The Kingdom of Altar represents the altarians, (they win the elemental war of magic in GC2 lore and go on to rule the planet), the third race the Drath are also in GC2 having been driven of there planet by the alterians. The Mithra or something like that was broken into fragments and may be the elemental crystals, also the reason there is magic (dark energy in /gc2 research tree) available to the races on Altar.
I bounght the game for digital download in the UK, it was a must have for me and I bought it at the start of the beta. I do have to agree about the price though especially if you only want digital download. I can understand the extra cost for sending a boxed version, still I don't feel the game wasn't worth it or anything just saying you may have a point.
The new mana system will clearly require a complete rebalance of current spells as well as allowing lots of new options for spending mana both on spell casting and other things. The idea sounds good but the devil is in the detail, sure they will get it right in the end but such a major overhaul is going to require more than one balance pass I think.
It's a simple abstraction based on the idea that a population of x needs y food per turn. Food represents surplus food in the game so if it shows you have 1 food that means you have 1 extra food per turn that your population doesn't consume. So you can only build improvements that let you expand your population like houses when you have surplus food to support them and they will then use up that food every turn so your surplus goes down when you build one. Just remembe
Actually Sethai I think your idea for non-linear mana regeneration is a good one, although my first reaction was why over complicate things I can see your point.
Thanks for that tip on (1), I hadn't considered that.
Yes what Rath3130 said except i think the last folder is Units. They are in a sub folder of your my documents anyway. the idea being you don't lose mods, units, saves if you need to reinstall.
With a global mana system, we gain the ability to have strategic spells be caster independent. It also opens up a lot of very important game elements for the AI as well as the player in terms of making spells have more "interesting choices" such as: Children of sovereigns become crucial because unlike imbued heroes, they naturally have essence (so there is no imbue cost associated). It also opens up the possibility
1 - I agree, it is a problem you don't always know what the city produces best to start with I suggest a summary of what it produces. 2 - Good idea. 3 - Don't really think this is a big issue for me. 4 - Agreed 5 - I think you are wrong here I think the changes will make magic more instead of less important but we will have to wait and see. 6 - Very true I think we've all had those issues.
Quoting Delmoroth, reply 10 You seem to think people like stardock because they are smaller than blizzard(another good company) or something. The truth is that the only thing their size might have to do with it is that they really can't just sit back and keep reselling the same game with a few graphics upgrades. They more or less have to generate something new or no one is going to look twice at them.<b
Quoting econundrum1, reply 9 By the way the demon now has Arcane Doom which is much better the minion was nerfed because it needed to be very badly. Yes the vigiliant minion was way way too powerful... and nuking the entire battlefield is "LATE GAME". The Stone Golem is also too powerful since his spell can strike anywhere on the battlefield. A group of 5 elementals should n
I agree underneath the bugs is a great game trying to get out, I'm still having great fun now even though it has some issues 1.08 was a great patch too but unfortunatley the hotfix introduced some new issues and since I had beta's turned on I don't have the saturday patch that fixed the later issues anyway. Still I lookforward to each and every update Stardock issue and I say this, stick with it guys in 5 years time people will remember the game Elemental becomes, not all the problems
By the way the demon now has Arcane Doom which is much better the minion was nerfed because it needed to be very badly.
Actually I was in the beta the new patch is nothing like any of the beta's. 1.08 was actually not a bad patch unless you had a lot of mods and as long as you started a new game. It seems later hotfixes have added a few nasty bugs but not that many. I think they will learn from this to be very careful with QA of hotfixes and to issue a disclaimer that the new patch may not work with all current mods and old save games.
I wouldn't bother with anything more than tinkering with mods at this point, wait until at least 1.1 if I where you. As they are currently modifying major game systems I would expect some mods not to work as intended with this build.
Well in the current latest version which I would say is still better than the pre 1.08 versions I have seen the following very annoying bugs. 1 - summoned units special attacks always miss. 2 - the vanishing mana on my children after battles. These where not in 1.08 but introduced in one of the later patches. I'd be more careful about QA on hotfixes in future I think.
I have an almost Identical setup to the OP and the game does still crash about once every 4 hours or so, frankly I can live with that it's less than Dragon Age and Starcraft 2.
I Know the portrait issue was there since release just wondered if they'd noticed since it hasn't been fixed yet and seems like it would be simple. By the way don't know if it's been said already but the description of green thumb is wrong; it gives 2 food at the start, not +2 food per turn (which is good because if it did give +2 per turn it would throw the balance way off).
I actually enjoyed a full game on the unmodified 1.08 yesterday, have to say it was much more like a proper release and was actually very fun to play. May not get a chance to try these new modifications as we have a guest coming to stay but good job Stardock Elemental is starting to feel a lot better. By the way has anone else noticed a bug with mounted unit portraits?
On the blink / teleport change if you don't like that you could very simply MOD it back to the old value.
know whether or not the idea of having more powerful children works for the game, of course, so if it doesn't then just ignore me.
I think it kind of distracts from the idea that you are the most powerful mage in your kingdom if your children start out a lot more powerful than you. Of course you can probably make them more powerful as they level up. When they change the magic system it won't work in the same way in anycase Essence will become boolean.
+ Gildar deposit now seeded near starting location
You missed this though + Gildar deposit now seeded near starting location That will make the early game potentially quicker.
Is anyone else sitting here hitting refresh on Impulse.
It's not a major bug bear for me really, but yes I do think their are too many one only or one per civilization buildings and not enough general improvements overall.
