No, editing files and then putting them in the mods folder doesn't work correctly unless they have changed how it works. A lot of different things wont function the right way and other things will be duplicated, etc. You can edit the files straight from the core directory. I don't know why you are having trouble with it. I have edited several core files, including adding armor to all militia units and it works fine.

I am confused. You are editing core files and it isn't working ? I have edited several core files and everything is working fine for me in game. No problems with trees either. Also, don't need to use the localdataonly command.

I tried a new game and just used relias and altar rather than a custom sov and I was able to cast dispel enchantment on my city but it was within the first 50 turns or so. Perhaps since my other game is later and there are lots of towns and soldiers and such, a lot of memory is being used so it is getting messed up or something. An enemy AI cast three curse spells (I think) on my city. I don't know for sure because there appears to be no icon in my city list showing any curses cast on the city but I saw the spell when it was cast. I remember in previous versions, the city info screen showed curses which had been cast on the city. I only knew there were curses on my city because I saw the spell animation and when i go to city menu, it has a -1 initiative and -1 hp modifier on it so I know it is cursed but there is

Don't know if anyone else has this problem but I am on turn 194 now. Hit the end button and the end button blacks out and it doesn't go to the next turn. Just sits there on turn 194. Then if i keep trying to do stuff, the game freezes then crashes. Like if I hit any menu buttons or try to build a building, etc.

True, true. I can pretty much do all the modding in the XML that would be needed for it but I can't make graphics and such so I wouldn't be able to do the mod myself. Would need people to make new graphics and all that.

Yes, there is the world within that iron tower (or was it steel) of those two weird races. I suppose that is a different reality. You do have the dreamworld and then there is the portal stones that could potentially send you to an alternate reality but that isn't important to have. Those things aren't really prominent. The dreamworld sort of is but it isn't necessary for a mod.
