I tried Epic the other night but I found that production was far too fast compared to my research. I ended up quitting after a couple hours because every city had every upgrade possible and still plenty of turns remaining between new research being completed. They really need to change this because it just makes Epic pacing pointless at the moment.

This just happened to me on Map 3. It actually happened after I reloaded due to the Chapter 9 bug where there aren't 3 villages to liberate. Now I have 3 sets of each hero.... Would love a dev response on this. I really, really don't want to have to re-start the campaign. There is nothing wrong with having building cities be an important part of a TBS game. However, I personally feel that too often games make the importance of doing that outweigh the importance of other features in the game (i.e. research - per your example).
