I've always been a bit puzzled about the way Paradox handles this. It's not necessarily a bad idea, but it's fairly off-turning if you have a question about a game and can't post it because you don't have the game. There are plenty of non-constructive posts over there, too, so this approach doesn't guarantee more mature discussion. It almost certainly does lead to more sales, though! I believe that a community -- any community -- needs to be able to handle disagreements and minority o

If this wasn't a Stardock game, I'd be a little concerned about some of the flaws (documentation, AI), but they have an excellent track record of working on and improving their own titles, which is something I can say only about a few other studios and publishers. I'd agree that software needs to be allowed to get returned if it doesn't meet the buyer's expectations, just like any other product. But this isn't related to Elemental in particular, it's just a view I have been voicing fo
It took about half an hour for mine to show up here, but only for new posts, not the ones I made before uploading the image. :)
I have one question, is it better than Disciples 3? I am dying for a new game of this sort.
Disciplines 3 has some issues and needs a few patches. If you haven't played them, I'd probably look at King's Bounty: The Legend and King's Bounty: Armored Princess. They're lighter than Elemental's design, but really good fun and well done. There are also Fantasy Wars and its sequel Elven Legacy. But these are just vaguely similar
Joeuser.com is a Stardock site, and it shares the same user database with all other Stardock sites (like this one). My avatar shows up now, but only for new posts, not for previously made ones.
EACH and EVERY game is being reviewed upon it's release day version! *shakeshead*
I think that what Mtn_Man meant is that Elemental is an unusually complex game and, specially in light of the lacking or absent documentation, requires more time to fully discover and explore than reviewers are usually willing or able to invest into a game. Many users who review also compose their comments or articles after a few minutes or hours of
The PC Gamer review is very blunt, and it seems a little "emotional", as if the reviewer had some sort of axe to grind with Brad. Seems more like blog material than a professional take on the game. He does raise valid points, though. I have full faith in Stardock that the next months will see a lot of updates and patches, and the game will eventually shine. But I also agree that what I downloaded yesterday, and with the patch today, doesn't seem finished. Do I regret my purchase? No,
...still think a unified inventory would have been easier!
I'm torn in this. I had the same trouble as you (actually, it took a few moments before I had figured out how to see the inventory at all :)), but I sort of like the added realism of the individual inventories. On the flipside, I imagine when I have many units and heroes later on, or in a sandbox game, this may get rather messy and create a lot of overhead.
Im in the "didn't get it"... thus i complain and wonder: 1. Is something wrong with my impulse?
I had to right-click the game's name and then select "Refresh". After this, the update was available for download. It probably checks periodically, but the "Refresh" option forces a check.
Equipment handling I have a stack of "hero" units and my sovereign. I select the "inventory" button of my sovereign to change out some equipment. It would be nice if I can switch to the other units of that stack without having to close the inventory first.
I second this. It also took me a bit of hovering and clicking before I found out how to equip the items I had just bought in the store (campaign, after building a city).
Please go to joeuser.com and upload from there, trust me, it works.
I ran into the same problem, and the above tip worked fine. Thank you! :) Edit: Or maybe it didn't work. The avatar image shows in my account settings now, but not in forum posts. Perhaps it needs time.
Both attack and def values are also affected by strength and dexterity, and a sovereign with 20 dex wearing the 5 def helmet would have a constant def of 10 against blunt, and a def of 1-10 against a piercing attack.
So one point of dex gives 0.25 points of def vs. blunt attacks, but non vs. piercing attacks? (I'd love a detailed manual for this game! :))
This reminded me to order a copy of the paperback. :) My local bookstore here in Germany still only has it listed as preorder, but their database may not have updated yet.It retails for $16 here.
I'm still downloading the original release. I hope that won't be interrupted and I can just download a patch rather than having to download the whole thing again. :) Only 45k/s connection here, so it's some 12 hours or so.
I cannot figure out what the hell I'm doing.
Excellent. You will make a fine addition to our kingdom.
I agree. Maybe a few dollars off, or perhaps a bonus game-related small `gift,'
Gimmicks were one of the reasons that made buying games fun in the 80s and early 90s. They don't do this anymore, except for Collector's Editions (that have now the content that normal editions used to come with), and I agree that extras for the download version would be nice. Just cosmetic and vanity stuff, nothing that gives a
Pirating software is thievery, it's illegal, and morally wrong.
No, it's a copyright violation. That is illegal, too, of course. It, however, is not theft. Like I said, you call an apple an apple (copyright violation), and not an orange (theft), even though both are fruit (illegal activities). This is more than just semantics.
Iron Lore was a fool for not understanding how powerful effect piracy has on word-of-mouth advertising either.
Iron Lore was a "fool" for making one the best Diablo clones and not having the resources or the foresight to add a closed server for online play (or any other form of "secure" online gaming). Diablo 2 was heavily pirated, certainly more so than Titan Quest, but that didn't stop it from being a huge commercial success. (Iron Lo
Yeah..probably. Either way, these sorry ass pirates won't be able to update their pirated copied at least.
In a way, this is bad for the game's reputation. I'm still downloading my copy from Impulse, but from what I've read here, it seems that the game will not shine before it's gotten updates. Considering the state that many PC games are released in these days, I wouldn't doubt that there are plenty of people who pirate games not b
Well, I purchased the game this morning and it was 38 Euro for the download. The boxed version would have added about 16 Euro for the shipping. I don't know if there would have been an additional import tax. That's 54 Euro total. Now, if I purchase a game at my game store here in Germany, most new releases sell for an average of 40-45 Euro, plus 3 Euro for shipping. The price difference isn't all that high (unless there is an additional import tax), if you want the box. I'd have bough
Is the manual available as a separate download somewhere? (Officially, that is.) I just purchased a digital copy and the 1.87 GB are downloading, but at 45kb/s, this will take most of the day! (Living a bit in the wilderness, so 384kbit DSL is all they can offer me.) I didn't know about the "one day early" download, or I'd already be playing now! :)
