... What? Sure they are not always needed, but how do the other options force them on people (unless the API for Elemental requires it)?
Python is object-oriented. Lua is procedural. Python dictates (ie: forces you to use) a specific object-oriented model, whereas Lua doesn't. Some projects are better written procedurally, rather than using objects - and vice-versa. Lua gives you the power to do both.

I'm going to go w/ recommending Lua. Lua easily integrates into C++. Its faster. It doesn't force objects onto you (objects are nice, but not always necessary). Finally, its easier to understand.
1.1 was pretty stable. I didn't have any crashes, nor were there any major bugs that stopped a game for me. I didn't notice as many OOM errors on the forum either for 1.1. I do find the vanilla game somewhat empty - but the mod community fixed that with ACP, Weapon Mod, and Extended Factions. Murteas Grimoire made the start game more magical by not requiring me to research to gain my first usable spells. The most recent is a beta patch. There

Because it goes so fast, I don't even realize that it went by. So far in the begining of the game as soon as you hit end of turn, it is so fast, not like in Civ V and other games where you wait 20 seconds or more between turns. 1 second inbetween turns is so nice and makes the game go faster.<
I at this point am finding it extremely boring and one dimensional (build up Sov get best weapon clean house) rinse repeat. I think the point of a strategy game is to find new, notable ways to win. Your best bet is to go to the mods and download a few of those, notably
horses?, there are horses in this game? Are you sure?
Ha. They do seem awful rare. Usually, I play kingdom to find wargs and play empire to find horses. Lost libraries are really rare for me, but I see them every once in awhile.
I don't think there is a way. Everything seems to affect next turn - not current turn. For example, I can take away the unit's next turn or even lower their overall AP next turn (by reducing combat speed by a multiplier), but I don't see any way to set an AP cost. I think such a tag is necessary for both abilities and spells.
Novice.
To help mitigate rushing, use Murteas' Grimoire . It gives each player the ability to summon a defensive unit that can't move from its home base. The AI makes use of it, effectively making you at least level up heroes before trying to take on the capital city. It'll also give sovereign's with the combat magic a level 0 combat spell that I've seen them pop off often, Having a guy with 14 attack and 6 defense at the

I think people are misreading. The OP says his unit had ~400/400 where the hermit had 100 defense. It'd be interesting to know the hermit's dexterity/dodge stats. However, why leave a final battle to Auto-Resolve? Its always been a little off. Take the extra couple of minutes to do a tactical battle, surround your sovereign and have him blast the dang hermit with spells.
