Edit: Sorry, I just realized that you were talking about SC2... But I still think that game speed settings are a good idea for Elemental.
When you create a game there's a "pacing" setting in the lower right which I don't think actually does anything yet. But Stardock does have the right idea.

I'm always amused by people complaining that a game that's meant to be fast paced (and never gave any indication otherwise) is.. fast paced. It's okay to not like fast paced games, but you can't really trash SC2 for doing it because that's exactly how it's meant to be. It's not meant to appeal to (predominantly) TBS gamers. :P
1) If your Sovereign dies, it's game over. However, if your Sovereign has essence, he can "escape" to a city at the permanent cost of some essence, so he can do this only a limited number of times. There was some speculation that on defeat, there's a certain percent chance that he'll just die outright and not "escape", but I don't believe it was ever confirmed (or denied). 2) Children are basically Champion units. They can be imbued to use magic and wear equipment, so are stronger tha
Well.. it's a bit different from Warcraft 3. I'm guessing you haven't played the original Starcraft from your post. The two biggest changes in gameplay are economy and heroes. In WC3, you have your gold mine, send x peasants in, and you're done. In SC2, you have mineral patches which behave more like forests in WC3 in that there are a bunch of them and you build workers to harvest them - and you need many more workers. The second resource in SC2, Vespene Gas, works kind of like the gold mine
No. In fact you don't need the DVD at all. Once you register the game, you can download the whole thing from your battle.net profile page. Blizzard sells digital versions directly from their store as well.
Ahh good point, I completely forgot about that. Thought it was cool when I saw the "Download client" link on my account page after registering, but was too in a hurry to play to remember. :P Thanks everyone for confirming no CD needed :)
I played some Mario Galaxy 2 Up to 106 stars!!! Woohoo!!!
This has to be a reference to Starcraft 2 somehow. Galaxy.. well, Starcraft is set in space! And 2, well that's obvious! 106 stars? Gotta be the campaign achievement points. We're onto you, man! :P
1) It has an offline mode, which won't record your achievements, etc. I'm not exactly sure how it works since I was online when I played, but it's there. 2) No such thing, they don't care. Like SD, the registration is tied to your battle.net account, there's no "activation" on install. 3) It's a 12gb install, which I assume copies everything including cinematics.. but I haven't tried without the disk. 4) I don't think there's been anything too official, but I wouldn't
It's not like nobody thought that SC2 would get cracked. Oh noes! Anyway, Tridus said everything I would have.
I think there are several examples in the past that showed that the mods are more fun that the original game.
I haven't seen one.. ever. DoTA might be a notable exception. If you're talking about FfH2, it's a very low production values mod (yay for stolen art from a bunch of other games).
They've been working crazy late hours over the weekend and last week. This week they've started to go home at normal times though (when Frog posted they weren't in crunch mode anymore).
9) Damage types - heard this may be planned but haven't heard anything in a while
They are already in and functional, just not reflected in the UI yet.
I think these screenshots from IGN posted on July 21 will just about answer all your questions: http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/14295360/elemental-war-of-magic-/images/elemental-war-of-magic--20100721030704344.html?page=mediaFull <a href="http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/14295360/elemental-war-of-magic-/images/elemental-war-of-magic--2010
There is a rather large difference between an online tournament and an offline tournament. Just ask Blizzard, they use a special version of WoW that is LAN enabled for their World Championship and I believe a similar method is in place for Starcraft II. Having to run everything through Battle.net automatically killed 90% of the Starcraft Tournaments, because they were played at major LAN events. We're not talking about Corporate Sponsored events that are funded, we're talking about a s
And how many of those were LAN Tournaments? There-in lies the problem.
What problem? A tournament is a tournament. Who cares if it's LAN or not? SC2 beta had a ton of tournaments during the half a year it was up. It's a non-issue.
As I inferred, this process is not detailed and is subjective. Blizzard are not selecting which maps are charged for, they've just placed themselves in the direct position of determining which maps are allowed to cost money.
I doubt you'll get it on the street date. However, if you pre-ordered the box version, you will still get access to the digital download as soon as it's released. So, even if the box doesn't get to you on launch day, you'll just be able to download it.
if I understand Stardock's policy (correct me if I'm wrong), the online registration is not strictly required, it's only required if you want to update.
Indeed that's correct, and the same thing I said. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of CyrusNunn's statement when he implied anyone who does "online registration" is not a "legit developer". Of course now he changed his story to constant online connection, rather than online registration, but that's also common
their recent real-name-on-the-forums bullsh*t means that they're off my list as a legit developer.
Which they've quickly reversed, by the way. Curious about the online registration rant. Stardock requires it to get updates (including the day0 update). Are they off your list as a legit developer as well?
I also have decided to pass on this and I'm very glad after seeing the horror stories on their website about not being able to play the Single Player game due to battle.net connectivity issues. ugh.
It's pretty common to have launch day issues with any online service. I haven't gotten the chance to try for myself, but, it's not like it's not going to be fixed ASAP if it's a big problem.
I would love Elemental to have a system like this.
Depending on how robust modding turns out to be, it might still be possible :)
Yep. Like it or not, LAN is getting pretty antiquated and fewer and fewer games support it. There's a big general shift towards pure online play with social systems, achievements, etc.
Yeah, that didn't work. I was lined up at Future Shop at 11pm, and was already 40th in line. I did get a hat, but no poster. Was up last night playing it. Got today off so I'm playing it again. The campaign mode is awesome.
I was really tempted to take today off, but decided not to. Finally got my tracking number, though, and the box is out for delivery. Woohoo :D
Unit design is very, very, very, very confusing , I know I want archers , and I need archers , so I eventually research bows, and then they can be created. But What other units can I create? Knights? Scouts? Mounted units? Wizrds? There needs to be more clarity and pre-defined units ( gray them out and tell me what I need to research to unlock them). Leave the options to tweak them with new weapons , clothes , armor.
You can create whatever you want to create. In beta 4,
Yeah, probably :P That reminds me, we need Polymorph spells in Elemental. How awesome would it be to turn your Sovereign into a dragon?
You bastard, Tridus :P Have to wait until I'm off work to get my box (overnight delivery, don't fail me now). And man, a lot of misinformation in this thread and it makes me sad. Tridus got some, but:
Third nail was region play.
They've aready said they're looking into ways to allow cross-region play without buying additional copies.
Instead of unofficial ladders, tournaments and competitions, everything needs to be Blizzard-approved.

This is straight from Wikipedia "In terms of square miles conquered, Genghis Khan had been the greatest conqueror of all time -- his empire four times larger than the empire of Alexander the Great." BlackRainZ: "Sometimes smaller is better. At least, that's what I keep being told.." Bonus points for you if you get the reference. You are then a true Stardockian. <br
