I tend to put just about everything near the phase lane... and away from the planet. I suppose you could run by all the buildings and just nuke the planet, but I think most would be more interested in the in buildings.

I like this idea for pirates. Not only would this make them MORE like pirates but it would also stop the pirates from doing the one thing they do now which i think actually hurts the game. The early game seems to be about controlling the pirates in your home system. Basically setting up some defenses at whatever system they're likely to come through and then building up a kill fleet to drive them out of your system... at which point there are no pirates in your home system. <br

agreed... Auto colonize should be postponed at least until all enemy ships that can harm the colony are destroyed. if you've got nothing left but some little ships that can't attack planets, then fine... colonize away... but doing it when the system is full of siege units etc is silly.

One idea that I like about this... and maybe I'm not reading this right, is the idea of allowing the player to effectively customize the race traits for a given empire. For example, if you put big research into fighters and bombers then instead of having focusing on capitalships and etc you'd be entirely focused on carriers and the various things carriers could carry... to the extent that your carrier based empire could go toe to toe with anyone... perhaps because your fighters and

Things you shouldn't copy: 2D playing field. Both Frontier wars and Sins have 2d maps... I know you're not going to ditch this as you're too committed to this already. But you shouldn't have gone this way... Frontier wars got away with it but that was so long ago in gaming time it's not even funny. Um, sins is 3D. Individual grav wells are planar, but ships still move in 3D. The grav wel

The lower 48 is almost the exact same size as the EU in raw land mass figures. The lower 48 states comprises over 9 million sq. miles (alaska is 663,000 sq miles) while the entire EU comprises 3.2 million sq miles. No. The total US land mass including alaska is :5,692,943 square miles. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html The factbook puts it in kilomete

Though i suppose it would be tolerable if the officer idea you mentoioned was implamented and could smart target the enemy ships with the coreect counter, but then whats the point, why not just leave it the way it is and skip the middle man? You neither want nor respect the idea of tactics in an RTS game then... Which fine... though I will point out that in that case you'd probably be better served by a turn based strategy game.

I proposed the Conquest Supply system a while back; not many thought they would be interested, though it was brought to my attention that this should be relatively easy to mod into the game. I'm not interested in mods as they're rarely widely adopted and they have to be widely adopted to matter in MP. So if the devs don't do it, then I don't really care if a third party does it. Personally I think we co

The EU has less land an natural resources, your missing that part of your arguement. Only because of Alaska... I don't think we make "that" much money off of things we get from alaska. The lower 48 is almost the exact same size as the EU in raw land mass figures. Though I grant you have a point there.

Some additional "mode" ideas... some ships might have two or more weapons systems that can only be operational if the others are off line. This would mostly be useful on big capital ships. A given ship might be able to counter fighters and bombers VERY well or other capital ships very well, but not at the same time. Think of it like loading different types of ammo into cannons or something. The fighter ammo would be very low penetration but high splash damage while the anti capital ship weapons

This came from a different thread, but I felt this deserved a new thread because I was going off topic. I've pretty much given up on Sins have tactics of any kind in it. The game simply wasn't built for it. It's pretty much a realtime 4x game... which is fine. Sins will be fun regardless. This is completely untrue. Have you played against a human yet? Have you watched any of the replays? A

You're right, I haven't looked at the US's GDP in ages... it used to be 11... guess that's inflation or something. that only makes the relative difference in production per person wider though. Practically a 60 percent difference because the EU has 60 percent more people in it but roughly the same production.

299 Replies 566,962 Views

I made a big error in my math back there... production difference is 21 percent... I don't know where I got the 72 percent from... again... this isn't relevant to the discussion but I felt like playing with the numbers considering I had them all in front of me...

No, there's no supply limited medical system here and medicines are comparably cheaper in Sweden. If you have socialized medical care, then it is supply limited. In the same way that if the sun is overhead, it's day time. It's a QED situation. I can explain what supply limited means if you don't understand it. But, the doctors are more restrictive. I'm not sure but i think it's the doctor that decides wha

By the way, here in Sweden it's kind of hard to get them. The doctors are quite restrictive then it comes to prescribe happy-pills. It's not like in the USA where 15% of the population is on anti-depressives. The US is restrictive on this issue as well. The only reason they might limit them more in Sweden is that you have a supply limited medical system. Ours is demand limited. That is to say, your system is controlled by how much your governmen

I'd just like to say that fleet formations shouldn't be based upon what's pretty but instead upon what makes the most tactical sense. Wall formations make sense for "presser" units. That is big slow yet powerful units that can crush just about anything. A wall formations should allow for not only a concentration of firepower, but a concentration of point defense and perhaps shields... each ship not only adding it's weapons to the fight but it's defenses in a single wall. <

Have the computer automatically give it to one of the remaining team members. I'm not sure if it should give it to what it thinks is the best or worst player. Obviously, the better player could make better use of the extra resources, but it might be more "fun" to give it to the worst player so he survives for longer... and "maybe" can contribute to the team effort.

what? Tell me you're kidding... 500MB per save is ridiculous. what is that, a memory dump? That just sounds like they're taking everything in memory and throwing it on the disk... textures, active game code, etc... I can't think of any other way you could get to such an inflated size...

Karma, do you have a rebuttal? I don't need one... your own arguments have ironically backed up my position well enough... much like nats striking a windshield at 50 mph... interesting colors but ultimately no real impact on the windshield... comments such as "don't hate the pimp" don't really merit a response... *yawn*
