Looks awesome. PS. I am also a huge LotR fan. :D
Civ 4 combat system seems (at least to me) to be just as good as that found within all previous Civ games and all the Galciv games. Sure its not as interactive as say E:TW, but it works. It was certainly more advanced then measuring the two strengths of the army and killing the weakest.
Even this isn't true. The combat rolls are absolutely random. So if theres a unit with 6/6 stats, and 1 unit with 9/9 stats, it happens f
Quoting Baburnama, reply 16 Civ4 did very little for me. I don't like playing "history", and the game itself ran very poorly on my pretty decent rig - if I played significantly past 1000 A.D. the game started to run vvveerrryyy slllooowwww. I hope very much that Elemental is more akin to Alpha Centauri, my all time favorite game. My hopes are high. Did you try Civ 4 with the Beyond the
Ozu, I have no doubt (WHAT-SO-EVER) that a TOTAL LOTR mod will be made, probably BEFORE release..lol, of this game. No worries. And, apparently, the mod tools will be easy to use (To a point of course depending on how deep one delves).
Yeah, the only "problematic part" will be creating new models for the creatures. I think you gotta be an experienced 3d modeller + you need to have the appropriate software in or
Elemental will be a great success, but top 10? No freaking way. 2010 is looking to be full of some of the biggest heavy-hitting blockbusters of all time. Elemental could (and probably will) be top 10 quality, but not top 10 sales.
That is for sure. Turn based strategy games are not so popular [sadly...], compared to MMORPGs and FPS games.
Btw, I thought that the devs will release new in-game videos at PAX. Am I wrong? Also, can we get some more infos about the combat system? New screenies, perhaps a short video about it?
Awesome, finally some in-game footage. I must say, that this game will be on my HDD for a very long time, that is for sure. :D
Nice screenies! As I see, Brad must love Peter Jackson's LotR movies [who doesn't?! :)]....I mean take a look at the second screenshot. The Black Gate anyone? :D PS. Those yellow grass tiles on screenshot #1. are bugged. Some of them -for example- are "hanging" on trees. [Upper right corner of the image..] Yes it's an alpha version I know. :P
Well as I understand, it won't be easy to add new creature models, but hopefully some modders will be able to create decent models. Either way, it would be awesome if someone would create a Middle Earth/LotR mod. :)
It doesn't need to be that complicated to be enjoyable. Think of the total war series where all the combat math is attack rolls against defence rolls, with modifiers.
Complicated? It's not complicated, it's called tactical combat system. X unit is decent vs. Y unit, but it's not so good against Z. It's realistic & fun and not complicated. I hope you understand my point. Elemental will have
Just a side note: The vegetation looks very weird. [Trees etc.] Perhaps more/better textures could help or something. Anyone else agrees?
This isn't unique to this aspect of the game, but in topics covering many areas of the game, people are setting themselves up for some serious disappointment. Everyone seems to want their own particular interest area to be an incredibly deep and involved game in it's own right, and it's just not going to happen. Very true. I read one thread about how the game needs a complex espionage system to even be dec
Soft 75 looks the best so far. :)
Lot of questions, and no answers... Devs, please give us some answers![e digicons][/e] Thanks. :)
Personally, I prefer the more complex system with different types of damage and resists on weapons and armor. It forces (allows) the player to make choices.
Indeed, which is why I've made this topic. Systems like those are enchancing the tactical elements of the game greatly. One more question. What about resistances? Armors can have resistances? What about creatures [racial based resistances.]
Quoting BoogieBac, reply 2 We dont want to get into too fine of detail with battles since the war-game is only part of a much larger picture. How about boni for spearman against cavalry, cavalry against swordsmen etc. Is there anything like this planned for the tactical battles?
This is a good question also. :)
Weapons can have their base attack, attack speed, and any combination of enchantments (fire dmg, poision dmg, ice dmg, etc), and add in ranged options and the matrix of possibilities is actually really large. We dont want to get into too fine of detail with battles since the war-game is only part of a much larger picture.
Can we mod in new damage types?
Hey all. More and more informations are available about the game, this is fantastic. The game looks great so far, but I am a bit worried about the "simplicity" of the combat system. What I mean is this: We won't have various damage types like blunt, piercing, slashing etc. [& "defense" types, so that X armor should offer some protection against blunt dmg, while some other armor should offer more protection against piercing dmg for example...etc..] in Elemental if I am
Dear Brad....I am wondering about that picture what you drew. Units will only have weapon/armor/helmet slots? That is _NOT_ enough. What about slots / number of arms for example? Even a simple human should be able to hold a shield and a 1h weapon or a 2h weapon. What if a creature will have 4 or more arms? Also even if we are talking about normal soldiers, and not heroes, there should be an additional slot for leg armors...
There is already a thread or two actually on this topic already. You should hop in those.
..and which thread is that? I cannot find any informations about this, and the search function is not working perfectly I think.
Please, dear developers, reply. These should important informations. :)
Hello! I was wondering about the following: Do we have more physical damage types [and of course resistances also] in the game? Example: blunt/slashing/piercing
I belive I've read in the previews that there will be editors for units.
Could you post a link? I haven't seen any infos about this in the previews...
I am wondering that why the devs are "ignoring" some threads, while in some topics not one, but more devs are replying. :(
This should work like in MoM. The game shouldn't end when your wizard dies.
