I was slow to go with digital distribution. I still have boxes of old games in crates. But now that I've started using digital distribution I'll never go back. Steam is probably my favorite followed closely by Impulse/gamestop, but I have used gamersgate, D2D, and GOG. (GOG is awesome). One thing though. I rarely by my games at full price. I know if I wait long enough Steam or someone else will have a big sale.

From what I can tell the power rankings have to do with how many units you have. The AI tends to spit out a lot of units and not build it's cities very much. In the long run this will catch up to the AI. Level your starting heros/leader and give them some units and you should be able to handle most anything the AI sends at you as long as you don't end up fighting several kingdoms. Hint: experience after a battle is divided between heroes and units separately. &
Look at it like economic warfare.
I've decided that the AI intentionally sets up outposts to activate monsters in the players area as a strategy. I plan on trying to do it to the AI with pariden but haven't gotten around to it yet. Kinghobbit those monsters are weak to blunt attacks (earth elemental types tend to be). So militia with their clubs are better against them than spearmen for example. Not a criticism, I have had towns wiped out by monsters too. Just a tip.
Maybe an ability that would cause everyone near them to attack them for a turn. Letting them use their high defense to help the rest of the army.
I don't think you lose a turn with stun. It's a regular attack with a chance to stun. But you don't lose a turn. That said this is a nice series of posts you've put up and some good ideas too.
Two or three cities is fine in the early game if you do a couple of things. One, get your sov and maybe a hero unit some xp. A quick thing to do early is use summons or spearmen to support your heroes. Heroes get the most xp solo, that is with no other heroes in the group, other soldiers or monsters are fine. The goal here is to have at least one stack that will be better than the multiple stacks the CPU will send at you. Once you have taken down the CPU
Had this issue a couple of times, after playing for a long time. Also moving the camera closer and restarting both helped me too. I have an older computer dual core 32 bit with 4 gigs of ram. I wonder if those of us who have seen this have weaker computers?
I had the best starting location ever this weekend under 915
Last night attack a late game spider (forget the name of it) with a 7 unit strong rated army. First turn the spider mesmerizes the whole army, runs across the map and kills all but two of my units (including my champion and an iron golem). One of the units to survive was the unit he targeted. Splash damage calculation is way off. I'm just going to leave that spider alone and hope he doesn't move.
Tarth seems to be the early rush kingdom. They settle quickly and get bonuses for fighting in small groups but they don't have any late game bonuses. Golems or Juggernauts. If it is balanced they should need those extra cities to deal with the other factions later in the game. I haven't played as them so maybe they need nerfed or everyone else needs a boost, but I like the idea of having an aggressively expanding kingdom. Also prestige is still split ov
Ive never seen this before so I am probably off base. But I remember I had problems with the UI and some other things with the game updating from Beta 2 to Beta 3. Uninstalling the game and reinstalling fixed those problems.
Thanks for the hard work. [e digicons]:D[/e]
One thing that Diablo does that Elemental could do is progressive unlocks. Say that you have to win a game with a particular race to unlock the next race. Or maybe you have to do something specific in game (cast 25 fireballs) to unlock a pyromancer soveriegn trait. This would add some game-to-game progression that could add to the addiction level of Elemental.
I think the idea of a meta game is interesting. &
Thanks everyone for your replies to my post. Even though many people here seem to find Diablo distasteful this thread didn't devolve into personal attacks and in fact some people have had some really good input for the developers. This is an excellent community. (Also the team should take the weekends off, your right.) Let me boil this down to a more interesting question. Is there a game, with interesting mechanics, that the developer should look at? Not a 4X g
This is interesting to me. For the record I'm not a Diablo fan boy or anything, like I said I don't have the game or plan to play it anytime soon. It seems to me that this thread really broke down to a diablo sucks, don't bring that shit in here, vibe. Which is cool, everyone can hate on Diablo. But that doesn't mean there is nothing from its game design that can be learned from it. Don't get me wrong I don't want FE to be Diablo with
Just to be up front I haven't played diablo 3 yet, but I have watch lots of videos and listen to lots of people talk about it. I also have played many of the action rpgs. Every one seems to be loving this new diablo and it seems to be very addicting. Really this style of game is really simple just click until its dead, then click something else until its dead, then skip cut scene, then click some more. So what makes it addicting and how can we apply some of that to
Thanks Kongdej. And your right a lot will change with the city stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing the design changes in beta 4. Someone should probably start a thread about what we like and don't like about the city design. Is there anything less helpful in the world than saying someone should do something and then not doing it yourself? That was a rhetorical question. [e digicons][/e]
Orion's what do you like thread got me thinking about this. I like that the monsters have weaknesses that can be exploited now. A crafty player can design his stack to take on specific threats. One game as Gilden I noticed that earth elementals and there associated monsters are weak to blunt damage. Because of that I was able to use Gilden's hammers to wipe out a stack that would have been to tough for me, with another faction, that early in the game. Nic
It remains unresolved until you end the next turn (if I remember right).
Sure, but the point I'm trying to make is that once you get past the exploration and expansion phase of the game, your strategy stays the same. One game I had a hoard of fire elementals over run my kingdom, attacking my cities and destroying one of them. That was fun, but it didn't really change my overall strategy. Perhaps if there had been some more lasting effect to the event. Something to cause me to make a choice (after I had killed the elementals) b
I am enjoying .913 a lot and I am looking forward to the changes to the kingdoms/empires coming in the new versions of the game. I feel like the game is going in the right direction. So this post isn't to say there is anything wrong or that something needs to change. Personally I feel like the latter parts of the game tend to be a little less engaging then the early parts. Something I personally find helps keep games fresh is when new mechanics or features are adde
I have seen a few others mention this in the forums but didn't see a thread for it. Twice my game has refused to continue to the next turn. Not to say the game locked up, in fact I could do most things including saving the game. The game just wouldn't "complete" the turn when I hit the turn button. Saving the game and reloading seems to fix the problem. The first time (I think) it was caused by two monster stacks attacking the same city on the same turn
Well i got the game installed. I don't know how long it took to get to the permission request because I started it working and left the house for a couple of hours. But when I returned it was asking permission to install. From there is installed and ran just fine (for about an hour). I've seen on the forums that this has happened to a small number of people and it seems like the kind of thing that should be resolved before the beta is finished.
Hi just wanted to say i am having the same problem installing ver. .85 of FE. I have windows vista 32 and a dual core processor. its been about 20 min. so far and while my computer seems to be working nothing has happened Edit: Waited about 50 min and nothing. Stopped it using task manager and tried to install .75 which i had previously downloaded but never installed and the same thing happened. Edit 2: tried running as administrator, same thing.<
