Excellent OP. I am still in the process if discovering all these quirks, but am rapidly coming to many of the same conclusions. Bravo, good job. Sadly, this suggests that - 1) This game doesn't just need a few patches/a bit of polish. It needs a massive amount of work. This game feels many months away from being ready - and a number of its features appear to be in a 'needs to go right back to the drawing board' state of disrepair. 2) Th

It fast becomes clear that single units, including your non magic wielding champs, become rapidly obsolete in tactical battles. But I can see no way of combining your singles into squads (or smaller squads into bigger squads). Is this an oversight, or is this a design decision. (I gotta say, I am finding it hard to see the merits in this squad system; it just doesn't make much sense to me the way it's implemented.)
Honestly, the more I play this, the more I think the whole thing is fundamentally fubar. Management of different army 'stacks' is (in the campaign at least) is fiddly and often doesn't work at all (UI bugs?). Units end up scattering all over the place, combining or not combining, using up moves as they appear in random places (when you click the arrow to disassociate them from an army). The concept of squads itself makes little sense to me; a 'squad' simply seems t
Do you mean that you are having trouble getting stacked units to join you army? If that's the case my guess would be that its the UI glitch. Its kind of annoying.... but units in the same tile don't always belong to the same army and you can accidently remove the unit from the army by clicking on the individual units too. If that isn't the problem, my guess its some sort of bug. I have
I am a little confused about the whole individual vs squads vs etc numbers of units. When I was creating one unit at a time, they happily subsumed into my main guy's army. But the 'stacks' (ie a 4 man unit) didn't seem to. This left me wondering how to get them involved in a battle against some foe at the same time as my main guy's army... help? Also, these 'stacks' seems to take a similar time to make as an individual... but act as one and die as one. It's all
well, as far as i've seen, melee acts normally, if u have 4 action points the unit in question will attack 4 times, using 1 action points per attack/move (altho if u have 4.2 action points u will attack 5 times , idk how this works , they use the 4 action points and then use the 0.2 aswell if i remember correctly) WHILE the archers, they use 2 action points at first and the rest after ... (im not sure about this tho, mus
ah. OK - thanks for the replies. putting them into a nearby town is something, at least! It seems a shame to lose vets, although quite realistic... experts in old tech get shelved all the time in the real world.
I am in the campaign... I can upgrade the unit templates, but not sure how to upgrade them in the field. Is there a way, or do they become completely obsolete? If so, is there anyway to remove them other than suicide against a more powerful monster?
Doesn't the game let you attack with .1 action point?
I am not sure.. maybe this is the point... although melee doesnt seem to work that way.
When in a shop, it is very hard to see immediately what an item will do to my stats. It would be very helpful that when I click on an item to see its stats, it indicated on my hero's stats what the overall effect would be. Also, when I buy something, there is no indication that it has been bought, which can lead to accidental double purchases. Overall, the UI for purchases is unwieldy.
I am playing the campaign. At one point I get some archers with 3 action points. They shoot their first volley - 2 action points each. Now when I mouse over the bow n arrow icon I get a no go, needs 2 action points. But then I simply click, and guess what - I get a shot for one action point. Is this as intended? I kind of like that I get 2 shots, but maybe this is a bug.
One word: presents. Keep giving your early adopters little presents, because right now many people here - while they seem to be in a pretty good mood - are nonetheless pretty disappointed by the sheer number of issues to be addressed. You are lucky, oh so lucky... you have a customer base here more tolerant of a problematic release than I have seen in any other game. But it won't last forever. You know this. But you may have less time than you might think before the tide turns
I am getting into this game bit by bit, but one thing I wonder about - whenever (in the campaign) a dialogue is offered to me, and I click it, my screen flashes white very briefly before moving onto the next dialogue choice. It's not game-breaking, but it feels unhealthy - is this meant to be like this, or is it a bug? I have had no other performance issues with this game.
I have only just started playing this game, but I confess to wondering where the tactics come in in the tactical battles? I assume things become more interesting later (I am only working my way through the campaign) - because right now there doesn't seem to be much in the way of terrain features that make a difference, no possibility of deploying defensive structures, use of terrain for clever offense etc. Which makes me wonder, what are the kind of tactics people are em
OK - I bought the game - I am fundamentally an addict and was always going to. But whu? I can't even work out how to make a group... Very early days, but each time I use shift clicking to make a group to do something, it works, but I have to do it all over again the next turn? I don't understand. The point is not so much this particular issue, but that there is basically no explanation how to do things in this game. I am playing the campaign... I am surprised - the game is pre
The damage is increased with every shard you control. If you for example control two air shards and attack with an air spell, you deal triple the normal damage. Also you could edit the XML files and crank up the damage if you'd like.
As the above poster says, this is apparently not working at the moment, at least in tactical battles. Have you experienced otherwise?
Let me state I will almost certainly buy this game at some stage. I love the concept, and all things can be polished. But I am discouraged right now, to say the least, and find my mouse hovering over the purchase button, without ever quite clicking. Through one post here I discovered Fall from Heaven 2, a fantasy-themed Civ 4 mod. I haven't played Civ in ages, and this seems like an appealing way back into the fantasy 4x4 genre which I was looking for (Elemental whet my appetite).
It seems to me that if they are going to release a game at AAA price, they should release at AAA polish. They are competing with the big studios on big studio terms; if so, they should offer products worthy of that league. At the same time, I also totally understand the philosophy of fans here that say it's worth investing in what is essentially a beta product because they agree with the vision, support the company, and are confident it will reach the necessary standard in the
Bear in mind, I pre-ordered the special edition. I'm in, but it's hard to get other people involved with that terrible, cheap, uninteresting trailer. Food for thought. I hope someone does make a fan trailer, because few people are going to be positively influenced by that.
I often post fun trailers on facebook, or send links to friends whom I am trying to suck into a game. But this one shall not be posted, for sure.
Sad to say, the release trailer to this game is flat out awful - it makes what appears to be a creative and fun magic civ game look like an old-fashioned stodgy mess, and is IMO likely to scare off potential buyers. Had I not read through some of the literature beforehand, I suspect this trailer would have led me to dismiss this game without a second thought. Perhaps Stardock's marketing budget has been slashed; but it seems to me that fans of this game could do these guys a f
