[quote who="ben_sphynx" reply="75" id="3338133"] I've now had more of a think about it. When monsters capture a city, make an event of it. Each turn, the monsters do something. Maybe produce another of themselves. Maybe burn down a building. Maybe kill population. Maybe send out another war party. Maybe convert some population into units that will fight for the monsters (undead!, bandits!). This should continue until a suitably legendary hero brings

+1 to the idea that monster attacks on cities are way too punishing right now. I think part of the problem is that the game is too.. jerky with events. Out of nowhere, an unstoppable mob will just eat on of your most important cities or permanently injure all your heroes. This kind of stuff makes me want to reload rather than just continue on. I think harsher short-term penalties could be applied (maybe temporarily higher Unrest Kingdom-wide?), but the permanent effect
I'm very excited about this. I'm quite curious to see how battles differ, but, more than anything else, I hope the whole games comes together a bit more cohesively than in FE.
Honestly, I've been refreshing all day. I've been strongly considering buying the beta once this patch is released, and I'm very eager to see it put up.
As noted above, Civ 3 had pretty much the exact same mechanic as outposts. GalCiv II's asteroid mining and resource collection were also somewhat similar to outposts.
I think you should scale down the actual power of champions, but, instead, give them varying types of bonuses on standard units in tactical combat. Also, make those bonuses spatial, with different spatial distributions, to add to the flavor of tactical battles while also differentiating different types of heroes and different types of units. So, maybe, you'd have one hero that specializes in increasing attack. He could have a wider aura, to augment more
If they just added facing and flanking, I think that would add a lot on its own. Also, maybe like in Warsong/Langrisser Champions could give off spatial auras of combat effects. It might negate some of the issues people have with not using champions in combat, while also adding some tactics to the tactical combat.
I really hope you guys pull this off! I also hope you open the door sooner than later for people who didn't buy WoM in 2010. Hell, if the buzz is good, I'd preorder FE for the chance at the beta in a few weeks...
I understand we're you're coming from, but I think you should strongly consider giving unique units something a little.. unique. Like give them access to a higher number of potential upgrades/training+gold cost, but make it so both custom and pre-existing factions can only have access to three unique units at a time.
It's sort of sad that game developers still refuse to admit that second monitors are relatively common anymore. One of the few games that I remember even supporting dual monitors was Supreme Commander. Honestly, it made the game feel a lot cooler than it would've otherwise. With a bunch of hassle, you could do splitscreen Left 4 Dead across a dual monitor setup. I used to play online with my roommate all the time like this. However, it wa
I'm hoping you eventually expand the scope of the beta. Until then, good luck!
If you absolutely do not want to drop Elemental, almost certainly use Elemental 2: Fallen Enchantress. Like I've said before, you -really- do not want people thinking this is just another expansion or expandalone. Elemental 2: Fallen Enchantress. However, emphasize the new approach. "From the same studio that brought you Galactic Civilizations 2, a brand new game in the fantasy 4x genre." Only talk about War of Magic in interviews and s
I haven't played WoM yet, but, if I had to say, I think there are three broad sets of options: 1. Market it as a reboot, calling it Elemental: Fallen Enchantress. 2. Market it as a sequel, calling it Elemental 2: Fallen Enchantress. 3. Market it as a new game [secretly in the same universe], calling it Fallen Enchantress. Personally, I think you should pick either 2 or 3. Why? Although 1. works if you know a bit abo
