As to games running "slowly" - any running application can create bottlenecks that may or may not concern a single particular component. For example, when running Dwarf Frortress, Graphics card is completely irrelevant, CPU is what matters, but because the game is not threaded, you will want a CPU with faster clock frequency and fewer cores. Arma 2, for example, has a huge texture pool and data is always streamed from memory to videocard memory, so the throughput of the videoc

... it's out on STEAM for 7Euro or so. I think it's rather good, I recommend it. Though it's not really a game... Can't say any more since it would be a spoiler. If you decide to play it, don't read too much about it.
Well, I genned a smaller world with 1050 years of history without problems. The game did not crash yet, but I've been playing only adventure mode so far. There are performance issues, though, sometimes the games stops while travelling and swaps data like crazy... for minutes. I managed to become a vampire by drinking vampire blood, it is quite fun.
This time it includes graphomanic necromancers that can revive not only slain combatans, but also their bodyparts - imagine, chopped of hands trying to strangle you, but also cow skins from nearby butcher shop, even llama hair are ominously crawling on on the ground! Example of a book: "Nasty Storage was a legendary toad leather-bound book. The written part consists of 31 pages short story entitled 'Nasty Storage' authored by Sodel Openediron. It concerns the stori
Why throw away money for overpriced boxes when I can (and do) build my own?
Wow, the attack on the good guys... ... the little problem is that Israel was stealing from US nuclear stockpiles long time ago: http://americanfreepress.net/?p=1876 And has a serious arsenal of nukes. Why is it okay for Israel to have nukes, and not okay for Iran? Israel has been committing atrocities against Palestinians in the Gaza strip for long time - retaliatory attacks against civilian buildings, violence
Pirates? What a cool idea. They sail along the river or the coast line and loot cities.... A new Heavenfall mod for FE?
Indeed, the game severely needs pirates - and zombies, robots and ninjae. These are the scientifically proven components of every successful game.
But... but... Consumer Protection Rights ARE getting updates. That's what all the SOPA, PIPA and ACTA are for. The obsolete Consumer Protection Rights are in the way of corporate profits. They must go.

The original post has one obvious fallacy. If you never accept people without experience, how the hell are they gonna get some? I know a lot of motivated, knowledgeable students, and I have met CEOs and senior executives who knew little besides internal intrigue, playing golf with the right people and stabbing their betters in the back. Oh yes, we need to rationalize and justify interns - we have a crisis, every free position has several candidates, so let'em work for free.
Okay, let me start. I hope it's at least GOTY material! Ambition and mediocrity often go hand in hand: ... Once upon a time, the kingdom of Tczizhma prospered, its subject happy and wealthy, roads safe, fields full of golden wheat and its history a happy tale of lasting peace. The crown prince Chrodosh was getting ready to marry his beloved, princess Ochechule from the neighboring kingdom, and the people looked forward to a glorious feast. However, the night bef
Damn, I can hardly wait, I admit I am counting the days to the release.
I remember sitting at an Oracle executive meeting, there was some presentation running, the sales were down, the numbers were not good, the room was thick with nervous anxiety, everyone's sweat masked by deodorants in the air... then suddenly, an intern busted in, handing the speaker a small piece of paper. The speaker excused himself, looked at the paper, and then proclaimed, voice trembling with suppressed anticipation: "Gentlemen, it's out. Meeting adjourned." Next moment,
I believe Steel Empire http://hol.abime.net/2116 It had a D&D flavored sequel Fantasy Empire: http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/825/Fantasy+Empires.html
I have to add a little old gem I have discovered recently - King of the Dragon Pass. A hybrid between tribe-management and gamebook-style decisions. Heavy emphasis on lore and story (countless events, decisions and disasters), no animation however, only static screens with (beautiful) artwork and text. Recently released for iOS.
I dislike how they removed the specific name for weapons (longsword, shortsword, morgenstern, etc.), and went with Infantry weapons III, the generic stuff kills the atmosphere. "My dead princess, the dastardly Duke of Ipswitch has challenged me to a duel. I will take my masterwork Infantry Weapon IV, inherited from father to son for generations in our family, and will show him what honor is worth."
Not wanting to spoil the fun, but the idea that a plate-armored combatant is a lumbering behemoth that is unable to move with speed, but can take direct hits with little effect is not quite correct (along with huge axes and swords weighing more than 5kg).
To original topic - there is way too much carried over from Elemental to my liking. Most of all, the flat, machine-like, unambigious design to everything - characters, events, gameplay mechanics. Why specializing on different profession when you can be everyhing - both steel-clad behemoth and casting machine of death. Why ponder over various weapons when one is always clearly best, since there are no significant cons and pros to them. Why think about city designs when the building placement h
Just a note to difference between IPS and TN - Dell 2209wa - having it returned for warranty, I had to fall back to my old Samsung 710T 17'' TN LCD I bought in 2004. The monitor has horrible backlight bleeding on the side, and the colors are not good (spatial dithering, apparently), but I tried to play my favorite Mount and Blade - With Fire and Sword, and I was amazed - suddenly, I was able to compete in twitchy swordfights with the best players on the server. The reaction times impr
Yeah, I read that review on prad.de, it was just about the only I could find. I suspect it's because the company is still Fujitsu-Siemens, so they will probably push their product on German market. I had FS Pocket Loox c550 (still have, but no longer use it), it was a nice piece of HW with beautiful display and good performance. Well, I will probably go with the Eizo, I suppose. Let's hope their reputation means they did not take the path of "budgetization" as Dell and other d
Be that as it may: Great picture above!!! Which one are you?!?
I am the guy on the right, or I was, since the picture is from 1996, I guess. The guy on the left is a guy who eventually hit me in the leg a year later, which resulted in a surgery and lasting problems with my knee. But we had our fun ;-) Here is the whole group a year later, I am the guy in yellow/blue with sword and dagger: <a href="http://www.volny.
So, my latest candidate is EIZO Foris FS2332. Pricey, as all Eizo monitors, but I hope it is worth it. The reviews are good, it's 8-bit.

As well as your type of connection.
I don't believe the test is run from their server, it must be client-side application running locally in your browser as an applet. Otherwise, it would have no sense, internet lag is usually huge, especially between continents. BTW new personal record, 196.6. I have discovered a neat trick - Don&
DrJBHL - I seriously considered ordering from Amazon, but the supplier stated he won't ship electronics outside of the USA, so I am out of luck (I live in Czech, Europe). I have finally decided to return my 2209WA (my warranty expires in March), because there is no saying when the problem becomes permanent. I should be able to get my money back, since 2209WA is sa
Seems like the equipment matters a lot. I tried at work where I have cheap, but fast TN monitor, and achieved an average of 204.7 out of 10. So the test is probably not too objective. It also signifies the importance of a good hardware for fast games.
