Yowzers! I'll investigate this and post a fix right away. I'm sure it's something stupid and simple.
BootSkin Pro sets the No GUI Boot flag to being checked. This is necessary to see the BootSkins at all. When the No GUI Boot flag is unchecked, you get the standard Vista boot screen.
Assuming you got the free version using a stand-alone installer, that will be repackaged shortly and made available. Otherwise, you should be able to download a patch from Impulse.
We'll have to investigate the format and how much work it'd take to allow for something like that. It wouldn't make it into the update we're releasing this week, but possibly sometime this year.
Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way to change that back. However, in IconDeveloper go to Tools->Preferences and uncheck "Check file associations at startup." Then open your registry and remove any IconDeveloper keys that you see under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT->.ico->OpenWithList and .ico->OpenWithProgids. I'm making a note to add a "Dissociate IconDeveloper" feature that will go under T

Is this error coming up when you try to apply a dream through the DeskScapes tab under Display Properties? Or when you double-click on a Dream file?

If you're certain that you have tried what was posted here , then please post which language version of Vista you're using, the version number of BootSkin Pro Impulse says you have installed, and the regional and locale settings that you have set under Control Panel->Regional and Language Options in the Location and Administrative tabs. If there is any confusion about any of this, please let us know so we can clarify further. Thank you.
Update: The beta has been transitioned to a live update now since no one complained about their hard drives melting.
I hope this means the boot scheme is different and will allow animation on Win7.
Microsoft has changed the way booting is done with Vista. You get two options: the standard Vista boot with the progress bar (known as GUI Boot) or a static image (No GUI Boot). There is even a standard image that Microsoft has included with Vista called Aurora that you can see if you run msconfig, go to the Boot tab, check the "No GUI Boot" option, and then restart. If there is a safe way to hack the GUI Boot, it hasn't been discovered yet from what I can tell.
This thread was started back in 2005, so AdverseYaw is referring to version 1.x of IconDeveloper. There is no such option in IconDeveloper 2.x, although, it is a possibility in the future.
There has been a new beta released for IconDeveloper. Please try it out! New additions are an IconPackager browser form and a slider for adjusting transparency range when creating an icon from an image. Also removed the ability to save ICL libraries as they're not supported by Vista and barely supported by IconPackager. They can still be opened and the icons in them saved elsewhere.

I need more information about your locale settings to address your particular issue. If you open the Regional and Language Options menu in Control Panel and look under the Administrative tab, what is set as your system locale in the "Language for non-Unicode programs" box?
Yes, a slider to take care of the blended pixels will be added in the next ID update.
Are you absolutely certain you're using BootSkin Pro and not the old BootSkin? I ask because BootSkin Pro should not even allow you to try and use a BootSkin XP file, let alone try to apply it and I don't even think that particular error message exists in the application. Anyhow, if you're using IconDeveloper version 1.x, I don't know how many people around will be able to help you. IconDeveloper was updated earlier this year and is now in version 2.10.045. It fully supports Vista icons. I was able to do what you described with absolutely no problems. I highly you suggest you upgrade to take full advantage of Vista's
