Speaking of police, I hate it how RPG games allow you to rummage other people houses, looking into chests and drawers and taking anything you like, with owners sometimes standing next to you, doing nothing. Notable exception was Gothic, where entering other people houses was sometimes enough for them to threaten you with a naked blade.

I even read a rant from famous Peter Molyneux on the topic, let me search it, oh, here it is: During a Leipzig GCDC briefing, Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux laid out some ideas on how to change the way combat games work. According to Eurogamer, Molyneux said combat games have the same issues among them, in that they are all about the same thing: hit points, weapons don't do much damage and the environments mean nothing. Molyneux proposed that fighting i

That's why I dislike hitpoint-based systems. The notion that highly skilled character needs dozen blows to the head to die is ridiculous.

MoM had casting skill that limited mana pool usable per combat. I think the system worked quite well. My fire archmage with Evoker 3 can deal ridiculous amounts of damage with flame darts.

For the record, Civilization (I think civ3) had outpost, for precisely this purpose - to let you use resources without the need to build cities. Later installations scrapped the concept. That said, I like them too. I did not pay close attention to my pioneer first time I played and accidentally founded an outpost instead of my first city, and then waited forever for it to grow to a city ;-) I thought the concept was similar to MoM, where newly founded cities has an outpost phase.

Some design decisions are hard to understand, like removal of city walls from the tactical battles. First, the games wants you to micromanage the swings of individual combatants (which is currently not very entertaining, because usual tactical elements like flanking, formation bonuses or cooperative interactions between units [archers provided cover for footsoldiers in Fantasy General, remember?], and boils down to a row of units trading blows till one side falls), and then it says: "okay, yo

GW Swicord - I don't know in which universe do you live, but it can't be this one. Voting ceremony is just a charade - in case you haven't noticed, your "elected representatives" are bought with corporate money before, or shortly after they come to office. That's why you can get over 20 year in prison for copyright infringements, while for starting a war that kills hundreds of thousands of foreign civilians, you are not even prosecuted. Those "do-gooders" are just a bunch

A turn spent in a city would be necessary to repair it, some sites could possibly double as forges. Special attacks could break equipment too, weakening important heroes for a while and bringing new strategies to the table. "Master Smith" or "Supperior equipment" traits could affect this - possible repairs in the field (after a while), or modified chances for breaking. Units could be affected too.

The optimal solution would be if they TALKED ! Then they could, even briefly, explain their hostility towards the player, like "Ho, ho, er... give me your... er... salted pork or die!", or "I am your long lost uncle Marrr-Hagma, and I still hold a grudge for the bottle of apple wine you stole from me. Die!", or "I am booored, let's spar a bit. I promise I won't use the sharp side of the hammer... much"

1) I will go with the UI. I know technical-oriented devs tend to underestimate this aspect (look at Dwarf Fortress - deepest game ever, but the UI is a mess! Every screen controls and behaves differently). Consistency, ergonomy, ease of use - this must improve (I have a separate thread on this) 2) Difficult choices with lasting effect. All drama and tragedy is based on hard choices - will you save your wife, or the kingdom? Will you support the nobles, and turn the burgers against you
This is a beta. Tactical maps are not even finished yet. Tactical AI is being added in two weeks. If you were being ironic, you need to make sure you use an emoticon or something so the rest of us can tell.
I don't know if you are familiar with the usual meaning of the term 'beta' (though it might be different in case of Stardock), but 'beta' refers to the phase of final testing when the product is feat

I see you have put a lot of effort into this. Okay, I won't elaborate on this, since they already have it set in stone anyway, building on some framework from EWOM. Brad probably considers this of secondary importance anyway.

I intend to expand this topic because I am not very satisfied with my experience. I think UI is very, very underestimated in general, and represents a significant portion of the entry level learning curve. Poor UI also adds to fatigue from prolonged playing sessions. iPhones killed everything when they launched - not because of some amazing technical innovation, but by streamlining the interface, removing every unnecessary element, every redundant click and menu. 1) Poor

I have a counter-proposal. Allow saving only when quitting the game, or save regularly, but reload loads only the last state. Whatever happens, happens, deal with it, or restart the game. This constant reloading kills gaming. To OP - try and force yourself not to reload. You will become a better player, and you will find out the games are more enjoyable too.

I have discovered a new branch of S-TN monitors from EIZO that claim good viewing angles and 10bit internal color depth (!), and 5ms GTG response time. They are rather pricey for TN, 22" EIZO S2202WHA-BK EcoView costs a but more than DELL 2311H. Did anyone see it in action?

26 Replies 134,274 Views

Okay, so my negotiations with Dell ended in with "accept U2311H or die!". True, they also offered 2211 and 2212, I think, but those are the same quality, but smaller. So I stand before a dilemma - retain my old 2209wa, even though it has the yellow line problem (and risk it will become permanent in time), or ask money back and try something else - but what? My latest candidate is Eizo 2335w, does anyone has a firsthand experience with it?

Speaking of that, I really loved the 'repel' feature in Dom3 combat, where longer weapons have an advantage over shorter weapons. The wielder of short weapon had to have enough courage and skill to get past the point of the long weapon to be able to attack at all. Hence, experienced and battle hardened swordsman will chop up a peasant spearman with ease, but give that sword to another peasant and he will be to scared to move against the spearpoint. Makes perfect sense. Oh noes
