I have been thinking about the magic system I would like to see in EWOM. I have NO IDEA how far StarDock has developed their Magic System (HINT HINT) but I thought I'd post my thoughts on how the Magic System should be designed or at least a starting point. I like spells created within a multidimensional array. The dimensions of the array are Element, Type, and Area of Effect. A possible 4th dimension might be duration, but I don't believe it needs its own dimension, it is merely a po

I'd say allow the save/load but totally destroy their score if they are using save load to "undo" mistakes. That way you don't have people posting incredible scores by save/loading their way thru the game, but you allow people to tinker with scenarios if they are not interested in score. Should be pretty easy to save the score in an encrypted file, if you lose a battle, update the score file. (or something similar.) Everybody wins!

If it is in, then when it starts meeting it should be voluntary membership. That was one quibble with Galciv2, once they started meeting you were an assumed member. Granted their should be percs to membership, the downside being you would be "bound" by whatever they decided - or I guess you could "defy the council" and have all civs declare war on you. Personally, although it worked in GalCiv, I don't think I would like the same concept in this game, and if it is in i would like to be

You know what would be hilarious is if it could generate a "tiny island start" as pictured above, and then God appears in the clouds (ala Monty Python and the Holy Grail) and goes on a rant "I make you one of a handful of people in the entire WORLD that can channel but that's not good enough for YOU, oh no, it's 'There's not enough land for my castle! Boo Hoo!' you ungrateful little twerp! Fine I will remake the entire world just so you have enough room to expand! I did a really fine job on t

Maybe an option or a function of difficulty level. If you were playing at Impossible difficulty level, maybe a starting position like the one above (not quite so nasty) would be a possibility.

As soon as I started reading the OP, I started thinking about the betrayal/redemption/rebellion aspects.Wouldn't it be cool for heroes to have ego/honor/charisma. Sure they are not as powerful as you, but they are rubbing shoulders with the troops every day. what if they start thinking of leading some of your army away either to another side or as independents. Maybe they could beome a little more demanding of whatever you are paying them. The possibility to "better offer" another player's he

I would say lack of posts PROBABLY would indicate lack of interest. If it is something people love you will get cheers, and if not you will get jeers. Silence I think is the last thing they want! [e digicons][/e]

If this has already been addressed - sorry! You know how your units in these type of games usually have a little symbol to designate who they belong to, which may or may not be the civilizations flag? Well I think it would be very cool if they let you design your own. Even in multiplayer, how long would it take to send everyone a little packet with each civ's flag(s) and/or symbol(s). Galciv2 provided you with lots of choices, but there is still nothing quite li

I want an online EVE type game with multiple people able to be on the same ship. No, I don't mean like having engineers (although maybe different classes could give your ship different bonuses such as speed, maneuverabilty, etc) but everyone being a gunner or some combat role (although I guess engineers could be like healers in fantasy MMO's?) I would really like to see a game like EVE where you could have 30 people all cooperating to run one huge ship. I guess internet latency might

I am kinda disappointed int he direction the tactical combat seems to be going. I guess I will take a "wait and see" and hope I am pleasantly surprised. For a game like GalCiv2, the continuous combat is cool, but I really wanted to have a little more hands on in the battles, and yeah there is the pause feature but I really envisioned the tactical combat as being turn based. So I would say this is the first thing about the game that I am disappointed to hear. In multiplayer it w
The other benefit it would have is if we could make the whole game play on the cloth map too, people with insanely low end systems could actually play the game. Imagine people playing Elemental on a netbook for instance? Well, GC2 allows you to play only with the tactical view, where everything is icon. Strangely, it makes easier to spot tiny enemy fighters than when using the 3D view. And it allows to have a better view

I'll play with ASCII graphics. The more eye candy the better, but I just want it on my hard drive. So cloth map = no tactical combat I guess? Does that mean combatr is going to be very GalCiv 2 ish where things are going to play out pretty much the same whether you just let it happen or you give orders to units? I hope not, I want the tactical game to make a difference...[e digicons]:pout:[/e] Thanks for the screenie!

Yes elevation needs to be a high priority! (I am so sorry, so very very sorry for the bad pun!) Also in combat - it looks like combat is going to happen when opposing units enter the same square - I think there should be "opportunity fire" when a unit moves into an adjacent square and the army holds the high ground or a fortified position. This would not require zooming in to tactical combat, but if an enemy tries to get past my fort or my catapult on a hill, I should get the chance t

I would like to see the ability to "dig in" and build fortifications on non-city squares - even inside enemy territory. Maybe this should require a special unit to be able to do and maybe take a few turns to complete. Taking over a fortified position should yield some extra benefit, such as being able to repair the fortification and hold it as your own at minimal cost. Building a fortification on a trade route might even be a way to disrupt said trade route, or maybe your could tax th
Maybe incorporate "mood swings", and maybe have some races that mood swings don't really affect (like Vulcans) but others that it may just be what phase the moon is in, they may be overall a peaceful race, but maybe the leader woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and so diplomacy isn't going as well as you would expect. Or maybe the Drengin have a once every ten year celebration where they ingest all kind of "feel good" substan

For fire you could do something like Heat wave (Global Warming?) that could cause famine resulting in starvation. Not a disease but it would have the same end result on population.
I don't think we should try to find the same effect for every element. The elements should be different. I think that only like 1 or 2 should be able to create disease and famine, and 2 or 3 should be able to cou
Desease could also be created by the element water, air and earth. Maybe fire, but I don't find a reason... A desease can come from contaminated water, stinking air or overflowing drainage system (earth/mud). The cure can come from 'holy water', 'healing plants' (earth) I think, we could find a way for every element to create or cure a desease...
For fire you could do something

We take AI very seriously on our games. And I take the AI very personal since it's the part of the game I personally code.
I personally thinnk the AI in GalCiv2 is awesome. What I think the next step is, to make the AI a little less predictable. Although I will say GalCiV2 has surprised

Magic can be anything that to an observer is incomprehensible. If the U.S rolled into some third world country with these new tanks that emit burning sensations on their targets - to someone unfamiliar with the technology - that is magic. IN regards to what most of us consider magic in fiction, there seem to be two major divisions. OK, let me rephrase - I am arbitrarily MAKING two divisions [e digicons]^_^[/e] First, there is magic that any person

I do not think the user created content will be anywhere near the levels of Spore. My impression has been that content to be broadcast will be carefully moderated by StarDock before being broadcast - I may have the wrong impression though!
