Fallen Enchantress Beta 2 arrives!

Fallen Enchantress Beta 2 arrives!

Greetings!

The team has gotten beta 2 out the door today.  We really hope you like what you see.

For those of you who won't have time to play it tonight, fear not, we plan to release an update tomorrow with a number of bug fixes that came in too late to make it into today's build.

Hopefully, you find this build very stable (i.e. it shouldn't be crashing for anyone).

There's still a lot of rough edges which we will be working out through the beta 2 series.

Use this thread to post general impressions.  Please post bug reports in the Beta forum, we'll be reading through them all even when we're not responding.

If the defenders in cities were worth more, the AI would be free to leave the city and level up. I think enabling the player and the AI to arrange their units before a battle and teaching the AI to hold a position is a possible solution to the problem of them not being able to strike first. Even with archers, they are not giving them the Init boost so I can always get the first shot. If a collection of units has the same Init, the order should be random.

One way to stop the "First Blood wins" trend would be to make it costly to attack. Defenders cause more damage in their defense, not a counter.

Spear-men that are attacked have a a good chance of taking down some attackers before they can even swing a weapon, or claw.

Skirmishers attack from a very small distance, and/or defend that way at first. Archers tend to hit allies if they are all close in to battle.

Damage to both sides occurs with each attack or defense, unless one side is just that good.

Just played the Fallen Enchantress 86 beta upgrade, I found no bugs so far. And so far this game is everything that I had hoped WoM would be, and at least on my PC in tactical combat the AI has attacked me first at least 3 times. The kingdom of Capitar has betrayed me by asking me join with them in a war against Kraxar, and then 15 turns later they (Capitar) declared war on me!  The AI plays alot more like a flesh & blood person, AI sovs and champions wale on me with magic worse than they ever have before. And they use a variety of spells not just the same one over and over! When my sov and CO. went against a hoard of spiders every spider cast web just once and my units that were trapped could not move for 5 rounds. This spider trait has never worked right before! So all I can say is   THANKS guys! once again StarDock is showing love for it's customers by having designed yet another high quality game. I am really enjoying Fallen Enchantress so far can't wait to get the final version!

I just downloaded the beta and am having a lot of fun playing the game.  I was one of those that pre-ordered Elemental and couldn't get myself to spend more than about 15 minutes with it.  I was very disappointed. FE seems to have a lot of potential and is already a lot more fun.  Thanks for sticking it out and bringing this game to those of who weren't happy with the first iteration.

PS and the game has soul!!  I had to laugh when my first companion ended up with a broken leg, cracked skull, typhoid fever, and a chipped tooth...

nice!
