One of each shard type seems to always be added when you load a map in the map editor as well. Try creating a basic map with only a small amount of land. Then save the map and reload. (Note: reload of a just created map = get out of Elemental, restart, open map editor, and load map... another small bug) Can't wait for a map editor update! [e digicons]|-)[/e]

I'd really like an Auto-Move button too... For me at least, it is unintuitive to have the Auto-Move at the end of turn. Having it auto-move at beginning or end of turn could also be a Game Option.
