While we are at it, have you seen the PC GAMER "article"? -> Elemental’s disastrous launch: stay well away I don't think that I must comment on this writing. Gees. I hope Brad is keeping a list of all the review sites that are stabbing him in the back and makes a mental note to NOT let them review any future Stardock releases. After

Out of curiousity, what is it that you people find enjoyable about the game in its current state? I'm mostly in the "It has potential" camp but some people seem enthralled with it out of the box. Where's the allure?
I too appreciate their hard work. If not for companies like Stardock and Paradox, the kinds of games I want to play would never get made. I don't think that "review" is an example of anything more than someone trying out Elemental and realizing that although it is playable, it is not yet a game.
I'm not positive but I'm fairly certain at the point I'm at in the game (~turn 100ish or so) I could just mass produce mace wielding soldiers and wipe everyone out.
I'm having the same experience. I'm not really sure WHY the AI declared war on me other than they wanted my shinies. The problem is they never sent any troops. Some soldiers did enter my territory but they never attacked anything. They also left one of their cities precociously unguarded!
I'm not sure why but sometimes in tactical battles my soldiers walk and other times they just instantly appear in another tile. Also sometimes my spells have animations and other times they just make a noise. What gives?
I can't wait to see a change list.
From what I've seen so far though tactical battles in Elemental are hardly Total War material. A total war battle can easily go 10-20 minutes as you try to get troops into formation, move them into range for battle and have them slug it out. In Elemental I havent seen a battle last longer than a few minutes. It's not too hard to move your troops forward a couple spaces and have them slug it out. From what I've seen so far (limited) there isn't a whole lot of strategy in
Wait for the day 0 patch at least and see if that addresses any of your issues. I am equally concerned about the games state but I'm trying to hold my judgment and concern back until at least that point.
Can you turn off the game creating new soldier types for you? I'd prefer to just make my own as I go along.
Very strange! And I will hold my tongue. :) I will wait to see what the first update is like and go from there.
Are you sure you didn't get a pioneer? Its not added to your stack but is wandering the coastline north of the city somewhere. I think you can found a second city there and build troops from there.
No, no one has been pwned. We're at the stage where people are figuring out if they like the game or not. It's not really fair to properly assess what the game is at this point until you get your hands on the patch. Wait til then to make your conclusion. :)
This kinda worries me. With the slashes made to MP for the sake of stronger SP gameplay, a weak AI is not an option. In my test game, Relias declared war on me for no reason. I figured, it's okay - we live in brutal times. But then his attacks on my city consisted of lone champions (is that the right term) attacking without support. They weren't especially good at it either.
I've never heard of a dual monitor. lol!
Victoria 2 did have some serious balance and design issues that emerged later on.
I had that happen to me too. Some cute merchant chick. I decided to marry her so I grabbed her and stuck her in my city. On the next turn I noticed her over in some field a ways from town and figured after refusing my proposal she ran away so I hired her again and brought her back to town. Then I noticed I had two and yet a third one approached the town from the north! If these are triplets about to argue over my sovereign hes in for one hell of a night.
I've spent some time playing it now. I really want to wait for the first patch before I announce my feelings about the game too strongly, but so far I like it. It's a fun diversion. I will say that I'm expecting more than just a little diversion from this game. :)
Civ 5 will certainly trump elemental upon release. The game is building upon an already successful game model that hasn't been truly fresh and new since the time of Civ 1. To pretend that Elemental in his rough fetal state is going to somehow be better than a game that has 20 years of ideas and experience behind it is rather foolish. Elemental can be something special given time, but from what I have seen I don't think it will ever be the top game of its genre or be esp
I think (constructive) criticism is more useful for the devs than praises.
Definitely. Those who just troll about the game are no worse than those who shower it with unearned praise.
You can zoom out at least. That way you can see where your enemy is. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]
People are disappointed because in a game like this random maps keep things fresh. Once you know the layout of the map exploration becomes mostly pointless. Yes, you will still explore for resources and goodie huts but its not the same. They could simply have unbalanced maps but people may not like it when they start a game and they're on a poor piece of land while their neighbor has access to two shards. I think Frogboy said you can randomize the maps if you take the s
Well to be honest I think reporting game issues discreetly is a disservice to the community and should not be encouraged. If it hurts their sales, its a lesson learned. Its pretty much out there that the release version of the game is of questionable quality. That's not meant as a slight so please don't go into a fanboy uproar :p
If I understand it right, in Civ 4 terms you have the same map shapes - continents, forests, mountains, etc. but the resources and goodies are what is randomized.
There are fanboys who would defend this game if it crashed every turn (it doesn't) and there are people who would attack it viciously despite it being a fun game (it is). I voiced concerns the last few weeks about the state of the game and was basically told to STFU because I didn't know what I was talking about (not by Stardock). With those two extremes in mind, you have to remember the forum is made up of Stardock customers whose concerns about
