to try it. I'm not sold on the graphics yet, but the

Not as if Sigil employees got their pink slips in the parking lot or anything (pretty sure it was Sigil).
I'm pretty sure that when Sigil was purchased by Sony, Brad knew in advance that it would happen. He was the one selling the company, after all. Likewise if Stardock were to go bankrupt or be sold to another company, Brad would know about it far in advance
See, I do think they care myself. I think they care so much that they want to ensure that none of their games are playable in 20 years. If you make sure your games, in some cases, are pretty much unplayable as intended within a couple of years due to yanked servers and drm that either stops functioning or conflicts with curren OS systems, then you can continue to churn out crap and watch gamers gobble it up because so many of them have so litt

I just wanted to point out to mastroego that he's not the only one worried about the "20 years from now" problem. The entertainment industry today, and the various DRM methods is employs, are so full of fail that I don't trust anyone anymore. I've seen Walmart, Microsoft, and Yahoo shut down DRM'd music stores , rendering their customers unable to transfer files or even pl

I had a lot of great times with Tribes 2 and Mechwarrior 4. Bought both games on a whim, which is a very unusual thing for me to do, and I've never regretted it. The recent free release of MW4 with all the community mods is all kinds of win. I know the Tribes Next people are still running Tribes 2 servers, but for some reason I just couldn't get back into it. The community is too different; almost everyone is a hardcore never-stopped-playing-even-after-ten-years uberskilled veteran, a

I do hope they clean up the random name generator at some point. If it can give me something pronounceable ~90% of the time, I'll be happy. However, I'd also like the ability to modify the name generator. That could be handy for mods, and would let me do funny things like feed it the Dwarf Fortress dictionary.

Quoting Gorstagg, reply 9This is the type of thing that is going to really going to take this game from Awesome to Epic. People talk about how great a game is, but they only play it for a while. As it's got a very short "Life Span". But this game by it's very nature is going to be very replayable. And then you throw in the ot

Like if I have a farmer who has a higher combat rating than a dragon (just go with it) and that farmer hits the dragon with his hoe, the dragon will be knocked up in the air comic-style? I mean I like the idea of specialized death/defeated animations. But

I can get to the main menu, but clicking on anything other than Multiplayer results in an immediate CTD. If I click on Multiplayer I can access the game setup screen and Impulse overlay (I like the in-game IRC access. [e digicons][/e] ), but as soon as it gets to the new game loading screen it crashes again. I just updated Windows and I'm using the nvidia drivers released two days ago. I'm also still getting the glitch where you can't see sovereign portraits unless y
EA's current business model has buyers of their used games pay $10 to gain access to certain features of the game in order to offset some of the money that is taken from them during used sales. There's nothing wrong with that scythe; I just used it as an example of what the easy-to-get stuff typically looks like. I actually prefer many of the "plain" designs myself. My ranger is currently using a Feathered Flatbow , Deldrimor Recurve , and a Maplewood Longbow . (Okay, that Deldrimor one is kin

Neither does really motivate me. WoW was a gear grind, but i don't like giving gear more or less freely to anyone. I like exploring things, fighting cool battles (generally that means dungeon bosses) and being rewarded with something that feels unique. Or is a novelty. As long as it ain't something ev
Guild Wars started to interest after listening to the music (which is done by Jeremy Soule, KOTOR and The Elder Scrolls music composer).
I love the Prophecies soundtrack. Epic, varied, and perfect for the setting. Factions music is boring; you only get to hear the good stuff if you use the Collector's Edition bonus music code thing. Nightfall's music was better, but not really my style.
What didn't interest me

I don't recall there being much anime influence in Guild Wars (except for N.O.X. ) but maybe you're watching something different from what I am. When Prophecies was in development, it was explicitly stated that much of the art and setting was inspired by Romantic Era paintings. I personally like it, though I do wish there had been some more modest armor for the elementalists. Tha
The entire skill system is different. Half your skill bar comes from what playable race you are. Multiple playable races with multiple classes, and the race bonuses include the unique race skills. It will play very different to be a Human or a Charr for instance. The other half of the bar is for your character class skills, warrior, elementalist, whatever. What class skills are up seems to be based on what weapon you are using or what you may

I'm amazed at some of you saying Gamestop should be giving publishers a cut of their used game sales. Once you sell a product, you no longer have the right to make demands regarding its use. The new owner doesn't magically owe you money if he in turn sells the product to someone else, regardless of how much he may profit from doing so. Claiming otherwise is to go against thousands of years of economic reality. I haven't heard of any used bookstores making payments to book publishers e

I sent them a few bucks even though I already bought World of Goo the last time around. I heard Gish was really good and Penumbra looks like something my Silent Hill-obsessed brother would really enjoy. Looking at their statistics on the offer page, I see they've managed to raise $573,651 so far. If all buyers choose the "Split Evenly" option, that works out to a little under $82,000 per party. That seems like a pretty good haul, considering they're all 3-year-old indie games. I also
