You worry too much, people. We are running out of resources, global oil production decline is coming around 2015 http://www.theoildrum.com/node/8797 fish are eaten, drinkable water will be in short supply soon too, and world's population is steadily growing. The jaws of the famous Malthusian trap (1. all people need to eat, 2. all people want to have babies) will soon bite off a sizable chunk of world's population, and we will return to numbers sustainable befor
I still play CoE2 sometimes. I think it's free now.
halsteadr - lucky you. I wanted to love WOM so much I ended up hating it with passion. The more I played it, the stronger it was. That's why I am so curious - I want to see what Derek's handwriting did with the game. I loved Fall from Heaven 2, I am still impressed by the game.
I still don't understand how they want to implement it. DNS is a distributed database. They cant force authoritative DNS to remove whole zones if they fall out of US jurisdiction, and if they force local US providers to make their DNS recursors to lie about zones, they will break existing standards like DNSSec.
Thank you for your detailed analysis. First of all, even though all 16:10 have the same aspect ration, scaling to lower resolution does bring problems, since on the scaled image the boundaries between pixels fall into the pixels, so color interpolation must be used, and that results in blurry/less legible image. When I am forced to use lower res on my 2209WA, I always use Aspect Ratio Scaling from my Preferences, so in case of 4:3 image, I get black bars on sides, but the image is not stretch
Once again I look at the damned U2311H... okay... I notice that when starting, my old 2209WA backlight is getting tired, it takes minutes before it comes to full brightness action, but then it SHINES! The U2311H,... okay, I could live with the colors... but ... left side - pinkish, right side muddy greenish... I want the head of those corner-cutters!!!
Of course, I also looked at HP ZR24W that looks promisin. - 8bit panel, excellent input lag of 8ms, manageable ghosting, good color uniformity and reproduction, but... a bit too high resolution. 1920x1200 seems a killer for my measly GeForce 560Ti. Also, since my warranty is covered by Dell, I fear I will have to pick one of their pieces - I don't know if the law forces them to return money if the product in warranty is no longer in production and customer is not satisfied with a
And right you were, sir! Tomorrow, I am in! Hooray! I promise to write very enthusiastic bug reports!
Thank you, I will consider it.
Thank you for your kind advices, I looked up the 2408WFP, and it has a staggering input lag of >60ms, which is a deal breaker for me. Also, I don't want to move up in resolution too much since that would mean investing in stronger video card also. 1680x1050 of 2209wa was just perfect for me, enough vertical space for working with text and terminals, games not too jaggy, good performance. I could go with 1920x1080 of most 16:9 23'' panels, but 1920x1200 is just too much.
It's the only think AI can do, in fact - it's called searching the tree of variations. It's how AI plays chess - because each position is a discrete node that can be evaluated with reasonable ease, chess AI with sufficiently strong CPU can nowadays beat the strongest humans. The problem is the evaluation function, though - in a game like FE, where units can move with relative freedom, each position can lead to many different resulting positions, and the complexity increase
Ah.. that would be beautiful... but it would mean too much change, I am afraid.
I am confused now. When I go to that purchase link for Fallen Enchantress, it says congratulations, you are eligible for free Fallen Enchantress. I have an email from Stardock informing me that I have been gifted the game from my friend (I did not have a Paypal account back then) from 26th October 2010. I am quite sure I downloaded and tried the game immediately, surely before 1 Nov. When I log to downloads.stardock.com, I have the game listed, but it is missing from my Order history.
I have a question for y'all self-taught experts in things shiny and coloful (lcd displays, not dwarven gems), so gather round and listen my sad story. In 2009, I saw that a pearl among the monitors is coming to the market - Dell 2209WA, a true 8-bit color e-IPS, with wunderbar colors, slightly larger input lag, I give you that, but otherwise an excellent panel. We lived happily since then, but recently, an ugly yellow vertical line of non-functional blue sub-pixels
Lord Xia - agreed. Fighting hand to hand was developed as a last resort discipline (after losing weapon), as a form of physical training and competetion (Greek Pancration), or in regimes that banned weapons from general populace (Japan). No kingdom, duchy or even a piddling village have ever fielded unarmed troops. A long wooden pointy stick is ridiculously cheap and always better than bare hands. In case of conscripted peasants, work tools like pitchforks, flails and scythes
Gandhialf, one of the challenges of 'freedom' in a pluralist democracy like the U.S. is that narrow business interests can have a disproportionate role in shaping public policy, especially when matters get technical or complicated. So-called intellectual property is a prime example of this. The IP establishment has had remarkable success in both extending the length of their rights far beyond what is reasonable and in diverting
Actually, fascism is a racial ideology so promoting corporate interests has nothing to do with it. I'd rather say that America is closer to becoming Ferengi. Which is much cooler. We need to elect our first Grand Nagus and we'll be on our way. Hmm...I'm trying to find a way to tie this into the topic, but failing.
Actually you are quite mistaken, sir. Racism is not
There is only one solution to your problem - you have to kill your flatmate before he kills you! Then you will have all the bandwidth for yourself, with all the FE goodness flowing to you with full speed!
narbytrout - of course, the period of "American freedom" is long gone, but unfortunately, some Americans failed to notice. There is a strong shift towards corporate oligo-fascism - the rich players buy politicians, whole parties and order customized laws to further their interests (laws like SOPA or PIPA and their disregard to civic rights and existing law norms clearly prove this). What is new in the recent development is that those laws no longer respect borders and sovereignty of o

I personally am not disappointed by the decision to cut multiplayer. I am more dissapointed by the modern trend to slap it onto games where it does not make much sense, like Mass Effect 3. Multiplayer development takes a lot of time and debugging, there is a lot hidden under the hood that might not be apparent. You must design a suitable (application) network protocol, you must consider security and integrity issues for the transmitted data, take care for all the error states that may happen
I thought this thread is about a solution to the current energy crisis...
IMO, it's true that media vultures can do a lot to the victim they choose (look what they are doing to Greece). But if it's true that the captain abandoned the ship prematurely and refused to take part in the rescue operations, and also if he made grossly incompetent and/or careless navigation decisions, he is probably guilty of some crime(s). Certain professions have responsibilities coming with them. Even if you are just a parent, negligent or careless behavio
Indeed, mighty fine work done, on those factions! I can see that hiring Derek pays his weight in gold in the design - FFH influences are both welcome and aparent. It's still a question of how it will play, but this looks promising.
