Epic - A word usually used to describe something that should have finished on the high two hours ago but meanders on for a further three hours. Usually used to build bladder endurance in the populace at large.

It's not archers that would help, you could just build your own archers and slaughter the AI's on the attack. What it could use is some planning, at the moment it's tactics seem to be limited to beelining for a given unit. It'd be nice to see it understand numbers, so when outnumbered it would head to the +defence squares, when it outnumbers you then maybe swarm the weak units ahead in the hope you spend so much time whacking them it's big hitters get to charge and attack next turn.

Still waiting for mine too in the UK. Though in my case Customs have probably put it somewhere to make sure it's not going to start ticking.
I can't believe that all of the people who have posted here have had their deliveries lost in transit.
They won't have, but if you contact sales the first thing you'll learn is that not all copies shipped on the 24th. Mine wasn't dispatched till the 3rd, so I'm not expecting it till the end of this week.

Why not give four or five of the non-element books (Enchant, Summons, Death, Life) and have them researched just like techs, except rather than unlocking a tech you pick a spell to unlock, with choices drawn from the element schools - so level 1 death research would give you hurl boulder or flame dart etc. Set the lists so you only get one opportunity to select a spell (if you choose flame dart over hurl boulder, you won't get a chance to take hurl boulder) with perhaps one or two magic techs

It used to cost 1 essence to do, and it was not only pointless but meant the sovereign spent most of the game scouting for city sites rather than doing anything useful. Having to pay a successively higher cost per city was a better solution, but then I don't really see a problem with the current system.

There's no real downside as such beyond the cost for the pioneers and of course the necessity for city defence. Conversely there's no real upside either. You're looking at building seventeen cities with arcane labs to beat a single developed city with an ancient temple. Of course if you have the time, resources and opportunity knock yourself out. Champion spam would probably be a better strategy. You still get the 1 resource generation, but you can also load them up with Lord ha

There are a lot of practical reasons that I think users can think of as to why we didn't just copy the MOM magic system for a 2010 game (same as to why we wouldn't have dozens of radically different races -- think: cost of low resolution sprites vs. fully realized 3D models). But I think we're just going to

The bonuses are useless unless you have an ancient library in the city.

Far safer than risking going to walmart and being run down by some fatty on a scooter who is so fat they need motorized support to shop and get fatter. All kinds of terrible things can happen to you if you leave your house - it's much safer to shop online. You might get sunburned from seeing the sun for the first time in weeks. Or

I seem to remember direct swapping of techs being ruled out in the beta, along with indications that it was never designed to be in. I think you're taking the AI too literally. It's not saying "I've got this neat tech", it's saying "Our researchers are better than yours". Or possibly "Our researchers are worse than yours, please give me a research treaty". Not quite figured that one out yet :P

You can build a Palace once you research administration which generates 7 Gildar and 7 Prestige. I don't think there's a building that produces research though. IIRC the Mint also generates Gildar too. Would be nice to have similar royal or world achievements that generate Arcane and Tech research points too though (unless they're already in. Can't remember if the current tech and arcane achievements apply a bonus or generate)
Console games need to be ready, finished products when they get pressed and sent to stores. People are not going to accept a $60 purchase for their console that doesn't work as advertised on the box. Make a purchase, rush home, stuff the game into the PS3 or XBox360, it doesn't run, and a call to the company results in "oh, yeah .. well .. it doesn't work as intended, sorry. Wait a few weeks and keep trying, it should work

Perhaps a good approach would be to mirror the darker aspects across the Empire / Kingdom divide. So you have a Kingdom which is all about being strong enough to fight for survival and defend your land, mirrored in an Empire which is about brute strength and might makes right. Though I dislike the simplistic black\white approach they usually use, so it might be better to go for a grey scale. So while Tarth might epitomise the principles of a strong defence for the kingdoms, it also me

I think the point of the techs is to mitigate a bad start to some extent, but they're not the ideal format. What might be better is moving them from the adventure tree altogether and replacing them with something in the magic tree which would allow you to select what resource and where to spawn it that worked one time, or had a prohibitive cost. Or maybe simply a spell to spawn a resource type requiring the permanent sacrifice of essence to do; i.e. sacrifice five essence and spawn a resource
