Those magic items are not free. How many armies can you make with that?

I'm also curious about the ETA of that patch :). I guess I'll just train my modding skills 'til then. (Damn having nothing to do at work :p)
Hi Elemental modders, I'd really like to get into the moding process, and I'd like to create class-dependent ability trees for champions. Now, here's the thing: I need the game to check if the hero has access to the ability (pre-requisite are mets) before making it available. How can I do that? And more generally, are there the equivalent of "if" statements in the XML tags the game is using? Also, I'd like to create two things: -an item with a particle e
I have great expectations for this patch and the future of this game. I'm among the vocal ones when it comes to criticism, but I will also do as much as I reasonably can to make this game go forward for the next few days. The balancing, in particular, will do a lot of good to this game.

Starcraft 1 was released in an extremely good and polished state. Hell, so did Warcraft 2. But anyway, finished games are sometimes released by much
ah, and for a Champion, just buy 20 defensive amulets or so and equip em on one Champion. Should up the survivability. Then add attack amulets and speed rings when possible. (I know, equipping more than possible game items is broken, but hey it works for now ) and also, it costs thousands of gold ... so its not like your getting it on the cheap
Or use the same gold to produce much more powerful units and let go of ch
As far as I know, nothing about Elemental thus far has violated the Gamer's Bill of Rights, except, perhaps, that a game should be finished before it is sold.
That's a pretty big "except", in my opinion.
Just look at Empire Total War. They never actually DID make it playable (and it, unfathomably, got astoundingly good reviews).
E:TW was a complete game; everything was there, it's ju
Galactic Civilizations II didn't have tool tips on release. Let's keep some perspective here. Some people want to have console level production values in a game made exclusively for the PC in a niche genre.
Most of the games I have mentioned belong to niche genre. X3:TC, AoW 2:SM... and SoaSE too, actually. Or hey, Victoria 2 (wow, Paradox released a functional game on day 0. Hell is freezing over.)
Civ 5 will certainly trump elemental upon release. The game is building upon an already successful game model that hasn't been truly fresh and new since the time of Civ 1.
No. Civ 5 will be a major change, unlike anything Civ has ever been. It's really a different game, probably to avoid being competition to Civ 4 (which is a solid game with a massive amount of mods).
you sure about this? can you link an official thought on it? There will be a patch tomorrow - and read the SD badge, baby...official enough for you?
It's a faaaaaaaaake (Star Trek reference).
The UI (the whole thing, not just the buttons: the way the game is presented) is totally unfinished and unintuitive, a lot of the content is bland and barely there (spells, abilities), the maps are not really random, and the balance is poor. In other words: it's a good beta. But not a finished game. The bugs are just another layer of frustration over the large number of issues. I'm not trying to be insulting to Stardock, a company I had immense respect for after GalCiv 2 and SoaSE. Bu
I had that one too (with a different name). I looked for a Kage Bunshin power in their character sheets, to no avail.
Nearly every game adds new features in the expansions, does that mean the original was "unfinished"?
Nearly every successful game has all its core features at release. As it is, it doesn't stand the comparison to day 1 Age of Wonders 2, or day 1 HoMM V, to give a few examples. A lot of the core mechanics are broken or very sketchy. That's what "unfinished" means. An example: X3:Terran Conflict was pretty much a finished game at release. There were a few issue
The problem is, why would anyone want a champion rather than a stack of doom? They cost roughly the same, but the SoD is more powerful. And why shouldn't champions lay waste to whole armies? It's either that, or make them buff the armies they're with. Or let us attach them to units, warhammer 40k-style, and let the champion buff the unit.
The game is 'unfinished' because it's planned to have multiple content enhancing releases over the coming year+.
Content patches should be extras: thing that make a finished game that's self-sufficient even more awesome and to extend its life, not to make the transition between a beta and a final release. That's disrespectful of the customers. I don't know what happened here, and I don't feel the need to flame Stardock for this (the reviews will most likely be quite negative wh
Okay, I had the weirdest bug: sometimes my armies will start moving in a random direction, when I made sure they would stay where they are and that they didn't have current orders. This is very frustrating.
Wait for at least 2 major content patches, so 60 days. If Stardock holds their promises, it should start becoming very interesting around then.
Elemental beta 4 was very rough and a lot of people were understandably worried that the final version would be a nightmare. I am pleased to report that they really did finish the game and it's in pretty good shape.
I have to disagree with that statement. I think that a quite large number of people do not see the game's state as "good enough for release", including myself. I think it needs at least 2-3 months as it is. The base is very good, but it's totally unfinished,
I agree with quite a few of the points you've listed here. Well, not all of them (the archers missing the dragons don't bother me if they're low-level archers with a basic training), but overall this is good and constructive (if harsh) criticism.
-I wonder if it's a bug, but quite a few of my summoned units have 2-3 mana. Which isn't bad in itself, but they can cast spells from my spell list! However, with their low intelligence, well, it's not really worth it. The bear being able to cast a fireball is a bit weird. I'm not against the concept for a druid-like character... but should every 1st level animal companion be able to cast spells? The imp being able to cast a fireball isn't s
Wow, my first topic on the forum. Let's try to make a good impression. First of all, thanks for all the work you've been putting in this game and the effort to get this game released to us Beta Testers early. It's much appreciated. I must say there are quite a lot of good things in this game, although I seriously think it's been released a couple months too early. It's playable and enjoyable, but doesn't feel like it's whole yet. But well, let's talk about the g
Tactical combat is boooring.
This would be a lot, lot better with: -Better animations. This is way too close to a 3D Dwarf Fortress. It doesn't look like a fight, it looks like filling forms with a sword. -More variety in the armies. I mean, for now, you have a choice between a few mundane armors, and a few mundane weapons. Where's my paladin? Where's my witch? Where's my elephant rider? My opinion is: Elemental cou
Actually, we could use more flavorful/fantasy units -and not just summoned. More beasts, for instance. Or elite knight with high-end stats (much higher than the standard ones).
I live in Detroit, and when I looked at the window, it was nighttime... except it was barely 7 PM. Scary storm alright... (Hey Frogboy, care to share some dev's with CCP? Looks like they've got problems with the notion of "listening to their customer base when the same customer base pays 150 dollars a year per account to play their game". Problems you don't seem to have, I must admit.)
