That could be a good compromise. I'm not really sure what their vision is for SP. What about other games like GalCiv II? I was never too into that one in particular so I'm not sure how balanced the different races were or if there was one that was more powerful in reality if not by design. I just don't see what purpose having one faction stronger than others serves. The storyline for the game being what it is, I don't think having one one group be

To me it's just a filler for research overall, No. (I'll probably never raze a city., if I messed up I'll reload.)
In a way, yeah. They throw fortification into the same tech though and you'll likely use that at some point if you go to war. I've never tried it myself but I imagine fortifying troops could be useful, especially if you're being in
The only real important thing in this game is that the ai is challenging and plays the game well. Master of Magic is a prime example of a game WITHOUT balance and has lasted the test of time as the greatest Fantasy strategy wargame of all times. It had NO MULTIPLAYER feature and that is what allowed it to be as great as it is. Multiplayers ruin games they do not make them better. When you start adding more and more human elements to games that
I've already said I see no reason for clan support. I've never been in any kind of multiplayer clan so it is not an important feature to me. I disagree very much on your other point. If they will bother to include an MP feature, it ought to have balance. It doesn't have to be a perfect balance, but it should be generally balanced. Unless a particular faction is *meant* to be extremely powerful in comparison to others, it shouldn't be. A good example would be Lord of the
It makes sense to me. Razing a city includes destroying and burning of huts, homes, and libraries..yes, that is simple enough. But in many cases it will also include tearing down fortifications and salting the earth as it were and that requires some understanding of how these concepts work.
Quoting Jarenko, reply 47 Besides that, this was about faction balance. While it IS possible for Portugal to take over the world, you can hardly claim that Portugal is on par with other factions overall. It is not. Looking over multiplayer games, it is always the same few countries in the lead. Perhaps you are playing with the same people which would explain why you see the same countries? Also, the goal of EU

Games like Europa Universalis are not balanced in MP because they are based on history. History is not balanced. No matter how you twist it, Portugal will never go toe to toe with France and yet both are viable "factions" if you will. <br /
I would like to weave some essence and channel some of my shards power into creating a weapon, perhaps even a weapon of mass destruction. Can I do that?

Are shards a resource that can be trade? I could see that being a powerful incentive to another kingdom. Cutting off the trade of a certain type of shard.
I have to say that I don't see a need for this and that is coming from someone with a major MP emphasis. Clans, ladders and such are maybe best organized outside the game IF a need arises. Will Elemental become a major MP franchise? It is possible but I don't think it will fill that particular niche. MP balance is important in a game like Elemental. Games like Europa Universalis are not balanced in MP because they are based on history. History is not balanced. No matter
I think a lot of us are running on the hope - at least - that the game would be moddable enough that someone could make a mod based and balanced around MP. I am myself in the multiplayer should be first and foremost camp, but I do understand the developers are of another mindset. That is fine, but it'd be great if they just left the door open for the MP community to do something with this excellent looking product.
There will be multiplayer but the game is not going to be balanced for it if it takes away an inkling from the single player solo experience. I personally can't wait for all the MPer whines when the game is released and this and that isn't in their favor. lol I love a game company that doesn't cater to the multiplayer crowd who does nothing but scream balance balance balance. I hope the game is lopsided as hell in the single player game and ther
well, on the other hand, "village spamming" for food IS actually realistic. We have swaths of farmland and that's far away from cities, you know?
That is true, but if most of the world is barren it wouldn't and shouldn't work in Elemental.

I must ask. Is there any particular purpose to the way city building works? I do enjoy the aesthetic side to it that it allows you to customize cities somewhat and prevents them from all being mirror images. Is there any strategic value to how you place certain buildings?
One has to wonder though given the general state of the world if part of the challenge ought to be surveying the land and building your kempire based on what you have at hand. It's what I'd expect nations to do after such a world wide disaster. That probably comes at the expense of choosing what kind of game you want to play though. . . I somewhat fancy the idea of a particular city becoming powerful and influential due to its unique access to vast farmlands or magical
Right now what is the main criteria for founding a new city? So far I've been looking for resources and using that as my main condition for putting another one down. I like the idea of cities forming some strategic layer. With the way the map is and its natural features the strategic potential of the map is huge, especially when you throw in spells. I do not like the idea of cities being spammed for research or gildar purpos
This happened to me too. I have a creeping suspicion the little spiders near my city were doing it. Do monsters attack each other?
