Agreed with everything in OP, and Thanks to stardock for reading and responding. I'm a little alarmed to read SD response about tactical battles. Indeed they don't need to be Elemental:TW but need to be interesting enough to make other parts of the game compelling (unit design, and gaining warfare & tactical magic tech). Not necessarily needed but ideally, it would have more interesting tac combat than e.g. AoW2 or MoM. IMO it cur

At this point, one would think that only idiots, ignorants or daredevils would dare to buy in release day (or preorder/prebuy).
i preordered because i loved gc2. i don't particularly regret it, and i hope that SD can use my $$ well, and in the end they'll polish this into an awesome game. Rome TW comes
Quoting pexx421, reply 4I never did like the fact though, that in fall from heaven two, your stacks square off, and randomly chooses which unit of yours fights which of theirs, and you lose your nursed heroes and powerful units without having much say so. That sounds frustrating enough to suck the fun right out of the game.
it's not accurate, though. You can choose what units to attack with in what order, just

it seems like if his combat speed is between 0 and 1, it might appear as "0" in the unit designer UI. I had units like that in the 1.01 build - he was Ok, still be able to either move or attack once each term.

*** spoilers *** Port Hope refers to the land of Tarth, i.e., the folks who gave you Archers and asked you to fight Trolls. Yeah it is confusing that they call it that. When you sail back, and you may actually have to land a unit off your boat to go talk to them, they'll give you a few more archers and another boat. If you also go talk to the miners they'll give you a little something too, i think it was some supplies. Sorry if I confused you in my p

Yeah there is a campaign log, but at least in 1.01 it's under a "Campaign" log tab separate from the "Quests" tab. *** Spoilers *** The point of the boat seems to be to go inform the other kingdoms and see if they'll support you. The log suggests that you send a couple guys on the boat clockwise to talk to each kingdom, while the main part of your army works west through the wastelands. *** Even more spoilers *** It is important to event

I haven't yet found how to enable special abilities on any of my units. Can someone give an example? So far I've only gotten as far in the tech tree as squads, longbows, warhammers. I see how the normal gear is either fast (swords) or heavy (maces) or ranged, which is a pretty good base. Now I was imagining that we can equip the elite troops with secondary gear like pila, caltrops, pikes, lances, magic doodads which enable special abilities -- is that the case?

i often get an odd "hiccup" (screen and music briefly freeze) at the end of tactical battles, and twice it has crashed

Playing as Ythril, in the late patch today [0.92?], I couldn't build riders even though I had the Warg resource hooked up. Because, in the unit designer, both "Horse" and "Warg" equipment actually required the Horse resource.

my laptop is a netbook -- Caesar III, and Battle for Wesnoth run well, and HoMM III is ok other than the cutscene movies. I was hoping release version of Elemental has a Netbook friendly mode, but the betas haven't been. Oh, and how could i forget: Master of Orion II.

First, I hired Joffrey and his friends. (There is also a bug where the tip shows you too low of a price when you hire a whole group of adventurers -- but that is reported in a seperate thread). For some reason two of those adventurer pals had zero combat strength. Then, I took a Escort Noble Lady to the Estate quest. Next, I tried to sneak through a swamp full of those monsters that look like alligators, the ones that have a variant called 'Coast(monster) leader' with ab

When I founded my fourth city using a group of the Sov and two swordsmen, the tip said it would cost 100 G, but it in fact cost 300. Earlier in the same game, the second city founded by the Sov alone, the tip said 0 G, but in fact it cost 100.
I don't think I've ever torn down a workshop or merchant as it's detrimental to do it. You can only build 1 of those buildings per level. You shouldn't have to tear down existing buildings unless you've decided to go in a very different direction.
Thanks for the replies. Here is my reasoning quantitatively, in case it's helpful. I will be interested to see how your AI solves this equ

> Why would you knock down workshops and merchants? I definitely tear down a lot of workshops, it seems like there's plenty of forests around to build lumbermills. In any city which isn't totally specialized, i've been razing the older, less space efficient buildings. I agree that in a city that was specialized and totally dedicated to gilders, one might fill up on Markets and also keep in the Merchants; but in that case wouldn't you likely tear
