Thanks for the update! Not a great analogy, no offense. When I pre-ordered the game, the page said the 24th. I had no reasonable expectation that it would be available before then. If Stardock failed to deliver on the 24th you'd be a little closer.
Frogboy has been saying for a week it'd be an early release, and he said on Friday I believe that it would be this morning / mid-day. I'd consider him

Probably a very cathartic experience when they have such intense feelings of entitlement bottled in.
Yup, because when someone tells you they'll do something, and then doesn't do it, any affront is evidently down to your sense of entitlement. Let me just explain this to my boss when I don't show up at work tomorrow and I'll get back to you on this.

IIRC they said there wouldn't be a retail release in Europe, so at least at the moment the only option is to digitally download (although you can get a hardcopy shipped to you via Impulse too, but you'll need to add in $10 postage) or see if you can get it imported (Amazon might be a good bet).
And you can't just say "Pff, a math problem!". If a gun in a FPS is supposed to do 5.0 damage a shot, but instead does 50.0 damage a shot because of a misplaced decimal, it's a "math problem" but it's pretty significant in terms of gameplay!
It's only a problem if it's inconsistent. If every gun in the game has the same misplaced decimal problem then the game still works fine, it just means the damage scale as a

He criticised the AI, complained the immersion was regularly broken and the story was fairly boring. None of which are particularly controversial, it just seems his sum total of the game differed from everyone else's. Which tends to be the problem I have with his reviews; he focuses too much on the individual parts and misses the sum of th

Either way they are both gigantic improvements over AoW 1 (which had lots of promise but was a giant disapointment).
Yup. AoW:SM was pretty much AoW II with two additional races and a new map level. IIRC it was released a year after AoW II. AoW II / SM won out on mechanics, but I mu

It would be nice to get it today or tomorrow so I get a chance to play before my working week starts. On the other hand, I just picked up Zombie Shooter 2 on this weekend's sale, and Star Ruler should be released tomorrow so I'm sure I can tide myself over till Monday :)

You could in AoW one, in fact for the campaign I just specialised my guy in assassination and then went and offed the enemy wizards without worrying about building armies or the like. AoW II and SM had the respawn thing, but then the wizard themselves were no longer really effective combat units and the tower mechanic meant you'd rather keep them in the cities where you could target a fair portion of the surrounding map than stick them in an army and pretty much lose the overland spells

I think he was getting at the fact it's irrelevant to the game whether the computers are in the same room or on different continents, the networking is the same, it's just a matter of distance. From the sound of it all four systems will have access to the internet, and presumably all four will have access to Impulse (in fact they'd need it to play). Installing is therefore not an issue; you could presumably simply log into your Impulse account on each box and download and install from

I'm not sure I'll feel ok buying the game without some form of copy protection. Would it be possible for Stardock to send someone around to my house whenever I install it to amputate my left hand and punch me in the vulnerables a bit so I can get that authentic DRM feeling? If you could hold my first born hostage until I decide I never want to play the game again it would probably help too.

The only punishment is what you're inflicting on yourself. I mean if you pass up the optional sun roof on a car do you come away feeling punished? :P The Civ 5 bonuses are a good example of the publishers loading "freebies" into a deal for perceived value which aren't actually as good as they appear. Free maps? Assuming you have a map of the region you can probably recreate them in an hour or so in the map editor, but then this being Civ it's pretty much a given that anything Firaxis
