Those trained units are just cannon fodder...you wont be getting too attached to them anyways, once tactical battles are in and creatures are mowing them down by the dozens.
We'll need higher incomes for that. ;) 1 fully armored "Knight" in 4 piece iron armor with iron sword runs about 115 iron and mine only gives out 1 per turn. Even mildly equiped guys can get expensive. Doesn't have to be balanced yet just more income so we can

I don't know if it's intentional are not but for some reason whenever my city reaches a new level it's population seems to drop. For example when a level 3 city hits 500 population and levels up to a level 4 city I check it's population and it's now in the high 400s. So where did the several dozen people go to? First time I noticed this happen my city also seem to upgrade my huts to houses on a low level city. So I thought maybe it was a loss due to the cap dropping then raising back

Sometimes when spliting a group of units up the units will suddenly teleport to other places on the map. This happens most often when the SOV is moved out of a group it seems. The units from what I can tell jump back to the original places they were when they joined the group. It's almost as if their own location data isn't getting updated as the stack moves around.

So far the Slums is the only building I've noticed this on but there could be others in the future. When you mouse over the building on the build mention and it list the cost of the building the last part the number of spaces it uses does show up because it would be outside the window. This really isn't a big deal but for later with more buildings likely to have increased building cost there is a pretty good chance that they will suffer from this same issue with items on their cost not being

When I moved onto an inn it said my quest log was full and I needed to finish the current quest even though as far as I knew I didn't have any. So I checked the Quest Log section and it listed 3 quest which I had failed at. They were resuce quest which I sent my SOV in alone and ended up getting killed by the Monsters that spawned there. Well the location disappears from the map but they stay in my quest log with no way to complete or remove as far as I can tell. [Suggestion]
My point was this. Seeing as the SOV is everyone's starting unit, has the ability to Level and get tougher and tougher, it seems a bloody waste of what may be, or obviously will be, your strongest battlefield asset by sticking his pompous and illiterate Ass in a city just to gain his "Best of the Bunch" trump all traits, when a hand picked, by the SOV him/herself even, Govener (or 2) could do the same task, thus freeing up that SOV

I don't really like how they handle food and population too. Using food to support housing is kinda lame as you could have a ton of empty houses that are using up food?!? That doesn't make any sense. Also R&D increases the amount of people that can fit into a house so you magically get more people for less food? Does housing tech included a diet program? Must be cause their getting thinner they can fit more people in the same space hehe. I do like the global aspect of food though

Whenever a city upgrades for some reason some or all of the Houses/Villas shift down and left on the map graphically. They still take up the same location they were before but the game draws their images off center for some reason. Here is a picture and you'll notice in Captial on the right side several of them are out of place along with several in Mountain City near the farms. Along with others in Swamp Land. <img src="http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/7244/elemental1271200
Armies start with a few people and late game with some thousands (how many exactly yet to see).
I researched late into the Tech tree in one game and the Highest I've seen is a Legion which uses 1000 pop and cost about 1000x that of an individual unit. I'm guessing it doesn't go much higher considering that's the population a level 5 city requires. The hard part is getting the resources to equip 1000 troops.

I think the main reason the % buildings are considered to be bad investments are because you can build so many of the other building types. In a lot of games you can only build 1 of each building so buildings that give % increases are nice for those looking to really specialize the city. As someone else has already pointed out with enough of the proper buildings the % increase buildings are actually worth it. I often try to specialize me cities in the games I play. So far in the beta

When you build these units they cost as much as several individual units so it seems like you should be getting a decent fighting force. But instead you seem to only get a standard unit. The unit has a number on it's icon but otherwise it's stats are the same. In combat they seem to do slightly more damage but they die just as fast as an individual unit after 10 HP.

Here is one of my many setups thus far to show my point. You can move from the farms in the south directly into Mountain City. Then move out appearing in the space next to the Palace in Capital City. And from there you can enter Swamp land or Capital City. Once in those cities you can exit on their far ends without any problems. All this on a unit which may only have 1

If you destroy a building such as a lumberyard, iron mine, wheat farm, or etc. Then the resource that was originally there is gone. This is annoying if your trying to temporarly free up some space. Though I imagine when the ability to destroy enemy buildings comes into play it will be an even more annoying bug.

If you hold down the mouse button to move the main map around and happen to mouse over the mini-map then it will grab the mini-map and start moving it around instead. This is a bit annoying as you don't re-click you simply are moving around the map and happen to move the cursor over the mini-map. I'm guesses there is no "on-click" check to begin dragging the mini-map and only a if mouse is pressed then drag. ;)
Something even more frustrating is when a Unit cannot "escape" a city. It really pisses me off
Yea that is very annoying. I've discover that sometimes it's because the unit doesn't have enough movement. Other times it is the same graphic glitch as this. The unit actually did leave but it just shows them over the city. It's often best to move them out of the city by moving to a spot right next to the city rather then trying to order

There are 2 different times when this happens. 1) Whenever you load a game unless you can currently see the mountains then they don't show up even if it's an area you've explored before. They appear again if you move a unit over to the area to reveal the fog of war. 2) If you use the terrain modifying spells on a mountain graphic that covers multiple squares the whole thing disappears graphically even though some of those tiles are still mountains and impassible it shows as fl

It seems your use to the big studio's "near release betas". Where the game is mostly polished and very close to release. Well bad news is if your were expecting a fully built game that you could "play" then yep your likely to be disappointed. I'm a recent Programming graduate and one thing my Professors constantly mentioned was that different development studios have different definitions of beta and when something goes from being Alpha to Beta. They did seem rather consistent on the

If you send a Pioneer to resource you have already built on you can build another building there and get more resoures. You can only seem to select the building on top and it may only show your getting +0.5 Metal from the mine but your total metal income maybe something like +2.0 from being 4 mines there. The color of the building on the map gets darker with each additional building you put down also. [Suggestion] While on the topic though I figured I'd mention the balance iss

Actually I was never overly found of the local economics in a lot of games. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge Civ fan but it always bugged me that I couldn't setup bread belt cites to feed large capital or production center cities. This doesn't even make that much sense on the medieval scale as large cities were often supported by near by farming villages. As technology improved the distance between resources and the cities that use them continued to grow because of faster transportation

Well the game already has one building that is unique, the Palace, so it's no like they couldn't add more. The question is would they be unique to just your empire or the world? As that might require a bit of code change to have it check all empire's cities so that only 1 empire can build it. Plus it seems to register buildings as being in the world once they start construction so you can't queue up more then your suppose to which means it would simply be a matter of who manages to start the
