vvpeev, I think those are wonderful ideas. I really like that the idea of the trait reducing armor penalties instead of just allowing access. That makes it more exciting, and I believe level-ups should be all about adding excitement, since it is a reward mechanism. Also in my last post I said something along the lines of "Like it's the kind of fun that I only have to fight 20-30 battles until I can wear plate mail, if I am willing to spend 20 year's of my in-game economy to do

I just want to say on the hero front, two hard-earned level-ups to wear heavier armor is underwhelming. It is not like balance demands it, because it was never there before and no one was complaining about it. There are already enough barriers to heavy armor: the end-game tech, the exorbitant buying cost (it is far cheaper to give it to 6 regular people than one champion), having to scrounge it from random drops. If you feel that isn't enough, slap a level requirement on it, but spending

I do hope it gets updated for LH.
If Elemental encouraged cooperative victories more, that'd be something I'd take advantage of more. Especially in a 'World Gone Mad, Unite Against The Monster Hordes' kinda setting, where allying and aiding in the defense of at least one other Kingdom/Empire would be a strong necessity. Sure, you could still have some uppity opponents to deal with, but the main goal would be to bring the world out of darkness, not b

I am just curious, do you guys use multiple champion armies? Do you use all your heroes?

I define playing to win as you are trying to defeat the AI opponents from the beginning of the game. Your motive from the beginning is to win as efficiently as possible, and heroes, the sovereign, and all other game systems (quests, wildlands) are only tools to this end. You play LH like chess with distracting frills. Winning in under a 100 turns is ideal, instead of a disappointment. You don't ever play just to level your heroes and sovereigns just for the rpg thrill of it. Does
yes, it has been discussed before many times and it is by design. The reasoning behind it is that once you defeat the creep, it is gone. But the armies of other factions will "spawn" over and over again, because they are trained. You would basically get a constant flow of massive XP reward for your champions if other factions provided the same XP.
Oh my gosh, that is the reason?! That is crazy. They have champions on such
Sounds reasonable, but the reality is it would make it almost mandatory to have two heroes in a group or you would be throwing away a lot of experience. I also believe Azunai makes a convincing argument why XP-splitting works.
It seems like this same argument makes playing Altair with henchmen mandatory. Henchman are heroes without XP splits, so you must play them or you are throwing XP away. XP greed need

I don't think heavy AI development and balance changes for its competitiveness is the way to go. Too much work to please too few, but maybe they are important people. Shoring up war, spell, and diplomatic behavior to look more human and effective would be plenty in my opinion, since everyone would notice that. I think the ideal changes are harder than people think, and many months of development can be put in to ideal personalities and behaviors, but I would be willing to be

Frogboy, you don't honestly think you can develop an AI that can beat serious players straight up, do you? Most people play the game casually, but they also didn't know that you are collecting data on their games. Winning on challenging is as simple as developing a mage sovereign to cast fireball in 1 turn, building a mana reserve and some troop to buffer the sov, and using it to obliterate opposing troops. Almost any coherent, focused strategy will consistently beat the

If they did a fun audit on this game, the only problem areas from this expansion would be heroes. XP should not be something you have to spend picks for, you should not even be able to spend 4 levels on just MOAR xp. It is like they are trapping players who think they are making a good long term investment, though without the forum you would have a lot of trouble figuring out how bad that investment is. The XP split keeps what I am guessing is a large percentage of players (fr
Your issue is that heroes level too slowly and you find the level choices underwhelming. I'm not sure why you fixate on XP splitting. Why not complain about the lack of a magic XP fairy that grants XP to all your champs every turn?
I think there is way more to this than that. The general strategy of using heroes together has been penalized to the point it is not viable. This was a f

AoW2, Shadow Magic, and MoM essentially made the sovereign a non-combat unit. In the AoW series you could put the sov in battle, but they didn't level and weren't strong at all. In both games they were the only units that seriously cast spells. This made them really special. I don't think they want to go that far in LH, but it does seem there needs to be something inherently special about the sovereign. They are heroes with a head-start right now.

Yes, it is really easy to change this. I wouldn't quit the game because of it, especially before it is even released. When the game gets officially released there will be Steam workshop mods that address this elegantly for you. That is one of the great boons to moving everything to Steam, applying mods couldn't be easier (subscribe button). Until then you could change the xml in the english folder, or mod properly from one of the guides in the modding forum (though if you don&

I could have sworn that at one time they were replacements. Was it ever the case they were, or did I just never notice that?

I wondered this myself. I know skills like lethal have the same type of description but it is a replacement and not a stacking effect.

If Stardock would announce plans to do another expansion after this with large amounts of content additions, I could care less what they do before release with this one. I just don't want this expansion to be it. This was a good expansion, but it seemed like it was mostly balance. The love they put in to balancing is awesome, but it would be sweet to get one more expansion or some dlc with new quests (so we don't get the same ones each game), deeper diplomacy, some new game modes or s

@ mqpiffle I am having a hard time imagining this, but I am really curious. Do you know something specifically? Because if being a game developer required someone to ask their friends for 20-50 hours or so of labor at regular intervals, I would think it would be the lonliest job in the world. But maybe I don't have the right picture.
... The game is balanced in the eyes of the developers. ...
I highly doubt the developers themselves would claim that. From what I have gathered from dev journals ect., Stardock does not have a large dedicated play-testing department. Without one, it is impossible to understand how the game plays with all the different combinations of settings and player preferences without getting feedback from a place like this

@ sweatyboatman I mod my sovereign with whatever +exp% makes the game the most fun for me. I would never, ever do any work in a game to pick a +exp% bonus on level up. I have things to do in my life, and working hard in video games to have fun is not on my list. I also load him 15 points or so attributes in a modded race with 15 points of picks. I use the all the picks that are fun, the rest I have but may or may not use. I can mod out the exp split if it really bothers me, I usu
