Just speculating, but i'd bet it's intentional. The Sov customization seems lower because there's now 8 or 9 races and art is being split up between them. There's probably still the same amount of options overall. Islands etc might have been turned off so there's fewer variables to worry about with the random map generator. The inventory/stats screen still exists, you just need to have an item to equip in order to use it (default items don't count.)

same issue, but much less common for me, tactical combat started but with a white screen and UI overlay, I played through the combat by looking for the cursor to change symbols. After a bit of blind fighting all text dissapeared from the UI. after the battle ended, all text was missing from every other screen as well. With some luck I navigated out to the quit screen, quit, and then crashed. Crash dump is here: <a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8709814/Elemental0_90-2010-07-17T

From the research screen, i clicked on a hiergamenon link (I think for 'zealots' or 'teams', something in the Empire troop quality branch) and got a CTD. Playing as a custom Trog faction. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8709814/Elemental0_805-2010-07-02T22-41-29-734.zip
More concerned about this. How good is "doom fire"? Did the person who gets it just win the lottery? The strongest upgrades shouldn't be in this kind of category because they will totally break balance when someone gets lucky with the RNG over everybody else. Getting the random techs right such that they're useful but don't break the game will be tricky.
I think there's some pretty simple game mechanics that could balance this
The Greatest Middle Age battles were interesting and involved great tactical depth specifically because the range of soldiers taking part in the battle were varied. [e digicons]k1[/e] , nice post ikros. It's not balance for balances sake or political correctness, it's for reality's sake. Women tend to be massively under-represented in video games. I mean, look at WoW. Blizzard combined solid gameplay with a lack of the absurd sexulaization that's 'normal' to the genre (some might call it 'boring female sexism') and - as if by magic - the game is popular with both men and women. Go figure.

I'm all for sovereign death in any tactical battle = game over. There's some good ideas around territory and essence loss but I think it's a bit complicated and not very intuitive. Even a non-combat sovereign should still be strong enough to deal with any early game units and by the time your opponents have assassins or raiders then you should have some kind of army or magical defence to counter that. In GC2, if the Korath launch a surprise spore mine attack and take out your homeworld cause

If it's like baldurs gate then units all move and attack in turns but you issue commands in real time. Assume unit speed = actions per turn, so if there's a (S)pider with 6 speed and a (T)roll with 2 fighting a unit of (H)umans with 4 speed, then one turn would involve each unit taking actions (moving, attacking, special abilities) in an order something like: S H S T S H S H T S H S At any time during that round you can issue orders to your units but they won't start m
what happens with the Sovereign's children and their heroes? Do they just disappear?
I'm going from memory here so I might be off, I think what happens is: Sovereing X marries a few children off to Sovereign Y's family. If sovereign Y dies, then faction Y's remaining family (along with territory, armies, heros, etc) are most likely to declare their allegiance to sovereing X since they're related. It gets more complicated if there's

I almost never finish off games of GC2 (or most strategy games) that I'm winning. There's no fun in beating up on opponents once I know that I can. I love austinvn's idea of the conquest-style master quest. The idea option of a final massive confrontation to settle the game is exactly what I want to play for. Ocie1's 'nothing left to loose' gambits is also pretty appealing. Making the mop-up more unpredictable and potentially challenging is all good. I've been thinking f
is it a possibility to see this kind of community content being added to an official patch to help expand and increase the variety of the core game? In the picture below green dots are tiles that I can move to or build on, yellow dots are tiles I can select with the movement cursor but NOT move to or build on (not sure if that's intended behavior?). Red dots are un-selectable. Everything works like I'd expect it to with the mountains but the water is totally wacky. </p

1. It's the same genre and I'd be surprised if there isn't an AoW-esque mod at some point. GC2 has the best AI of any strategy game and I'm sure Elemental will honor that tradition. 3. If you pre-order any time before the end of September you'll be able to get into the beta right away.

Items from different categories (Weapons/Armor/Equipment) of the Unit Design screen are mutually exclusive. For example, equiping the Band of Fortitued in the 'Equipment' category will unequip the Band of Might from 'Weapons' without giving any indication that it happened except for the stat change. Same deal for Scout's/Bandit's gear and any weapon. It'd be nice to have some kind of feedback that equiping item X will remove item Y. Maybe another UI panel that shows all currently equi

I also noticed this and was just playing around with it, I'm pretty sure it's a 3D problem. If I rotate the camera so I'm looking straight down at the map, the click will focus right at the top of the cursor (at the tip of the feather). If I rotate down as close to the horizon as possible, the click will land about half a tile above where it should. [edit] This all happens with the hardware mouse too.
