Along the same lines as unpassable borders for war ships, maybe ships can have their own radius of effect such that other ships can not pass or maybe have to at least end their turn there before proceeding next turn. I guess you're relationship to the other group could be a factor, ie. friendlies are ok. So all ships have to stop at an opponents's ship and depending on the relationship, it may continue on its next turn or be unable to cross. This way you can protect your borders and even set up

i never noticed this circle, is it always around the constuctors or do i need to click on it or something?
This is a great thread, until this very moment i thought that my econ capital was a world economy multiplier. I guess its still good to build ASAP like I do, but later in the game its less effective, this means that you can rebuild on that tile and not lose too much money. or just leave it as is. And I'm glad to know that my others capitals DO works that way. So if i understand this correctly... the planet you build the economic capital on DOES NOT need any economy buildings
Thanks, i was trying to get a whole bunch of planets completely inside the radius of an econmic starbase. so its good to know i only have to get a part of it in. Maybe i just havent noticed because of the color the terrans use, but how do i get the constuctor to show me its preview circle? or is it always aropund it and i never noticed?
can colors be changed mid-game?
I was wondering, is there a way to preview what the influence area of a star base will be before you make one. Like by clicking on the constructor first? I ususally have to save, build, restart and then move the constuctor before i'm happy with the location. This would be when I'm trying to get a few planets inside of the radius of an economic start base, so that I can get the most out of the production upgrades. Also, just how much of a planet has to be inside of the colored radius for
I'm still on my first game. Playing small map have 2 remaining opponents (1 surrendered)on challenging I believe. I've played another 4x game in the past and I always find myself trying to have the best economy. I like to be stonger in the late game, of course i wind up having a weak military for a long time. Since i'm quite new at this game I was wondering if i may be over doing it. I'm currently making over 400 BC (about half from my 10 trade routes) a week and i have like 20,000 BC
i forgot something too... Visible battle damage to your ships. By this I mean that after a battle some of the jewelery you added will be missing, making the ship appear "broken" and as it repairs those pieces come back as they were before. Or pehaps adamamaged ship will lose some of its fight ability rather than just its hit points, as in having a damaged rail gun or something.
Some of my ideas will be similar to or repeats of some other ideas, but then we can see just how popular the idea is. ~ Wave Motion Gun, thought of that one before reading it. But i'm only kidding. ~ The added diplomacy ideas, many are very good, a)to be able to close your borders except for treaties. which will add to your desire to build influence starbases. b)be able to politely ask for AI opponenst to remove their ships from your territory or at least from X-parse
I was just wonder at what point everyone choses their means of victory. That is, do you wait and see how the game unfolds after a few years and take the best route, or do you choose before the game starts? I'm playing my first game still and everything is going well. I have the weakest military of the 3 remaining races but i have the tech and the economy (20,000 BC gaining like 400bc/week) to change that quickly. I also have good/neutral relations with my neigbors and control like 40% o
ok, but if i build 1 farm, my population cap will be about 10B. so 2 entertainment centers will keep the peeps happy. So for the same population would 1 later improvment, like the stadium, do the same job as 2 earlier ones? And it takes time to research to and then to build those Global Civ ones. What do you do in the mean time? I mean i see why you dont want to use up valuable tiles. I really dont want to have to build anything to improve moral isf i can have another factory or bank. I
I have read a few places where people have said that as a rule of thumb, a planet should have 2 moral improvements for each farm, to keep the people happy. My question is, WHICH improvement is that refering to? I mean if i build 2 entertainment networks and one farm and I'm ok, then wouldnt i need just 1 Galactic Stadium to have the same effect? Or will 2 stadiums mean that i can have 2 farms OR that i can upgrade the farms and stay even?
Its not really an exploit. Each race has a nack for something the others don't. For the Terrans, its trading. But what the AI gives up in tech trading it gains somewhere else. Others races might be exploiting me in another area. And think of it this way, once you trade and get a great deal on some techs, thas pretty much it since you'll be ahead of the AI after that, there wont be much else to get from them. And you will have to keep up with the diplomatic techs or lose your advantage.<
i was trying to find a way to combine a colony ship and a freighter so i could sell those good citizens.
See, i didn't know that either. I just bought the Gold edition, am I correct in assuming that i dont have to down load any of the patches that came out before that? So that i only have to get the one that just came out. Thanks
Oh yeaaaaa. Wasn't it great making the computer controled Mycon ship shoot itself by using that little UFO looking ship(Ariou??)?
I've only played star control i on my Sega Genesis. Remember thinking it was the greatest game that could ever be made. But the computer opponent was WAY to easy. I love the references to the old games found in these forums.
I'm very very new to this but i dont think its that much of an exploit. The large ship still has to outlive the many smaller ones. the one hit point rule only comes in where theres mutual destruction and the attcaker gets to keep his ship. Apparently though, theres a bug that gives the attacker full HP. The attacker will have an advantage, call it surprise, or initiative but if both sides get to fire, which did away with the old REAL exploit, then i think its ok that the attacker gets
Ok thanks that definitely helps, right now i think we're at warm and fuzzy. I'm assuming then that "alliance" will appear on the trade screen where the treaties are. ?
Ok how would a carrier really differ from having a capital ship in a fleet with a bunch of fighters? Besides the graphics of it. Another thing with the fighters just being "weapons" is that when they are destroyed it wouldnt affect the HP of the ship the launched from, there would just be a loss of crew which doesnt figure into the battle. But i guess there could be a modulke you add to the ship to give you drones and i guess point defences would be the defence against them. An
Can someone tell me how to ask an AI to create an alliance. I went so far as to gift the alliance tech to one and i just cant find where i would even make the offer to form an alliance. As I'm in my very first real game beyond the demo, I'm just trying to do things to see what happens. Oh and get this, the Drengin gets this planet with a 33 quality!!! 33, my best is an 11 and i have only one of those. A 33. Is this just lucky on their part or do they have some kind of specie
Ok thanks for the answers, but now i have another question: WHY whould i want to join an empire and what do you mean "one that i will like"? Like do i have to belong to a group to play and post scores? Also whats the advantages of having 3 characters? So i can post 3 different scores? if i replay with a character will i have to overwrite the previous score instaed of saving both?
Sure i did. Built nothing but space ships too. Actually built star fighters for my Star Wars action figures (yea I'm dating myself here). So that when they got hit the ship could take real damage. Now THAT would be a pretty cool addition to this game. That is, having some of the pieces you added to the ship disappear as battle damage. To return one-by-one as the ship regains hit points. So after a fight, you're really cool capital ship will LOOK like its been though hell.
Hi I'm new to this just having gotten the Gold edition. I'm wondeting about the Metaverse, specifically what it meant when it asked me for an Empire and Characters. Di i need top join a group or create one? ANd by characters does it mean that i can play as a different one each time i play a metaverse game? how does my "character" differ from my nick name on here? Another question, how is a Metaverse game different from a regular game i play besides it being posibly recored on the s
