I've just started playing FE:LH after many years sitting in my game library and it truly is a hidden gem. Hope they make a sequel and make the races a bit more flavorful.

First off, I am really enjoying playing the game this time around. Work hasn't allowed me to spend too much time on it, but what time I have spent has been a pleasant surprise after the last game. Anyway, I have two comments. One is wistful thinking, the other is more feasible. The one thing the game misses in war is the epic feel of Dominions - having a large army clash. I really wish someone would make a fantasy war game with a similar combat m

I just downloaded the beta and am having a lot of fun playing the game. I was one of those that pre-ordered Elemental and couldn't get myself to spend more than about 15 minutes with it. I was very disappointed. FE seems to have a lot of potential and is already a lot more fun. Thanks for sticking it out and bringing this game to those of who weren't happy with the first iteration. PS and the game has soul!! I had to laugh when my first companion ended

I pre-ordered Elemental and still have yet to play more than about 15 minutes. That said, I still check in every now and then and am impressed at the level of effort toward making a good game. My 2 cents for what its worth is please put some soul into the different nations. Example (this is an actual quote from the manual)instead of "Urxen: Another Fallen race, they are smaller than Trogs and are less effective in battle, but more productive" How about:

I think I was one of the first pre-orders and just now sat down to play elemental. I could never get the beta to run on my old laptop, got the new one replaced, and heard all the bad stuff about Elemental so wasn't excited to dive in. In fact, I was pretty bitter for a while that I "wasted" my money but have gotten over it. By way of background, I love deep and flavorful strategy games - my favorite is probably Dominions 3, but like lighter stuff, like HOMM or WBC. W

Sounds great. Long time ago I posted something on this forum on the importance of tradeoffs so I love the philosophy behind your approach to cities. Would love it if even a fully maxed out city still left you wishing you could fit something else in it. That would then mean then you'd have to fit it somewhere else and thus lead to having specialized cities for different things instead of lots of mega cities that are just clones of eachother as happens in late game Civ. Kudos!

Cool art but i cannot really get a sense of the flavor of these nations. Not that I am looking for steroetypical knock-offs , e.g. the traditional Desert Nomad, Northern Barbarian, Eastern Imperial, etc, but I do hope the nations have some flavor aka soul that make each of them distinct. Not trying to be negative, just really want this to be an epic game so hopeful the nations ultimately have the flavor that made titles like MOO2 or Dominions great. Cheers

I just logged in to start the same thread, but see I was beaten to the punch. I think its a great idea. I think especially since there are not the usual fantasy races to spice things up, the Loyalty concept could be a great addition. Taking a page from the euro boardgame playbook on designing great games, loyalty could be used to help limit the runaway leader problem. For example, you have a leader/hero that has developed into a quite powerful and effective individual

I missed MoM the first time around, but just started messing around with it using DOSBOX. So far, I have been surprised how similar it seems conceptually to Age of Wonders, and wonder why MoM fans did not consider AoW a worthy successor? Right down to power nodes, multiple planes, customizable wizards, building techs in cities, diverse races/units, magic spheres. In fact, my main reaction to playing MoM is a desire to take up AoW again. Anyone care to compare the two g

Haven't read through all these posts nor do I care to change anyone's opinions. I just want add my two centavos and say Dom3 is my favorite PC game of all time and I have played it solidly (close to every day) for over a year. I don't play SP at all, but the MP game is amazing. One way I use to assess a game is to look at the community to see how active it is and number of strategy guides, etc. If you check out http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=38122&nbsp

I think some of the concepts listed here are excellent ideas. I loved the appearance of strategic resources in Civ throughout the game with the discovery of certain technologies. Finding great indy magic sites in Dominions is similar in helping each game feel unique and providing the thrill of making a cool discovery. On cities, I expressed some of my ideas in the Importance of Tradeoffs thread but basically would really enjoy having unique and specialized cities. And not
Leaving a hole in my unit selection and/or kingdom abilities enhances replayability, and makes me work to discover different ways to win the game.
Great point, one I had not put my finger on but I think is part of why I really enjoy games that use branching exlcusive decision paths. Replayability becomes almost infinite when you have lots of exclusive decisions since there are so many permutations and it

I think if the designers of Dominions had allowed a nation to produce a conquered enemies' units it would have radically altered the feel of the game despite the huge number of nations and units available. For example, nations would probably race to conquer Niefelheim or Pythium to get access to frost giants and hydras, respectively and then produce those units exclusively. &nbs

One thing I like about Dominions 3 is that when you take over another nation, you are not able to produce their units. In many other games where this is not the case, the feel of playing a distinct nation tends to be lost since in the end any player can produce any unit (like in AoW). Similarly, I believe games should require permanent tradeoff decisions. The most fun is when you have to make a tough branching decision on a path for example that closes down other options.&

Why do you care whether the planet is a sphere or not? Seems kind of irrelevant given the scale of the game. I personally like fantasy to have a thread of reality that allows one to thinkthe setting is not so implausible that it could never happen. So a big square planet made out of brie cheese would not be appealing to me. A spherical planet made out of some sort of energy storing crystal that provides a source for magic on the other hand is intriguing.

I really enjoy the art - it reminds me of the old Milton bradley game, Dark Tower, with a grim, watercolor cartoon feel. Some of the screenshots look a little sparse on color/detail but I assume that will change over time.

Reply to PBEM in WOM Ideas

I really hope for PBEM as well. Really expands the market to those of us with jobs and from a business perspective this is a group with disposable $ :). I had never tried PBEM until Dominions and now really wish I had tried it out with some other games like AoW. Would be awesome to have this on Elemental.
